But you can't summon back, cos, you know, button is gone with fwiendlist.
A for character fwiend - gosh i don't think i still have someone alive neither at homerealm nor at connected ones (should connected count? it should, but), the whole game is moving to globalrealm gameplay.

Oh right. I should have specified. All of my RAF characters are on the same server and I added them as character friends

I was able to summon by inviting and then right clicking their avatar in the party. I didn’t try to summon from the friend screen menu

I was unable to friend anyone cross realm, but I did not try to summon across realm on a linked RAF account

Not only win 7. win 8 is going to be incompatible aswell. Start up message says win 10 will be required as of midnight.
Ironic really since support for win 10 ends in October 2025 before Midnight even out.
Mimic apple and force os updates down the throat seems reasonable.

Own nothing and be happy.

With this 90 dollar expansions that suppose to last close to a year it is safe to assume next one will be win 11 only so MS is happy doggo. And so on.
Support and compatibility is different ofc so who knows if this is a hollow threat or loaded gun ready to go. Had yellow triangle of unsupported doom on some machines for over 5 years without much effect. I for one will never update os just for this game so i will treat it as Game Over and adjust.
Been way too long of a run anyway.

Was that page also showing the Veteran section? Did they just removed the Vets list? (I think they did because I can't find it listed anywhere.) Also, Yryadorne first says nothing about veteran status then lists what veteran accounts should be able to do. Do THEY even know what's going on internally?

If they did remove vet status completely, I guess that would answer that. And with our ability to transfer characters to f2p accounts disabled, our 20s are stuck. I guess we could... tippy-toe around mobs and use the map toy so we gain no explored xp and never quest or go in any dungeons.... Or we just never touch that character while subbed. Damn.

I've been feeling that way myself lately, but this game's been my old stomping grounds and I'm sure for others here as well. It's hard to give some things up even when we know it's served its purpose in our lives.

I'm going to get a bit story-timey here, apologies.

This game was basically my social high school, which most people probably don't look back on fondly, but I enjoyed it. It felt really good to have the challenge of, "Can I do this as a 20?" especially with my life situation not being great when I started getting into this. It gave me something to focus on, and oftentimes, I discovered I could do more than expected. It started with just wanting a character to be able to go see parts of the world for memories, nostalgia, etc, but as I learned how much was possible, it felt like a challenge to overcome it all and push the limits. That was over 3 years ago. I've gained more tools in my toolkit than I thought possible, explored most out of bounds areas, learned how to do a lot of cool stuff. I got better at the DH as it became my main whereas I could never settle on one before. The game got a sort of second life for me, but for at least a year that second life started winding down as my character began to hit the actual limit. I created other 20s of every class to help extend it, but it wasn't the same. I'd log in just to look around and log off. Then the recent Lorewalking came and it felt like it used to, with new things to grab and new opportunities to raise the ceiling even further. And for a while that's exactly what happened until this point. I finally got some of the items I'd always wanted.

Part of me has been ready to be done with this game for years now, but the most surprising thing is to be hearing the same from several of you. For me, it all goes back to my first impulse. I just wanted to be able to travel around and see these locations in-game, and as long as that's possible, then I win.

Even if this situation is eventually resolved in our favor, the question of whether to move on is still there. Also SPQR, it's been nice having you around here.

Wow token is issue. unless you are a clever twat like me holding wow tokens on level 20 bank alt you are fucked at the moment.
Can't activate account, can't add bnet balance with it. They straight up stole the war within expansion upgrade from lapsed accounts.
I am sure they fix it that but with everything of late i doubt they will they fix it the way it was before.
With this company it is always - careful what you wish for.

It is customer support section. anyone with wow account can post there.
Only a matter of proper region. This one is eu.
- Go in to your wow account on lizzard page and make eu/us trial license.
- log in to level 1 on it.
- you should be able to post on support forum of corresponding region.
At least i never had issue with it regardless of account status.

I did look for veteran article before posting. i didn't find it. It was there before i recall that. Things of this nature are unlikely to just happen on their own.
Can't blame official forum support or quality control ppl about this really. For most part blizzard treat em like shit. They do have a phone line up but not sure they are even in same country as developers at this stage. It is green MVPs on that forum that are hard not to punch in the face every time for derailing topics and trying to convince you that you did not existed for past 15 years. Nothing worse than a wannabe customer support dog barking out side of the fence.

You just got to set goals in this game and be happy when you achieve them. Be at peace with the fact every log out can be last for any reason.
We not in control of this and probably never will be.

This is a hit but not a critical strike. Treat it as a vacation and log/make pure trial account you know you will never upgrade. You are perfectly fine with mop vendor green gear, x2 elemental force, minor speed and a northrend slowfall cloak. All that is one evening amount of effort.

Compatibility thing however is redline for sure.
The only acceptable compatibility effort is right clicking on .exe and picking os version from the compatibility list.

If you wish to have more control of your wow look else where. Solo private 3.3.5 is nice start to a rabbit hole
with player bots inactive both server and game takes about 40% less computation power than running retail wow.
Best version of the game and no one ever rug pull it from you. If you do a server backup now and then.
Azerothcore discord is helpful bunch for most part.

Countless indie games out there else.

How would that work ? I'm sorry I really don't know much about computing.
As much as I agree with Dev about the game being a part of my past in some way, I still enjoy casually logging in, toying arounds with alts and roleplaying.

I've heard of windows 10, don't really know what that does, don't really know if I have it nor how to see if I do or not even if my potato PC can have it.

It would suck to quit the game like that if I'm to be honest. Even if that would've happened sooner or later (probably sooner though), I'd rather choose when I uninstall the game. I have fond memories of it and that's enough of a justification to me :)

Edit : Oh and btw, maybe it's a silly question but even though we gain xp when locking xp at SW/Org, wouldn't that prevent us from levelling anyways as we don't even have access to the levelling bar when xp locked ?

Win 10 is ten years old, and started the MS trend of aggressively pushing updates to try and get everybody on the same version. If you haven't been intentionally sticking to an older version, that's what you're probably on.

If it's just a bug and the programmers are actually working on it, probably. Although given the fact that they just broke a lot I have no idea what their solution will look like once all the dust settles. If I had to guess I'd say that being XP locked should protect you when the next free weekend rolls around, but I'd still wait for more solid confirmation if I knew one were going on.

best case you will see unsupported icon on you character selection screen.
worst case game wont start at all.

open My Computer, right click on empty space, press properties. you see what you got.
Else open Control panel and search for System category and open it.

they had long standing policy of making it working on as many devices as possible but that was before microsoft takeover.
But as stated, problem is in mentality shift rather than single OS update.
 
Windows 10 was given another year of mainstream updates recently. So it will be good through at least October 2026. There are also more corporate oriented versions called LTSC which will get updates for a few more years for businesses that dont want to switch over soon. Plus there are software projects to get programs working on older versions of Windows like 7 and even XP. Windows 10 won't be fully dead any time soon and wow will probably work on it at least through The Last Titan.

Regarding the problem the thread is about, still nothing fixed. There is a blue post from this morning saying this is a top priority problem they will fix soon and we have another day of nothing.
