I regerstered here so that could become a more active member in the f2p WoW community, but I cannot start a new thread in the f2p twink forum; and all the threads in that forum are "locked" to me...

Any feedback on how to fix that would be great!

There is a minimum amount of posts that you must post on the site before it will allow you to start a thread. I believe that the minimum is 10 posts.

It's 5

It's okay, I didn't know either Ink. ;P

I started this thread with no problems... and the OP here was my first post...?

*shrug*

Guess I'll go give some random feedback to random threads.

Please make sure it is constructive feedback; instead of unnecessary feedback.

Cheers!

In any case, I got my 5 posts in, and can now start new threads in the f2p section as well as reply to existing posts there... so, problem solved.

If I may make a suggestion - remove that requirement. I've never seen another forum have a requirement like that, and from the new user's point of view, it makes it look like something's broken.

Thanks for the help, all!

This was added recently by another Admin due to the trolls that were constantly creating new accounts to troll...so that's why that section has that requirement. Thanks for the feedback, however, as it might not be the best long-term solution. Stay tuned.

Perhaps, then, the website could be tweaked a bit so that it displays the number of posts needed to post in a given forum.

The button that currently says "Reply to this topic" previously said "Thread locked" which is what caused the confusion: the thread clearly wasn't locked, as others were posting in it.

Instead of "Thread locked" it could read "You must make (X) more posts before you may post in this forum/thread" or something to that effect... just so that new users can see that there's a limitation set on their accounts, opposed thinking something's broken.

That is a good idea. I wasn't aware it showed the threads as locked. This could be confusing to new users. At least I suggest making a sticky or announcement thread stating the post requirement.

I have the same problem (reply button appearing with "Thread has been locked" disallowing me to post) in the F2P twinking forum. Being that my current toons are all F2P, this is the forum I would want to get involved with. I tried replying the first 10 non-stickied posts and each one had the "thread locked" result. I dunno if that was intended to have a minimum post requirement to be able reply to existing threads in that forum, but if it is then I guess I'll just have to get my posts elsewhere first.

Yeah, this whole 5 posts before I can reply to threads in the F2p sections seems unnecessary.

You should have seen the amount of troll accounts posting in the forums before this requirement. It was implemented to stop that and has been very successful. Just post around a bit and then you can start posting in the F2P forum. While it's not a perfect fix it was the best solution.

Just post useless info in other sections or make a comment in threads from a year ago to get 5 posts.

Needs a sticky explaining the 5 post min. Also how about a intro section in the f2p where you introduce yourself then wait a few hours to a day before a mod will give you permission to make posts in other topics.

Spamming 5 posts is a bad idea. Kore made a thread in f2p about the 5 post minimum but I guess he forgot to sticky it or didn't want to for some reason.

Yes spamming 5 posts is bad (was a sarcastic comment) but now other sections have to deal with new members trying to get 5 posts.

Kores post is locked and will be pushed off the first page soon.
