Okay kiddies, listen up, it's time for the facts.
Its formula for dropping has not changed since the sword's first drop.
-SF has an ilevel of 24.
-In SFK, any mob over the level 21 can drop it. Back in the day when every mob was level 21+ it was dropping very consistently.
-After the huge instance nerf (the one that "repaired" low level instances, turning instance boss greens to blues, nerfed bosses and mob levels, serpent shoulders weren't nonbinding whites etc.) it left I believe 5 possible mobs to drop an ilevel 24 item, including Houndmaster, Fenris, Odo, Arugal, Deathsworn Captain.
-These 5 mobs were at least level 21 and therefore had the .001% chance of dropping sf (original zone drop rate I believe)
-Now Godfrey, Walden, Deathsworn Captain, Commander Springvale, and Baron Silverlane are said to be level 21. (Haven't been in SFK in a long time to see if this is true)
If those 5 are level 21, they share the same drop chance of Shadowfang or Assassin's Blade, infact it is the same drop rate the sword had back when it was first dropped.
The reason it "doesn't drop any more" is because instead of having it able to be dropped from all mobs (however many there are) it can only be dropped from 5. The drop rate is just stupidly low from any of these 5 because its low drop rate used to be evened out by the amount of mobs able to drop it. If you are trying to farm this (I wouldn't waste my time, already wasted so much time for it back years ago) your only concern would be those 5 mobs + any and all chests (even locked). I personally have had an assassin's blade drop from a regular chest under the stairs before you headed towards where Fenris was. That being said, that drop had a 50/50 chance of being either Shadowfang or Assassin's blade. For absolute definite proof that I am 100% correct, see the f2p hunter wielding a shadowfang. He could not have had a cleaver lie saying he was trading someone for the item, and something got messed up, he also could not have also said that he had it at one point etc. The sword dropped. If you were to ask him who dropped it, I would not be surprised to hear him say either one of the 5 mobs mentioned above, or from a chest.
