You mean theory?certain scientific truths such as, say, evolution
You mean theory?
I'm all for embracing, and being proud of one's culture or religion, but when it physically prevents your team from functioning at its best, it makes things really difficult for everyone.
For example, the whole Spanish speaking thing mentioned earlier in the thread, it inhibits communication. English is the language of the world, whether you like it or not. Even Chinese children on the other side of planet are taught how to speak and write it, in addition to their own language.
I'm not saying Spanish is a bad language or that Spanish speaking players are bad, but when you purposely use a language that is not English in a predominately English speaking setting (like a standard BG) you are failing to communicate with the majority of your team from the get go, AND that does make you bad for the group.
I mean seriously, its like speaking with that dwarven language filter on, when 90% of the raid group consists of night elves.
Agreed, communication is key, lack of this is imminent failure, but just because everyone should (i'm completely aware that english is the world's language) doesn't mean everyone can, besides Chile (education is very high end in this country) education in Latin America is very low, most of the people just make between the 6-9 school grade, that means they barely learn their own language (written of course), now imagine trying to learn another, also you have to consider that bg's may be the only times these people get to have contact with English. You are right when you say that everyone should speak English, but is not mandatory if someone is put in an environment against it's will, i blame blizzard for this mess.I'm all for embracing, and being proud of one's culture or religion, but when it physically prevents your team from functioning at its best, it makes things really difficult for everyone.

i really like that phrase, as you see i'm communicating with you, on my own effort, i did not go to school here in the US, but all the English i learned is because i wanted to speak it since i was a child, but is a personal thing, that makes me able to understand both languages, irl and in-game, i encourage you to learn Spanish too, you have nothing to lose, but a lot to gain.I think it's a little ridiculous to expect everyone to speak English and to not be willing to learn any other language. Especially considering the fact that you cannot alter anyone else's ability to communicate, you can only alter yourself. Ppl can either learn enough Spanish/portuguese/whatever to communicate in a bg, or ppl can whine about being unable to communicate. Out of those 2 options, complaining on an English language forum is the least likely to achieve results.
The idea that English is the predominant language has made English speakers very small minded in matters of communication with other languages. It's not a matter of "someone else should accomodate to suit me" it's a matter of everyone making their best effort to achieve communication in a bg. If that means copying a few phrases from google translate to a macro, then so be it.
Or we could all just talk about how those ppl should have studied English.
if Earl wanna make racist jokes, he better learn from Larry the Cable Guy, Carlos Mencia, Katt Williams & George Lopez, i like them..... and i apologize if i nerdraged, but i lose my nerves around racist stuff, unless is funny , and i thought the dude was talking literally.Just get the global translator chatbot addy from curse. It adds copy/paste functionality and everything.
Oh wait I just made that up. >.<
One thing I've found useful is to just know all your emotes and use them creatively to communicate simple thoughts. I wouldn't mind learning more languages but my school load is a little swamped right now.
Xatruch makes the best point so far though that the resources for a competitive community just aren't there in many languages.
also, Xatruch--- I think Earl was making fun of Americans in the old comedic tradition of impressions. It was a crass, troll remark to make, but I think you're going a little extreme.
Earl-- you deserve a spanking.
I find it rather funny that most of us refuse to learn spanish and yet blame people for being to lazy to learn english. This is actually a great opportunity to learn another language. Most people in the Netherlands speak english before the age of 8 because most of the games and movies are in english. Try having abit more of an open mind and don't expect people to be better then you are.
And if you are to lazy for that make a few basic macros with things that you say often translated to spanish. Because screaming "learn english" at somebody's face probably wont help them that much.
Although I have to admit most of the Quel'Thalas players aren't that great compared to your average US player (which isn't setting the bar high.)
Lo estudié por ocho años y viví en una país hispanohablante por dos meses. No es perfecto, aún estoy aprendiendo (lo mas difícil para mi son los palabras sobre videojuegos, "gear" "stats" ect.i really like that phrase, as you see i'm communicating with you, on my own effort, i did not go to school here in the US, but all the English i learned is because i wanted to speak it since i was a child, but is a personal thing, that makes me able to understand both languages, irl and in-game, i encourage you to learn Spanish too, you have nothing to lose, but a lot to gain.
*Portuguese. You call that annoying? I'm on a Brazilian server by accident and I don't speak Brazilian.

Join forces with me Tim. Together we will force America and the rest of the world to learn Dutch instead of us learning English...Atleast that's how people talk in this thread. Why should Spanish speaking people learn English if we won't learn Spanish?
For two months you went to a spanish country to study. Your spanish is not perfect, you are still learning. Most difficult for you are game words. Saying a certain sentence usually works. The sentence is something like ''go kill the person .... bandit".....probably meaning kill efc.
I never learned spanish but it actually doesn't seem that hard to read when you speak french.
