Wholesome Shoutout Thread

Hey y'all, I thought it'd be a cool idea to make a thread where you can shout out someone who's influenced you positively in twinking or somebody that you think, whether past or present, has done really positive things for their bracket or fellow players or who's just been a genuinely cool person and deserves recognition for it. Feel free to share a story etc as well.

ill go first.

I've been playing on and off since classic but mostly picked the game up in WoD, and I got into twinking during legion. I always wanted to learn how to heal, support roles in games have always appealed to me.

In my old guild there was a really good healer in the 20s bracket that some might remember named Lilnova, who played priest. I was running a ret pally at the time.

We wound up getting close through running premades and eventually she convinced me to get over my anxiety and just give healing a try, and so I made my first priest. She coached me through everything from addons to rotation and tips and tricks, and she was an amazing teacher. we were in that guild for years, and I stayed with twinking all this time even after the guild ended because of her and other guildies and friends showing me just how much fun you could have with the right environment. no toxicity, no drama, just a bunch of friends shooting shit in discord and progressing in a healthy way and having fun as a team.

even though she doesn't play anymore I wanted to shout out Lilnova and thank her for being a dope healer and a great friend and teacher.

Shout-out to the 5-8 horde hunters every game who made me stop queueing BGs :FrogeConcern:

Shout out to the twink mod-makers who impacted hundreds of twinks over the years, and in some cases, countless players beyond.

Meed, who made a game stats tracker in Wrath to help 29s balance games.
Kiendro and Lailu, makers of the 49 Qlist in Cataclysm that was so successful, Qlist eventually helped revive 29s and 39s for Cata.
Yasueh, who created the F2Paddon in Cataclysm that empowered multiple servers to foster the original US F2P communities on Aerie Peak, Vashj, and Korgath, plus others in the EU, and supported the addon for multiple expansions.
Aelobin, creator of MogIt, the single greatest transmog addon for WoW that eventually got absorbed and extended into the WoW interface.

I must have missed a few people; these stand out in my mind as game-defining contributors that changed the course of twinking history. Twinks do a tremendous job at reimagining and repurposing what's possible in the game. The people above? They went beyond the game and brought back capabilities that helped make twinking what it is today. For as fractious as twinking can get, the dedication of these mod makers made things possible for us that we may have otherwise never experienced.

In no particular order...

@CigNus : Dude showed up on the scene, dove in like a maniac and has been churning out top quality content for a year now. His "How Do I Get That?" series is simply one of the most valuable resources for new tinkers and combines incredible knowledge with a solid sense of humor and quality editing. Theres gotta be dozens of new twinks in the bracket who all started because they saw a Cignus video. Thats huge! Also, gonna finally get my xpoff coffee mug because of him.

@Ivo : The twink database rules. That's really all there is to it. It's a resource I turn to over and over again and can point new and experienced twinks to whenever they have questions regarding gear. Its invaluable to the community and ranks as one of the great contributions to twinking in my tenure here.

@Andre : His relentless farming (combined with considerable RNG luck) and serious alt-itis have allowed us to test a wide variety of gear builds across a huge number of specs. We simply wouldnt have the collective verifiable knowledge that we do without him killing more kobolds than should be legal. And the TF banks would be a goddamned disaster without him. And on a personal note, his calm demeanor and humor have kept me sane through some of the worst grinds in my twinking career.

@ohti : Despite not even playing 20s anymore, has still steered TF to continued greatness even as I retreated from vets to concentrate on my F2P. There are very few people for whom "wise beyond their years" actually applies but he's one of them. He's taken the time to not just help steer the guild but also this site and the effort he puts in to both is a huge value to our little community, no matter how much he protests that he hates twinks.

@Kirise : The homie. Returned to active twinking after much pleading and has selflessly thrown himself into help anyone with anything. Want a healer for arenas? He's there. Need a farming buddy? Call Rise. Dungeons? Rise. Wanna shoot the shit while youre on a grind? Rise has got you there too. Also cant be understated that he started twinking again and then managed to drag a whole bunch of old 39s and 29s back into it as well. The bands getting back together and we have Rise to thank for that.
