WARNING: Experience is banking even with EXP turned OFF (FIXED)

EDIT (Aug 9): It seems veteran accounts are properly flagged as such again (instead of as F2P), with level 20s no longer getting experience and having access to guild/community chats again.

This is on a Vet account: I have some throw away level 20s that I have from PvPing from level 10 to 20 and experience banking is currently active, so you'll gain experience as normal even if you don't level up. It seems disabling experience gain doesn't currently fully stop experience gain.

I did a test with experience on and off. With it enabled 5 experience was gained, otherwise a full 119 was gained.

This seems to only apply to level 20s. (Tested with two of my level 20s to be sure), and though the exp bar is hidden once you turn exp back on you'll see the new exp gained.

My level 11s don't gain exp, nor did a level 18 that I turned off exp gains on, so those appear to be fine.

Unknown what will happen to an exp off character that has banked experience past level 20 when free game time next rolls around. Hopefully it will prevent them from leveling up even if over. I have a throw away character I can test that on when the opportunity arises. In the event it doesn't then what will have to be done is to not log into the character during the free game time.

It still costs 10 gold even if it's not displaying correctly.

Xp disabled 20s on an unsubbed account still gain banked xp. But it seems to be reduced as regular xp gain would be if you were in a group with the xp debuff which reduces gain by like 90% or something

I did apply a sub to a test vet account with a 20 that had 100% banked xp and they indeed did level

Looks like we can never sub again on our vet accounts, and will need to be extra cautious of free gametime events

Mother fuckers! I just noticed the XP gains while I was in a BG and logged off thinking they gave us free game time.
Still level 20 but sucks that we're banking XP now.

Blizz should just let F2Ps play with XP off and raise the F2P level cap to 29.

This happened before after the last free weekend. Vets were turned into f2p and started getting banked XP. I didn't lose any chars, but my old NA main went above 30% on the bar towards 21. I dont know if XP off was busted back then or not.

This should be fixed eventually. If this isn't fixed/reverted I think I'll just give up. I don't want this hanging over my head every time I go to log in, having to check if its a free weekend or not. Then never being able to get mail, trade, use the AH or warbank ever again. Ok you win at that point, I give up.

Still obtaining xp as an unsub 20 with experience disabled is crazy work. Since this doesn’t impact any subbed toons that have experience disabled, I have no idea how blizzard will test this or fix this

Just to be clear, what do you mean by "Xp disabled 20s"? 20s who are level capped on a F2P/Vet account? Or 20s who are also XP disabled?

The last free weekend was in the last patch of Dragonflight and it caused an issue because a bunch of people, myself included, were running 20 twinks in MoP Remix. I luckily heard about this beforehand and just didn't log in until it was over. I still have those 20 Holy Priests. But the advice I heard at the time was that if you locked XP before the free wekend you could play without levelling and then just unloick XP after it was over.

Is this not the case?

Currently levels 10-19 can turn their experience gains off fully, and is working like it always has been.
Level 20s however will now gain experience no matter what. If you turn your experience gain off, you still get some experience (It looks like maybe 5% of the full value).
If your level 20 fills 100% of the bar you'll stay level 20, but you'll bank the experience.

This means when you have an active sub (or free game time) when you log into that toon it will automatically level up according to how much banked experience that was accumulated. The way around this (supposedly) is if you have a toon that has over 100% experience into the level is to not log into it while the sub/free time is active.

on a vet20 with xpoff and no xp bar, i was seeing 1 to 501 XP popping up from mobs/elites aggroed while doing some chest farming on broken shore.

not sure if my 10's doing the same?

Well lads and lasses, it's almost like Blizzard doesn't want us around or something.;) If it was every low level I'd think it was an easy mistake behind the scenes, (this is Blizzard after all) but for it to only impact 20s feels almost intentional. Even if it's not intentional, it feels like they have no reason to put a push on fixing this as it's benefitting their agenda of removing 20s from circulation. It's a good thing I didn't feel like combat today or my main might've fallen victim to this.
It looks like I can't find the guy to turn off xp gains...
Even if you could find him, it wouldn't make a difference if you're 20 right now.

I think it is intentional. They also got rid of the communities for F2Ps.

Oddly enough now that the play I was working on was finished I was seriously considering resubbing just so I could build up my 20 and make a 29 as well. But this is just so sleazy I really don't want to reward such behaviour by re-subbing.

EU servers are up, same situation there as NA. Gaining rested XP at 20, even with XP turned off.

I was also thinking of buying the expac but looking at the current situation, I think if anything I'm more likely to uninstall and let the dust settle.

I get how you feel. Over the last year we have had the situation with guild banks deleting items. Then this same situation with vets getting rested XP after a free weekend. Then the stuff with people getting locked out of warbanks. Now this with warbanks locked down further and people unsure if they are going to have to fight with banked XP going forward or not.

I just feel done with giving this company chances and that I should walk away for a long while.

A recap to be clear: As of the first day of the patch

1) Veteran Unsubbed 20s with xp enabled:
- are now banking xp
- will ding 21+ if sub or free game time added
- can still queue for pvp
- loses ability to communicate with communities, bnet friends and guild
- can only whisper same server friends who have added you

2) Veteran Unsubbed 20s with xp disabled
- are still banking xp, but much slower than xp enabled
- will not ding 21+ if sub or free game time added, as long as experience is disabled
- can NOT queue for pvp
- loses ability to communicate with communities, bnet friends and guild
- can only whisper same server friends who have added you

3) Subbed 20s with xp disabled:
- are not banking experience
- will not ding 21+ as long as experience is disabled
- can queue for pvp
- keeps ability to communicate with communities, bnet friends and guild

4) Pure F2P (SET) 20 with xp enabled:
- continue banking experience as before
- will not ding 21 as long as the account remains pure f2p and no sub is added. Free game time does not automatically apply to these accounts
- can queue for PvP
- retains limited communication methods (no communities or guild), loses bnet friends/chat

Since we have penalty for ingame friends list, no more raf summons to you (idk what about summons to sponsor, probably unaffected.
And a small but important thing - no wow bug related to win7 will be ever fixed, they prefer to discontinue that OS from WW2

Blizzard screwing us? Nothing new. My vet account was turned into a f2p account, I can't buy wow token for gold from character screen, I can't check the price of wow token in a shop. I see on reddit that i'm not alone. WoW has one of the poorest f2p systems in MMO's, yet they still punish us on every occasion. And make no mistake - it's not accident, not a bug, not something they missed. It's intentional.

I was actually able to Raf summon my 20s yesterday. This seems to be unaffected. Worst case you have to add your own alts as character friends
