Warcraft Movie Hype?

In my country half of the reviews gave it 6/6 and the other half gave it 2/6.

Personally I enjoyed it a lot, but if you're a big fan / know a lot about the lore, you might be a bit upset that they're kinda switching things around a bit

I'm rather hyped. The majority of my family and friends have/do play WoW/Warcraft, so they all want to go see it. I'm sure I'll end up seeing it multiple times.

Best part? First movie date with the GF is gonna be Warcraft. We met on WoW, so it does feel rather special.

I really think the review depends on the reviewers affiliation with the game and Blizzard...

Got to see it tonight and I was happy with it, though I thought they tried to put too much into the "first" of what may or may not become a Franchise. The CGI gets muddy at times and if I'm being honest, the Orcs were the best part of the Movie, and they're entirely CGI/MoCap. Here's a basic list of my personal Pros/Cons of the Film:

Seriously, don't click the next "Spoiler" button if you don't want the fucking Movie spoiled, you've been warned!
PROS:
  • Alliance Armor is amazing.
  • Spell effects from Mages / Warlocks were very well done and seemed Organic.
  • Frostwolves were quite impressive.
  • Orcs, especially Gul'dan / Blackhand / Durotan / Orgrim were excellently acted and portrayed, great CGI/MoCap.
  • Set Locations (from afar) were seriously cool to see like Stormwind / Ironforge / Overland Azeroth (Eastern Kingdoms).
  • Sheep.
  • Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! - I won't spoil why I put that there.
CONS:
  • CGI is laughably bad at times, one scene a Frostwolf seems to phase out as it runs into the woods.
  • The Set Locations (close up) are sometimes obviously a "set", they look plastic or styrofoam.
  • Some of the Human acting isn't very good.
  • The Blood Elves looked horrible... like just, no.
  • Medivh's portrayal was like that of a Rockstar when he's first introduced, seemed out of place.
  • Some Fans aren't going to like that they changed a fair bit of Lore for this Film.
  • They tried to pack WAAY too much into this Film. They could've spent most of the Film introducing the Humans, Dwarves and other Races in the Alliance as well as Overland Locations around the Eastern Kingdoms then had the film end shortly after the Orcs came through the Dark Portal. It would've been a perfect way to setup a 2nd Film and certainly would've felt less bloated.

I agree that the lore is very different in the movie. I'd say you would enjoy it more if you see it as a stand alone movie, with a lot of cool references to the game (ie sheeps, and: 'Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle')

Fuck I forgot to add the Sheep, that little tidbit was just perfect.

Marvel/Disney should just buy out Blizzard movies, kek.

But seriously. Could you imagine Disney with Warcraft? I wouldn't necessarily see it as a bad thing, they've done well with many movies lately.

Totally honest, Medivh didn't exactly feel like Medivh to me. Maybe it's because I saw the movie after working for 16 hours, but he certainly didn't feel like Medivh.

As earlier stated, I doubt you should compare the movie too much with the game, Gul'dan wasn't even there for the first opening.
I thought Medivh's final form was insane!
