The poll is a no-brainer. Hey guys, what's better - being good at this thing, being good at this other thing or being good at both? 8)

I don't think the answer is that straightforward. Hobbes did a good job describing why mechanical skill makes a greater impact, but I think that's limited to more PuG play. Premades rely more heavily on teamwork, and Phobia's reply did a phenomenal job talking about some of the ways teamwork elevates individual skills.

A couple of years ago, I helped coach a guild's RPG team of new PvPers to 1800 over the course of a season. Skills ranged from 2400 arena players to "I liek killin ppl" casuals. To make it top 10% by the end of the season was a testament to how much they worked on teamwork and communication. Skilled players can only carry a team so far -- at some point (back then it was at 1600), a team had to come together if they were going to make any kind of ranking progress.

At the highest levels, I think you make a good point -- you definitely are best off with better mechanical skills and better knowledge/awareness. But for most of us, the answer is much more dependent on context.

Obviously it's a mix of both? If they're mechanically skilled but their awareness/positioning sucks they're basically useless to the team, and vice versa
think of the 3rd option as a half and half, 50% into each would this not make the player average? look at lucas i've never seen this guy out of mid but he is one of the most mechanically gifted in the bracket but he over extends a lot poor awareness (no offense). But even with that he is on the a team for one of the best guilds in the bracket, so one can definitely make up for the other :)
