Take your Warsong Gulch up a notch REDUX!

There are twinks. And then there are twinks. A long time ago I wrote an article called "Take your WSG up a notch!" right here on Twink Info. Since then over 2 years have passed, consumables/buffs have come and gone, expansions have passed, and 2 items from the list are no longer obtainable. The people who continue to have them in their arsenal find them nerfed rather harshly. I've been told using many of the above items is frowned upon, and of course most of them are banned from premades. However, that article, and this one, is for those that look to the extremes for every combat advantage they can get. If you're one of those people, this article is for you.

On my blog, I've touched up on a few things that are mentioned in my original TYWSGUAN article, and then some. If you wish to learn more about Charged Crystal Foci, the Goblin Surveyor, Halaani Whiskey, Energizing Spores, Colossal Parachute, or S.A.F.E. Parachute, check out the posts I've made specifically about those advantages.

While the last posts and blog focused on buffs and consumables, this time we'll be looking at armor alone. There is an assortment of armor in classic WoW that is commonly overlooked and can have devastating effects in PvP. Combining several of these pieces together will make one extremely hard to kill character. I'm going to focus on some of the most and least well known of these armor pieces.

    Stuns and Charges

    Horned Viking Helmet (35)

    Dropped by Eric "The Swift"

Notes: Slap this on as an opener on anything you want dead fast. Be wary that it will also stun you for a short amount of time, so make sure you have help or are going 1v1.

    Goblin Rocket Helmet (ENG 235)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: The same effect as the above item, but it's cloth so ANYONE can use it. Combine them both (they don't share CD) for some wreckless fun.

    Freezing Band (47)

    World Drop

Notes: A twink favorite. While a significantly less chance to proc compared to Deadman's Hand (below), what most people fail to realize is this STUNS the opponent as opposed to simply rooting them in place. And to top it off, you can wear 2 of them at the same time. Also adds a nice amount of FR against those pesky Frost Mages.

    spell_nature_sleep.jpg

    Sleeps and Roots

    Green Whelp Armor (30)

    Made by Leatherworking

Notes: The uses for this item are obvious. You're a druid, you're carrying the flag. Slap this on and RUN. Any melee that may have gotten on your tail, or that pesky rogue that opened on you, has a chance to be put to sleep, taking them out of the picture long enough for you to escape.

    Deadman's Hand (29)

    Dropped by Arcanist Doan

Notes: Introduced by the famous "pro-twink" patch, this item is probably the most popular FC twink ring in the game, considering it's low level and great stats.

    spell_fire_burningspeed.jpg

    Speed increases and CC invulnerabilities

A note for flag carriers: As of 4.2, a good portion of items that increase speed are no longer useable with the Warsong Gulch flag. Please be aware of this when testing out the following speed increase items as you may find yourself unable to use them. You can, however, grab the flag while the buff if active, so feel free to use the effect and switch gear immediately before grabbing the flag.

    Swift Boots (35)

    Made by Leatherworking

Notes: Pretty straightforward. Any speed advantage over your opponent is good in screwing up their strategy, and a surprise sprint from a class that normally can't increase their speed is going to mess up most people.

    Gnomish Rocket Boots (ENG 225)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: Everyone should know this item by now. A 50% speed increase that has a (small) chance to fail. Reliable most of the time. Note the period it increases speed for. It's a LOT.

    Goblin Rocket Boots (ENG 22)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: The OTHER well known twink Engineering boots. A 70% speed increase that has a bigger chance to fail, only if these fail you're going to have to craft them again. Users beware, but remember that an extra 20% speed over 20 seconds is nothing to laugh at. Also note the much smaller cooldown. It's best to have a few pairs of these in your bags and craft more as they break.

Figurine - Golden Hare (JC 200)

    Made by Jewelcrafting

Notes: An interesting item with a usage that combines 2 great effects. You'll be able to keep people off your tail for the duration of the effect provided you don't get completely stunned. But there's always the below items if that happens.

    Azure Silk Belt (30)

    Made by Tailoring

Notes: One of the most unique and useless effects in the game. Short of those weird AB water fights, you won't have much use for this item, especially after reading the about the amazing belt below. Added here for completeness.

    Spider Belt (31)

    Made by Tailoring

Notes: WOW is all I can say about this item. It should be self explanatory, but should you be running the Warsong Gulch flag and you get stunned or snared, use this as it not only protects you prior but also removes existing effects. Cloth so it's for everyone, and NO profession requirement. Protects you from all these.

    Ornate Mithril Boots (44)

    Made by Blacksmithing

Notes: Same as the belt above, except this time it's a Plate item with a higher level requirement. Arguably not as good as the belt because of those reasons, and unfortunately they both use the same effect (Freedom), so they share cooldown. Stick with the belt. Protects you from all these.

    spell_magic_featherfall.jpg

    Slowfall and Misc.

    Parachute Cloak (ENG 225)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: A classic twink item for it's ability to have Burning Crusade enchants in the 20 - 29 bracket. The slowfall is also great if combined with a speed increase off of LM or ramp/GY in the gulch.

    Olaf's All Purpose Shield (35)

    Dropped by Olaf

Notes: This item probably won't see many uses considering it's cooldown, but if you don't have a parachute and need to get out of LM now or need to boost + slowfall off of the WSG GY, switch to this and get ready to do so.

    Evonice's Landin' Pilla (46)

Reward from Look at the Size of It!

Notes: Same situation as above, only you can't switch to this in combat. Limited situations where this might be useful, but here for completeness.

    Gyrofreeze Ice Reflector (ENG 260)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: Give that frost mage a taste of his own medicine.

    Gnomish Cloaking Device (ENG 200)

    Made by Engineering

Notes: For when you NEED to cross tunnel to get to the EFC but there's a horde of Horde (or Alliance) in your way, and you can't be sure your stealth won't be seen by another stealthie.

ANY player who doesn't use EVERYTHING available to them whether in a Raid or PvP environment isn't doing it right. I agree that exploits or cheats are bad, but using an item that is available for your level to your advantage cannot be considered bad just because others are too lazy to craft it, or farm it. Generally the reason people frown upon using such items is as said they are employed by TRUE Twinks, not garden variety "I have full BOA so I'm a Twink" Twinks. The bigger problem isn't a few random, and sometimes very difficult to obtain items, it's that a TON of players refuse to take the time to truly understand not only how to play their own class, but how to play against other classes. If everyone was pro at PvP the above items would be required just to get that 1% edge.

Yeah you know what I'm talking about.

Indeed, I love it when people call me out for cheating when I use my little helper from JC after they look me up and see I don't have JC anymore. I guess it's hard to read BoP doesn't always mean that profession is still required to use it

Your old blogpost is how I stumbled upon the TI site for the first time. I love looking up the quirky fun stuff/items in WoW. It makes it all just that little interesting. I always wanted to make an expansive list of items/buffs/cosmetic stuff, but I don't have the time

Kudos for the blog post, brought me back to my first TI visit! <3

There are perfectly valid reasons why certain groups of items are 'frowned upon' in competitive twink pvp. Those that feel that 'everything should be fair game' have clearly not faced a team where everyone has 10-15 sappers each. Sappers completely take the skilil out of a match of warsong gulch, and other items on that list (noticeably Charged Crystal Focus) have basically the same effect.

I hate dueling people that pop stuff. It's just not fun when you're dueling someone spamming health pots and then trying to reset the CD. Or using grandfathered belt pots, health pots, speed pots, elixers etc. I'm not going to waste my time using any of these in a duel - zero reason anyone should at all. WSG - anything goes of course.
