Hey 19s, I wanted to make you guys aware of something we're talking about over on the F2P forum, in case you haven't caught wind of this yet.
In 6.1, Blizzard is going to change subscriber accounts such that when they are not currently under paid game time, instead of the account being frozen, it will instead retain the same restricted gameplay that start accounts have. Meaning playable characters up to level 20, etc.
Now IF Blizzard doesn't mess with a player's XP-on, XP-off setting when their account time lapses, it could mean that people could keep playing 19s with their very same characters while not subscribed. You even get to stay in your guild, and add new characters to a guild if one of your paid-time characters is in that guild.
This means that it might be possible for you guys to keep playing your 19s even if your subscription time runs out. You wouldn't be able to access any character over level 20, so you would need to have your character already BIS with enchants and stuff, but it might be a nice option if money gets tight for you.
But the big thing I wanted to bring to you guys's attention is that these unpaid benefits apply to every former subscriber that's ever been in the game. That means that there could be potentially thousands of former PvPers who would now be able to play in the 19s without paying, thus growing your community by huge bounds!
This all hinges on how Blizzard handles the XP switch when going from your paid to unpaid status, so for sure this is something to test when 6.1 hits. Personally I think they shouldn't mess with it, because it wouldn't be fair if a 19 has to let their subscription lapse for a month that they come back and find they have to re-lock all their characters again. So that might be something you can bring up with Blizzard, if they do force all non-paid accounts into an XP-on state. But let's hold out hope that they don't, because it will mean a potential huge increase in the activity in your bracket! I know even a good portion of the F2Ps will take this option if it means being able to play at the top level of a bracket.
Anyway, just wanted to pass that along and hopefully brighten your weekend a little. Check out the blue posts on the subject on WoWhead if you want to stay on top of this latest development!
