What even is chromie time?

I'm wondering is there an xp off chromie time guide? I find chromie time is a bit confusing as far as brackets and item drops go. I've had some success in WoD dungeons and warfoged gear items and I'm like cool, I have no idea why that gear is so good but I'll take it. Is warforged gear exclusively WoD or is their other chromie time dungeons that are a must for twinks. Any advice helps, I'm so brand new lol.

Depends on the level bracket. If you are talking about 20's, Dobyg (see above) has already covered most of the gear here - https://xpoff.com/threads/dragonflight-f2p-baseline-guide.99104/post-1308014 in sum, it's WoD WF Gear and Vanilla Epics

Other than that, it's safe to ignore most other timewalking for now, because they will all be lower ilvl

Only WoD dungeon can proc with Warforge, however all epics from dungeons will be high ilvl, so you can get a few items for Classic dungeons.

ah thought so and fair enough very few ppl play the higher lvls.

How ironic that in an effort to make the game more simple, Blizzard created "Chromie Time" making it more complicated (at first).

The NPC makes sense, ya know, so you can access old content and xpacs but it's just clunky af to segregate the LFG ques to xpac specific (at first)... I was afraid they were going to do the same to PvP ques but thankfully I was incorrect!

The fact some items perform differently in each "timeline" is a great example of why the system should be overhauled and simplified, lol, again....

I haven't seen any of the properly scaled items from legion warforge since they changed all the ilvls with the Dragonflight release. A few of the non-scaled world quests and armor tokens will still warforge from ilvl 50 to ilvl 60, but that's pretty much useless.

You can also check https://www.wowhead.com/guide/chromie-time-leveling-zone-expansion-scaling for a general overview of chromie time. It's a little outdated, but I think the level ranges are still mostly correct except for being able to stay in chromie time until lvl 60 now.

Nope, I assume a few people play 60, just like how they played the previous xpacks level cap before. However, I doubt the legion gear would be good for them.
