Question about gear.

Hey everyone I’m currently leveling a pure f2p rogue. I know I can’t use chromie to get into BC/Northern dungs for gear. And I do know that there are ways around it, to still get in (walking to instances, having people run you through, etc) the real question at hand though is the socketed gear worth it? For example would there really a big difference between smoulderhide shoulders and Mantle of Perenolde? Thanks for reading any information regarding this topic would be appreciated!

I'm currently working on a pure F2P leather class too, and it is quite a big difference yea. Considering each socket is worth either +3 of a Stat or +2/+2 of a primary + secondary stat. You could potentially close the gap with ilvl 22 Harmonious Gear (+Versa/Mastery), but you will still be down several stats per piece. As F2P, you have access to socketed Cape, Ring, Wrist (BFA Dungeon), Helm(Scout's Hood or Agile Retinal Armor) , chest(Cenarion Thicket Jacket), Boots (Swamprunner's Boots). You can also farm Legion for other socketed gear, such as the Shoulders (single socket). So, you may need to group for Shoulders, Belt, Pants and Gloves. This is all assuming you have access to Northrend JC for the +3 or +2/2 gems, Delicate Dragon's Eye is the easiest to craft, but you will have to retain Northrend JC to get the stat bonus, and it's a gem you'll probably getting 1 per day of via the daily unless you really want to hardcore farm Titanium, more JC stuff is in the 20s JC guide by Gobo

2/2 agi/crit and 3 agi gems are still available for MOH yea?

to the OPs question, I’m actually not sold on the hyper importance folks place on ilvl 28s over pieces that offer more gem slots.

on gear that’s a single slot regardless, ilvl 28s are obviously better. But giving up 2-3 main stat (or 6 stam) for a couple points in a secondary that’s gonna degrade in instanced pvp?

i dunno, man. It’d have to be a class that heavily favors mastery and you’d have to get the perfect mastery heavy green to drop… and on a f2p? Guess we’ll see you in bgs next year some time lol

Ah yes, farming nazmir and the pigs. Took me months to get an actual socketed gear which doesnt even suit my class. Man fuck BOE gears, wasted a quarter of a year to get those.

Yeah... that's partially why Legion socketed gear is slightly more realistic as a F2P than farming pigs for ilvl 28. At least with Legion, you'll also be working through the Legion storyline for Chaos Crystals for the Satyr Neck enchant (make sure to get the Class Order hall upgrade for double epic/rare upgrades). It's decent if you can get a group to farm it with you, but solo grind it's gonna be a pain

i would never waste time or gem resources on an ilvl 22 over a double socket TBC item. Ilvl 22s are just cope.

and as much as i love a good cross-farm, crafting epics is a more reliable (and less maddening) way to farm chaos crystals.

theres no place better for ilvl 28s on a f2p than fallhaven. Sucks they dont drop rings.

If you are asking if TBC/wolk socket items "that" much better than items without sockets? Then yeah getting the TBC socket gear is huge as the gems are a solid amount of stats each so by missing out on sockets in every slot you are missing out on a boatload of stats. Just look at the armory thread of a fully gemmed toon and count the stats given by their gems alone. If you are asking TBC gear vs ilvl28s then I'd agree with Chops where I'm not sure where exactly the line would get drawn in the socket vs secondary trade is actually worth.

Unfortunately pure f2p accounts cant join ingame communities so you might have better luck looking for people also looking for dungeons in the xpoff or WoW20 discs or in this thread https://xpoff.com/threads/farming-friends-f2p-vet-b-net-tags.75096/

Note: I did not read anything posted above.

Main stat scales up... secondaries and terts scale down. It's simple... have yet to see any nerd math beat that.

Some people with i49s can get away with some jackass builds, have yet to see one of those completely face plant when you get down to the i34 power level.

There are a few WolK dungeon gem gear that are up to par as well.

*** some of the TBC gear lets you stack main stat and versatility.. that is the only real difference you would notice damage wise... missing out on +5 haste or +6 crit is meaningless.

Use only bg crate gear and don't enchant anything, be the nail in your own coffin.

On a more serious note if you are playing outlaw and are horde consider picking up a mokks headcracker from dustwallow marsh quests Or a cudgel of naralax from south barrens. 3.6 atk speed one handers that will probably be you bis as pure f2p.

Here are the wowhead links to these items so you can get an diea where teh quests are.
Mok'Morokk's Headcracker - Item - World of Warcraft (wowhead.com) moks
Cudgel of Naralex - Item - World of Warcraft (wowhead.com) cudgel
