Twink name

Its about blizzard and that the old name is in a bad spot light so its kinda cencored here as far as I understand.

Back in the past blizzard didn't want to link TI with the TinkCup, instead they pointed to Bisnation cause TI has a bad rep in their eyes. This is gonna change now for the better :)

Does anyone know why tinks are called tinks?

My theory: Some people dropped the W to be cool, or to make it appear less like an insult (t.wink = young gay fella). It caught on. Similar to the difference between ni.gger/ni.gga.

Blizzard gave the people who min/max their characters that name. Its explained in the original wow vanilla manual.
Twink (WoW) - A low-level character made more powerful by higher-level characters, usually through gifts of armor and weapons that the character would not normally have at such low level. Also used as a verb to describe the act of giving low-level characters powerful items uncommon at their level.

And before that to quote Wikipedia

The gay-slang usage of "twink" has been suggested as a likely origin.[1] One of the connotations of this usage is "a young/inexperienced person who can outfit himself fashionably because of financial benefits from an older/experienced sugar daddy." This parallels MMORPGs, where in-game money is a strong limiting factor in the virtual economy and gear is usually in the form of clothing and jewelry.

The word "twink" appeared in the Ultima Online: Renaissance playguide in the glossary of terms. It was asserted to have a meaning similar to its current one, but also included powerlevelling.

On the MUD Sojourn, which several creators of EverQuest played, "twink" was alternately used to refer to powerleveling and metagaming. As MUDs date to 1978, this use of the term may possibly predate later uses.
