Hey friends!

I promised myself this year that I'd start generating content and create a youtube channel.

I uploaded my first video today and Im having some trouble with the quality. Everything looks good when I watch the video file on my computer. But if I watch the video on youtube, the video hangs like crazy! You can see it within the first 20 seconds. Twice. Badly.

What did I do wrong? I've never created or uploaded video before, so I don't even know where to start checking.

Edit: interestingly, this only seems to happen on my desktop. The video works fine on my tablet and phone. Maybe its just my computer? But would someone do me a solid and let me know if the video hanging for them? If its just me, I wanna know.

Surprisingly high quality for a first video. No offence, but as with everyone's first video I was expecting something along the lines of shit mic, low quality, dumb music and pointless contents, but everything was on it's place. Intro is short and visually pleasing, video quality is top notch, commentary > montage is a good direction and content is something people would watch. 10/10 would continue watching. In fact, I just subbed.

Was your 2nd sub so I hope for hugs and cookies

The only thing I'd change is the title - maybe reformat it a little? The 'comma ep 1' just looks out of place, but maybe that's my personal preference.


Also, the video doesn't do any weird skips for me as well. All's good. Often when I was editing my footage it'd be a pain to watch because it would keep freezing but all would be fine once it rendered. Caused me some pain because I had to render blind and hope the final effect is decent.

Nice intro, the video looks good, it did not lag for me at all. Its lovely to see some doing these kind of videos, and know there are some F2Ps out there still making videos. I hope to see more of this and some PvP!, Love it and Keep it up. I also wanna start making PvP videos again, duels, arenas, and bgs and yea you have new a subscriber! :D
 
Part 2 is really good. Have you made many youtube videos? It seems like you know what your doing. Great info for anyone starting with the current patch and a nice heads up for those who haven't geared up yet.

I haven't, actually. These are my first. But i have watched alot from content creators and just thought "i like that, i don't like this" and just tried to emulate what works.

I'm stoked that yall are enjoying them. I really like making them.
 
If you have an Nvidia graphics card OBS > Shadowplay > Fraps. I can play games at 2560x1440@60fps while recording 2560x1440@60fps with it, while Fraps gives me video that stutters and kills my frame-rate in game, and Shadowplay won't even record. Bear in mind though that if you upload to youtube at a high quality, it can take some time to process after you publish it before the full quality is available (my 1080@60 videos usually take about 5 minutes to be available at anything other than 360p).

Try not to say um and er so much. You don't need to fill space to keep someone else from talking over you like you would in a regular conversation, so you don't need to be afraid of having sections of your video when you're taking a pause from talking (although a lot of other youtubers would be better if they just got to the fricking point instead of waffling. I hate it when I'm 10 minutes in and they haven't got round to covering what was in the title).

Your opening titles are good and short. Too many youtubers have them far too long, so in some cases they make up as much as 25% of the video. You might want to get some kind of audio to go along with them though, just to have something more recognizable.

You can make use of editing and rehearsal to cut together separate, flawed takes of audio into a final product, or just mute the ums and ers, and you can always use your out-takes for comedic value at the end of your videos. Take a look at theyamiks' videos for Elite Dangerous. No need to be that crude though. ED is just a really infuriating game so his style works for that community. A lot of the videos I watch where people are actually on camera while talking, they do a lot of cutting.

Don't worry though. Everyone gets better with practice, and there are plenty of really popular youtubers who started out at a much lower level than you have.

I appreciate the feedback. Ill be real honest though, ive "um'ed" my way through my whole life. I doubt its ever gonna get better at this point. But ill try.

And ive considered being on cam for the videos. I wasnt sure if this was something people liked or were used to. I might give it a whirl in other videos. Sadly, i have a face made for radio so it may not be too welcome lol.
 
I concur with a lot of the feedback here. This makes for a great first vid -- good speech cadence, solid video quality, and well organized content. Things work so well, that it makes this point stand out all the more:

As someone who used to um/er/uhhh a lot, please know that this is a skill we can learn. It takes practice to use silence instead of utterances to transition between sentences, but learning this skill is so worth it. Chops, you're already well on your way to delivering polished content. This is the one weak point, and I think you'll be happy to find it's not too difficult to resolve in time.

I'm looking forward to your next episode!

I'll be working on it. My editing skills aint finessed enough to mute/edit them out. So I'll just be a bit more patient with extra takes.

Keep up the work, video = history being recorded. It's one of the reasons why palls channel is so valuable.
