Creating a website to lookup item boosts

Hey guys

I thought about creating a site, where you can lookup an item and it will display the item's full stats, like when you join a BG or arena.
If you for instance get Blackened Defias Leggings - Item - World of Warcraft at level 29, it will boost up to 11/11 instead of 7/7.

Since there are no websites out there to check this, I thought.. Why not create one? However, how would I check these? I could ask around and get answers from people, or I could get a lot of items, enter an arena, and then add them manually myself?

What do you guys think? By checking the items on my website, you can easily go find BiS for each class.

Thanks

How does this help for other levels?

Well, although this list only covers items accessible for level 20s, it does demonstrate that you could do it simpler than adding all the stats to an external website. Just make a thread and ask people to submit their findings using the addon that already exists.

I understand what you are after, it's something I wanted to do too. It would be a massive undertaking...

Basically there isn't a confirmed formula for how gear scales (at least from what I saw a few months ago) Lots of top players were trying to crack it... it has to do with item level and quality of item, etc but no one has figured it out.

There used to be a limit to how high an item scales but I think that's gone. I've heard Shadowfang is pretty decent for the lvl 60s... which is insane.

So basically if you wanted to do this you would have to have every item available in every bracket and pull the stats...

According to the quite extensive work that has been done for the 90-99 Bracket on the Official Forums (both NA and EU) item quality means absolutely nothing, a Green scales identically as a Legendary. One of the MANY threads is >HERE<. The trickier bit is that not all items with procs actually scale (yey for Blizzard not having a quality control team). Actual Level of the item also is a tad off. One Player found that the AB Boots with the speed boost scale differently based on Level, even in the same Bracket (which they shouldn't, they should all scale exactly the same). This is why nobody has an exact formula for scaling, Blizzard hasn't bothered to use one imho. I have more evidence that Blizzard's scaling is still screwed on Level tiered items like Embossments, but I won't get into that as it might cause them to actually do something about it and "fix" it, thus messing with my own Twinks.

TL;DR: Blizzard has no quality control team, everything is supposed to scale the same but not everything even scales at all.

I am sure if there was a simple formula WoWhead would have already have added a slider.
Good luck though.

You have to realize, when it comes to QC I am sure that Blizzard checks the relevant items. They have 7million users looking at 1000's and 1000's of items on a hundred different levels. There is no telling how many man hours it would take to find each and every issue with each and every item at each and every level. And then when you do find that that issue you have to turn it over to another department to have them figure how to fix it. Then that department has request funds if it is not within the budget. And so on... Understand the challenges now? You don't just flip a switch, and bam problem solved.

If it was based 100% on a static formula then they would all scale correctly for every single level. Those few that bugged out at that point could easily be bug reported and fixed.

EDIT: Also, some of the 25+ page Threads on the Official Forums have been up since November and those items still don't work properly in BG's.

EDIT2: Am I making wild generalizations about Blizzard's lack of care for the game, sure I am. I've been playing since TBC and there's a ton of things that get reported repeatedly on PTR and still make it to Live, imbalances go on for months or years, broken "invisible walls" allowing Players to get past the starting gates in BG's that have been known for YEARS, etc. That is why I say Blizzard has no quality control team.

Not that I dont want this, but I want to say GL finding the correct algorythm, as there is items with the same item level and the same item type and yet they scale differently.

Please show me some of these items.
Flying Tiger Goggles - Item - World of Warcraft
Cape of the Brotherhood - Item - World of Warcraft

Two items, same ilvl. Yet they scale differently.
Goggles from 4/4 to 9/9 a 5/5 difference. 10 points.
Cape from 5/3 to 8/5 a 3/2 difference. 5 points.
Those are just 1st matching ilvls on the scaling index list.

To me, this is what makes twinking FUN. Like the days of yore. Finding the best pieces of gear that sync best together. Min/maxing your toon.

You can't use two different item slots as a direct comparison as Helm and Cloak don't have the same stat itemization on them. Shamatix has a much better comparison as it's the same iLvL of the same Armor/Weapon slot (Chest).

You can't compare different slots and cloth/leather/mail/plate either. That's what I heard from my StackExchange question at least: world of warcraft - Figuring out algorithm/formula for item scaling in WoW - Arqade

For example this cloak Fallen Apprentice's Robe - Item - World of Warcraft in the 20-29 bracket scales 13-13 and there is for example Airfield Defender's Garb - Item - World of Warcraft and this doesnt go 13/13

These don't scale to the same stats? For real? Then how on earth do they calculate it? Please don't tell me they went into each item and gave them their upgrades individually....

Sure you can. You get simular results with heirlooms. There could be an analytical stat to stat formula weighed upon item ilvl and the stat weight. And the actual item itself. The data has no idea if that item is a trinket, a helm, a chest etc. The data just follows the numbers inputed.

If I was you I would read up on how the guy back then on mmo-c figured the challengemode caluclations out, but I think its complete random in all honesty.

It's not that difficult, low item level pieces with high stats are basically the best. Ofcourse procs don't scale the same and there could still be some extreme procs out there.

Remember that it's about the item level, not the required level, which is why you might say that the quality matters, since epic items sometimes get a out of proportional high item level, which in the end, make it scale worse than for example a rare on the same required level. This is why level 60/70 raiding gear scales kind of bad.

The lack of items that have stats but also have affixes in these topics suprise me, certainly they scale the best because they have crazy amounts of stats on low item level. Dark Iron Ring for example.
