I've been wondering for a while how people mainly judge the skill of other people, there are a few ways to judge someones "skill" this thread will direct to two categories.

Mechanical skill: A player with above average correct use of global, uses cooldowns correctly. Knowing where to position in team fights. Able to perform jumps around the map. Able to 1v1 same classes in mirrors.

Knowledge/Awareness: Someone who has vast knowledge of the game, able to number crunch knows the map like the back of their hand. Knows every class inside out, knows the best spots where to fight and where not to fight. Moves around the map correctly, can predict what enemies will do.

Now not to say some players don't possess traits in both of these categories safe to say most of us do, how ever there are some people who stick out in a certain category for me.

For example, fearthebuns/hunnybuns/moneybuns, he is a man of many buns but, when i think about knowledge of this game and awareness hands down he comes first in my mind. Having of watched his stream specifically when i first came to this bracket, he introduced new ideas to me i had never even thought of before. He has helped me learn the map how to move around it when to do things in certain situations, props to everything he does good guy.

Now when i think of mechanically inclined players, at least from a druid pov. My mind goes to yowza, have only played with him a few times. How ever he stands above the other druids form me in terms of maximizing damage in middle, correct global usage and awareness in mid.

Please vote for what you deem to be the most important trait in players and leave your favorite player from each category!

Nice thread, im not very good mechanically but i like to think ik the game and every single class really well. I think that helps most overall.

I feel like I have mid level of both, which is fine for pugs. I do feel like I've lost track a bit, by not having premaded in like 3 years.

snug I like you and even though we only played a small number of games together (20-29) I was able to see you are a special player

Mechanically good cuz u can know the whole map and position of every team mate but in the end wow leans towards a slower FPS game like its other substitutes "Call of Duty".

Thus knowing the correct rotation to max out dps or gain advantage trumps all other aspects.

Now lets presume that you have a thorough understanding of where every enemy player is. What you dont know is what tricks he has up his sleeve, is he a pretty good player or perhaps a noob?

Mechanical skill will show you how to CC escape get flag etc. Knowing the map is a perk and heavily relied upon but it's also taught when honing an individuals mechanical skill.

@snug Another quality, that I think very few in the bracket have mastered, is leadership. We all know that @Pizza is one, if not the best team leader in the 19 bracket. Mechanical skill, awareness, and leadership (being able to direct who/where/when) is a quality that few have mastered.

I think on a 10 man team, it is important to have a variety of these players. For teams that are a one trick pony, will easily be overtaken if the opposing team counters their play-style. Its good to know how to play mechanics in mid to maximize damage, but when teams are playing "out side the box", is when the awareness players come in. Noticing the sneaks on the out side, or the sandwich with 5man in front 5 man behind us plays. Then the leaders play their part in a situation where there comes a fork in the road, of what strategy a team should apply to the situation, the person with the skill of leadership will direct the team to what the most effective play is. All 3 off these are highly important on a team.

I guess there are a few hidden qualities like,
-Stamina: being able to not give up when fighting a losing battle, hoping that you can make a cheeky play and pull out the game.
-Heart: The guy that will always calm down the team, pep talk them out of a rut, or convince them that they can win.
-Analyzers: A 3-0 win is not good enough for these guys, they pick apart every mistake because they want their team to be as close to perfect as they can get.
-The Dreamer- Always trying out weird comps, strats, specs, to try to give their team the edge.

Tried that when Multistrike first came came out. It can be pretty fun, especially with Ele Force. Had some decent duels, but it left too much to chance.

I use it as an rng based substitute to chain lightning, but It can be pretty fun.

Obviously it's a mix of both? If they're mechanically skilled but their awareness/positioning sucks they're basically useless to the team, and vice versa

A mix of both is important. I do however weigh general game knowledge and awareness a little higher, since this is where objective players can really stand out. There is not a lot of mechanical plays to be made at level 19. Your toolkit is very limited. This also depends on the class. Some classes have more buttons than others, and allows them to stand out more as well.
