The Theory
While you are downloading the Spreadsheet lets talk about the theory behind the entire thing. All spell have a base stat that is used to calculate the damage called intellect. They have a spell power coefficient. Lastly, they all are effected by secondary stats. What this spread sheet does is allows you to ignore the individual spell power coefficients of your spells and just find the best over all combination of secondary stats to maximize your output.

TLDR: The biggest Total Multiplier means the most damage/healing per spell.

Learning to Use The Spreadsheet

Alright lets start with a picture of the spreadsheet and go over it.

All green Columns are ones that you can modify. Don't touch the Red ones.
Total Multiplier = Bigger number is better this is what you are going for.
Spell Power= Duh
Crit Rating= Number of crit rating not the percent
Crit Damage Increase= 0 + .5 if you are an ELE shaman + .02 if you are a dwarf or cow +.5 if you are looking at Chaos Bolt
Flat Crit Chance Increase= .05 for crit Pet Aura or .01 for Crit Racials, 0 if none of the previous apply
Crit Chance Multiplier= 2 if looking at Holy Shock 1 if anything else
Total Crit Multiplier= The total contribution From Crit (DONT TOUCH IT)
Haste Rating= Number of Haste Rating not the percent
Haste Benefit Percent Increase= .4 for Disc Priest , 0 for everyone else
Haste Benefit Toggle= 1 + 1 if Spell is a Hot or Dot. If spell is a combination of Hot And instant ( Regrowth or Immolate or Flame Shock ect) Take the Percent of the total heal or damage that is Hot/dot and add that to 1.
example: 200% sp instant and 600% sp over time = 1.75 benefit toggle (Assuming You let the entire Hot happen)
Flat Haste Increase= + .05 for pet aura and .15(troll) or .01 for haste racials
Total Haste Multiplier= Total contribution From Haste ( Don't Touch IT)
Multistrike Rating= Number Not percent of Multistrike Rating
Multistrike damage Increase= doesn't really apply to casters but i may use later for a MELE sheet ( hunter )
Flat Multistrike increase = .05 for the pet Aura
Total Multistrike Multplier = Total Contribution From Multistrike
Versatility Rating= Number of versatility not percent +7 for human
Flat Versatility Increase = .03 for Pet Aura
Total Versatility Multiplier= Total Contribution from versatility.

Now that you know what every column is lets go through the basic Process of comparing Gear.

Lets Pretend That i am a Hpally looking at which gear sets/ enchants are the best for me.
I put in the information from 2 sets one with a haste ring enchant the other with a versatility ring enchant. Which ever set comes out with the highest multiplier will yield the highest HPS.
Its pretty darn similar to my last few spreadsheets you guys are smart, I'm hungry , so ill call it for now. Anyways ENJOY.

Any Questions feel free to ask them <3

Oh i am Leaving its just i got a message from somebody with a question and the sheet was basically my answer. Was just sharing with everyone since I've seen a few math disputes about this stuff lately:)

Looks like you still got a nasty math habit. :p

See you in another mmo, where we are both cats.

Cool but I dont have excel, can you just tell me the best stats for Hpal, MW monk, and Rsham? Somebody? Tyty (if not I'm probably going 3 versatility / 1 haste enchant on all 3.)

Even though I cant use the spreadsheet ATM, appreciate your hard work and thoughtfulness.

Simple three word answer.

Depends on playstyle.

haste on rsham

I know where the apexes of the curves are located.
It was awful nice of you to create a spreadsheet. For me it takes away the experience of doing the metrics for myself. I did all these numbers years ago. And I do them each and every patch. It is all part of the fun of gearing.
I am sure many will use your spreadsheet! The ones that do not do their own metrics. Thanks!

/cheers

Ok. since I'm a NOOB at this.

1) Could you please explain the base numbers you have in at least some of the columns? like how did you come by the 20 haste rating? I can see that i can look at my toon and change the spell power to whatever mine actually is, but some of these numbers i don't know where you got them.

2) what do you mean by NUMBER of crit/haste rating? percent I understand - straight from the stats.

3) Sorry i don't understand how you got this:
example: 200% sp instant and 600% sp over time = 1.75 benefit toggle (Assuming You let the entire Hot happen)

All the numbers in the green columns are just random numbers i put in there.

2) When i say Number of haste rating i mean how much of the stat u have like if i equip gore stained garb that has like 15 haste on it so in that column i would put 15 + any other hast from gear .
I use the number of haste or any other stat to make it easier to look at stat changing possibilities.
The process you would use would be:
to Go into a bg or skirmish
copy down your Int, haste, crit , ms, versatility into the spreadsheat.
now in the next row you can make all the stats the same but then change it a little. For example you want to look if changing out one of your haste enchants for versatility would give u more heals. take 17 haste of of your haste rating then add 17 versatility ( or what ever the enchant numbers are ) to the versatility rating . if your overall multiplier is higher then you will do more damage or healing.

3)
Hot %
Hot%+Instant%

+1
