Which class for healer?

I was thinking about making a healer for level 20 PVP and wanted to get some opinions on what class to pick. This is going to be an alliance character, mainly for BGs as I currently have no interest in arenas (if we can even participate in arenas). I was curious as to what you all think about which class/race is the best in regards to healing capability, survivability, mobility, and any other factors I should be considering when making a healer.

FoM is resto shammy rocking the quest eyepatch or the nice quest shield. Priest and Healadin remain strong. I have not seen any evidence of druids being good healers at this level. Frankly play whatever you will enjoy. I think priest is da best in organized groups, h-pally when solo pugging, and r-shammy on FC escort duty.

If ur playing on a eu server, I would pick a priest because it is one of the less played healer classes altough they are so useful for the group.

Their shields saved my ass so often when carrying the flag with my holydin and the stamina buff is also awesome.

I'm also thinking about making a gnome priest for carrying the flag. Escape Artist might be quite handy for that.

Holy paladins survive forever. With Protector of the Innocent, I can stand there and spam heal a DPS while being attacked myself, and neither of us will die. Sure, with enough focus I'll go down, but I can last a very long time.

While I haven't played a shaman myself, I have seen them in action and they are just as good, if not better. Earthshield is incredible, and earthbind totem is HUGE in BGs. Not to mention Healing Surge is very powerful, very fast, and (as far as i know) inexpesive.

As a priest, Bubbles are really strong in this bracket too. AoE Fear is great, especially on such a short CD. I have seen quite a few Healers go Shadow Spec for Mind Flay, as the speed reduction is awesome for BGs. Plus fort is always a big help.

For druids, I can't say much here. I haven't seen many resto druids, and the only things I can think of as beneficial are travel form for running flags, roots to stop EFC, and HoTs for on the go healing. But if you are going to be running flags you should go feral for survivability, and I'm not sure how effective HoTs are in BGs because of all the burst.

In the end, go with what you think will be fun. Each class brings plenty to the table, so it's all what you will like to play the most.

Allow me to clear a couple things up. First, this character will be on the Aerie Peak server. Second,

Well, I've never played a healer before. Ever. The closest thing I've ever come to it was an elemental shaman and I would throw a heal every once in a while. That was during the TM/SS & XR days before BGs were even an idea in someone's head. So I have absolutely 0 idea how any class plays as a healer. Don't know the strengths or weaknesses and I haven't played WoW for 2-1/2 years, so I'm not even current on anything.

Which is why I've come here to get some opinions. I'm going to learn from the ground up on this character and just want to get some ideas so I can make a more informed decision. And thank you all for sharing your opinions so far and any further opinions & insights would be much appreciated.

well, paladin is pretty idiot proof if you want to level one to get the hang of it.

priest is fairly easy to use but has a high skillcap.

shaman is probably one of the harder ones to use

druid would spend more time in the graveyard then actually healing stuff, in most cases.

Lol what's with all the Druid hate? I certainly don't "spend more time in the graveyard then actually healing stuff" by any stretch. I may not get the big numbers of Shams or Pallies but in all honesty, with the added mobility, I tend to live longer. I'd even go so far as to say there is a higher skillcap, since you can't just sit there and spam heals, it actually FORCES you to be mobile and learn to kite. Play what you like but don't walk away with the notion Droods are bad healers.

Well beef, don't hate so hard, me and you are like 2 of the 3 rdruids in the whole bracket. Not surprising people don't have any idea how it plays when there aren't any

Clearly a skilled player can make a spec work - but the inherent class attributes are under discussion not skill cap.

Frankly I see resto doodad as you illustrate - weaker healers with better mobility. The lady doth protest too much metinks.

ive played resto flag carrier in the 19 bracket, and after the cata talent changes, druids are still "viable" but if a hunter even decides to look at you funny, your dead. swiftmend will save you for another 3 seconds.

Unless I get absolutely jumped I can usually keep myself alive long enough for help/peels, and if something crits im gonna put out some damage and maybe even get the kill on a unsuspecting hunter

My computer cannot handle fraps or anything like that. A good hunter will win every time, but not every hunter is a good hunter. Fair enough? Lets say a regrowth crits early and the hunter, being overzealous pushed close to me in case I tried to run, I rejuv and move into melee range and throw dots up and keep em up, thorns and the s key handle things. You don't have the raw healing output but you're not a wet kitten either

Shamans are fairly easy, I can stay alive and keep others around me up for a while.

Just try not to get your heal canceled

I play a Discipline Priest, and it's a lot of fun
<
I have pretty good survivability, and I'm not helpless one on one, because I can do some pretty schweet damage too.

That being said, a skilled Resto Shaman is the bane of my existence with their purges and earthbind totems. Holy Paladins are viable too. Like the people posting before me, I haven't seen many Resto Druids so I dunno how they'd work out in this bracket. Have fun healing
