But, yes, just to cover that angle, I read it today. After I read the original post's link, I read the rest of this thread. I then found the other link here and read it, too. Because that information is relatively dated, I thought it would be a good idea to see whether any more recent information was posted since then.

That's called 'research', and it's a pretty good thing to do *before* forming an opinion. Right?

Okey so what you want is everyone to search the whole internet (so they have all the information there is) before discussing in a forum. What would the point be, in having a forum be, if its not to share information/ dicuss/ speculate with each other?

All or nothing fallacy. See, this is why it's pointless to try to engage in rational conversation with irrational people: they hardly ever get it, but when they do, there's so much ego on the line that they won't admit they got it. /sigh

I guess that depends on the focus of the forum. If it exists just to let people post uninformed opinions, then it's a trash can collecting rubbish. If it exists to gather together in a single site solid information, then it's a resource for research. Both can be social settings, but one offers value beyond patting each other on the back, the other doesn't.

There's a difference between 'information' and 'speculation'. You don't have to sacrifice sociability to be reasonably informed before forming an opinion. More all-or-nothing ftw

Agreed. Hopefully an important lesson was learned before cleanup, otherwise I guess I can expect more of the same in the future. Nobody's got time for that
