I watched 5 minutes of Asmongold's stream just scrolling through a certain thread which was created to roast him, or must you say "muster the troops". You know how embarrassing it was for me (most likely the rest of the staff) to see all the disrespectful comments shown in front of 22,000 viewers? And for what? A stroke on your ego? How could you guys be so selfish and juvenile. "Lets hunt this goon down and show him who rules this bracket". What? Are you guys like e-alpha males or something? Are you unable to handle not being as popular as him? Why would you NOT want to give a good impression in front of thousands of people and show how fun twinking can be. Instead, you instantly segregated him away from our entire community (IN FRONT OF F*#%$& 20,000 VIEWERS).
To the rest of you, I have said it multiple times and I will say it again, you are a disgrace to the twinking community and most likely the reason why the twink camaraderie is non-existant.
Grow up and change your mentality of this petty "me vs them". We truly missed a great opportunity for this forum and the development of twinking. And every single person that commented on that thread in a negative way has played a role in that.
Good job.
@Sponsor couldn't you have just... I dunno, called me out by name? The passive-aggressiveness is pretty annoying. It's almost as annoying as the hypocrisy and Asmongold dickriding. "Disrespectful"? Honestly?
First, you don't know me at all, and you don't know my motivations. So don't pretend that you do. I've been a dedicated part of the twinking community for nine years, sharing in the awesomeness of the split-bracket days in 39s and 49s. I'm still friends with a lot of the fantastic people I met back then. The people I play with know I'm one of the most generous and ego-less players around. I'm always first in line to help people with gear runs, include people in groups, or craft gear for people. I play here because it's fun. I play here because I like the community. And I said what I said about assgold because I cannot stand the guy or his stream. This has nothing to do with ego and everything to do with safeguarding and preserving our community and its reputation. Because the people I play with are cool and look for good games and aren't here to pubstomp every BG.
This community needs quality over quantity.
Second, if you're going to quote me, quote me correctly. I said, "let's ... show him who RUNS the bracket," not "rules." Get it right. And I stand by that quote. But don't go on and on about how there's no "twink camaraderie," because in the brackets I play there absolutely is. I get a new btag friend nearly every night I queue BGs. So if you're lacking camaraderie, it's probably user error. It's pretty easy to make friends and have a good sense of community when you're cool, helpful, and fun to play with. Perhaps you could try some of those things.
Finally, what is this great opportunity we're supposed to have missed? Should we all have made carebear threads in which we welcome one of the most toxic players around with open arms? I get why
@Sun did that; that's kind of his role as 39s coordinator, and also in-line with his personality (which is very pleasant). But honestly, did you want a giant "WELCOME TWITCH PRIME" banner and cupcakes? Did you comb your hair extra nice when you watched his stream, and then cry to your mom about how horrible it was that an internet personality, who bases a lot of his stream on drama and stirring shit up, got DISRESPECTED?? ...yikes, man.
I have really mixed feelings on this. On one hand, I want to call this your past catching up with you. Did you really think the community here, the one to which you and others in charge have personally contributed behaviors like these, would react any other way?
@SPQR called it -- you've been here, you've done this. And as he said (if I may paraphrase), drama sells and Asmongold's followers are buying. This community is no different -- the 19 bracket argued for the effectiveness of this approach for years, and got a couple of Twink Cups out of it.
When
@Kirise talks, I listen. Why? Because he's a genuinely good dude who's put a lot of effort into this community. If someone like him were to say, "Bro, you probably went a little too far with your comments," I'd feel bad and apologize. But it's basically tripe and hypocrisy coming from you. And his point about the drama is spot-on, as well. The thing is, AG's viewers will play as long as he does, and then likely go do something else. Those that really enjoy it will stick around, and they're the people we'll want to welcome and help out. Not the fanboys who are here for a few weeks because that's what their favorite streamer decided to do for a little while. So regarding the missed opportunity: the right one--the one that will actually help the community--is still there and waiting. Assuming they weren't driven off by your hypocritical saltpost.
I surprised how much people are wanting all these people to be part of our community... Asmongold and his whole fan base are toxic.
This. So much this. This is exactly why I said what I said. In my experience, most of the people who play the midbrackets are pretty cool.
@dbsprite @Kirise @Sun @weirdowl (and more) I love you guys and love playing with and against you. People like you are why I've stuck around these brackets for so long. I want to keep playing with and against people like you. I don't want the last bastion of fun wow to get overrun by a bunch of dreadfully obnoxious people.
@Sponsor have you watched any of AG's stuff? He's the kind of person who would have played a hunter at 29 back in the day and kept using aimed shot in spite of the community ban on that ability, and then laughed about it on his stream and encouraged his viewers to do the same.
I don't think we should be bashing each other for having opinions. seriously we're gonna play the "oh, you have an opposing opinion on the situation? you're a disgrace to twinking, you're 12, you're *insert generic as fuck insult*" yadayadayada opinions are like assholes why is anything that opposes your point of view automatically immature or childish? foh. that shits just as immature realize that not everyone is going agree with you and respect it
I don't want to sound self centered because I know I wasn't the only one featured on his stream but I feel as though the community is now split apart at war because one neckbeard wants to play 39s, and I partly feel that its my fault. seems like people I was cool with a week ago are trashing me now.
hell, I love the idea of new people joining the community, so long as they aren't like the stereotypical Asmon dickrider
@ohti Don't beat yourself up, man. At least you didn't get [mis]quoted in the original rant. And I agree with your sentiment--we want new people, but we actually want them to be cool and decent people who understand what these brackets are really about, not just tourists who are only here for wow celebrity attention.
TL;DR: I'm not sorry for calling for kill squads to hunt down a certain streamer, and I intend to do it if I ever get a game against him. And if his team beats my team, props to him--isn't competition what this is all about? I'm not sorry for feeling differently about the brackets than Sponsor does, and for wanting them to remain a cool, niche part of wow (pops collar). I'm not sorry for having an opinion and expressing it. And I'll never be sorry for participating in well-intentioned trash-talk on a website that revolves around competition and killing other people's pixels.
