I plan to make a video to talk about how to be successful in life.

I don't consider myself successful but I think I have lived a bit more than the average forum poster on this website in the sense that, I can give you some life advice that will help you probably more than you think.

I am just a regular middle age guy (almost 40) with a career as an actuary and a self-sustainable side business that sells mainly laptops, i also have reached high level in both chess and hearthstone.

I think this video will be much more beneficial than a gold making video.

What makes you think you're qualified to tell people how to be successful in life? Success to you may be vastly different to what someone else finds successful. Assuming this isn't a troll, this isn't going to work how you want it to. Think critically about your audience, where they are at in life, and what they value compared to yours.

well i gained ~30 pounds since the start of COVID because i stopped going to the gym.

getting back into WoW also did not help at all.

Oughta check out this history show called "Strongest Man In History". Its Brian Shaw, Eddie Hall, Nick Best and Robby Oberst going around testing all these historic feats of strength. real funny shit.
Sounds like a good time to me.

If I ever got into weightlifting or exercise, it'd either be endurance swimming and running or that sort of thing. Then again, I'm lazy as hell. lol

i wish someone told me some of these advices when i was in my late teens / early twenties, so i am sure it will help some folks around here.

Letting wow derail you physically and financially but you've got the secrets to success every highschool grad should hear, huh?

This is similar to your pally build in that... you do you, man. I'm all for folks really indulging in whatever it is that makes them happy. But you gotta stop pretending (and trying to convince others) its some brilliant secret sauce everyone will love, when really its just what you enjoy. Own "this makes me happy, fuck you"

These posts have been just raining in since Shadowlands started.

Now I know this site goes through phases of who’s trolling the most but I almost miss that crazy zoomer lot that just chanted “frogchamp” in every post a few years ago.

"when you have a business, it's not about the money, it's about the time.

more time devoted = more money made, simple as that."

Do I really have to correct you again in your own thread? This is the second time. First and foremost, lets get the stupid out of the way. You indirectly, directly contradicted what you said in one paragraph. You said a business is not about money, its about time. But then go onto say how time justifies how much MONEY you make? So, yes a business is about money. In fact all businesses are about money. If you're not making a profit, it's no longer a business, but a money sink. Businesses employee people off money. If you run your own business you make money to support yourself, your loved ones and your bills. Time is completely irrelevant here. You can work 2 hours a day and be successful or 12 hours a day and be completely idiotic with your money and be unsuccessful. You can work many hours running a business and have it go great, or vice versa and have it go completely sour. There is plenty of people that don't devote their time and make loads of cash. And there is people that devote their time day in and day out and make 0 profit. Evidentially you did this with your WoW auction house experience. You spent hours of your time farming fake money, when you could have just spent real money, saved time, and gained more in-game gold. I don't understand how you're justifying that "TIME" has anything to do with running a business. Business is a skill, not some time sink. People spend hours trying to figure out how to run a business only to have it fail. Others are masterminds at business and can do things a lot easier with a lot less time involved. And I certainly will not be taking your advice on anything to do with success after this mind numbing post.

Yea man, if you never stop working yourself to the very limits of human endurance in the gristmill of post-capitalism america, you can earn some extra money.

Might I suggest that any guide to "a successful life" revolve more around building emotionally fulfilling relationships with friends, community involvement, healthy romantic/sexual relationships, vibrant social engagement outside of a computer, developing hobbies and creative pursuits without monetizing them, etc.
How dare you critizie the 996.

I don't understand these polls you keep making...

Are you doing them just for attention? You know what the outcome will be

Are you doing them to brag about how smart you are? I don't see how a chess rating or hearthstone rank matters here, cuz to be fair... That hearthstone rank wasn't even that great, since I assume its the best you been.

If you want to make the vid, then do it, no need to ask people about it

Nothing to add to this thread other than I concur with checking this out. These guys are an absolute blast in this show.

I will not say no, but not yes either. Reasoning: If done as title says, youll fail. "How to be x" Is not really good idea. Maby you could talk about How YOU became, but now How to Become.

I’m seriously starting to get Allybeboba vibes from these threads (not 100% sure that I got the name right, but this “lemme tell you how life works” attitude I recognise). You are way less passive-aggressive though (at least so far), which is nice.

most people don’t care and won’t watch the video but

if your experiences are relatable and your advice resonates with even one person and makes them commit to improving themselves or inspires them to pick up a new hobby, branch out from their comfort zone, etc., I believe it would be worth the time spent making the video. Definitely be careful of talking too much about your accomplishments though, focus on the struggles and how you overcame them

best of luck w ur vids!

Ya know Glance,

I keep re-reading a lot of the things that have been said during this thread and the one thing that keeps coming up in my mind is this: How "successful" can you really be when you're sitting here arguing about a video idea that you want to make? Why spend all the time and effort trying to impress random people on this site instead of just going off and doing it on your own without having to ask what others think?

Think of it like this... Whenever you want to go draw something on your wall... do you get on here and ask people if they think you should? Why do the same for the video ideas? If you are so "successful" you would know that if you have an idea that you are really passionate about and want to do, that you just go for it, you don't just sit back and ask for permission.

I'm not saying don't make it, but I'm also not telling you to make it. I'm just telling you that you should take a step back and really rethink what success is to you and then decide from there. Because from how you have acted/talked about yourself on here it should be pretty obvious it needs a good re-work.

Thanks for joining my Ted Talk.
