EU+US PVP at 99, 101 or 109

Hey guys,

I realize that what I loved most about twinking was the PVP. Instanced PVP that it.
I still have 1-2 chars left to level and I am thinking of leveling them to 99. Artifact weapon + the 4 800's pillar quests items. (I won't even bother trying to get 98-99 BoE's at 740 item level).

My question is... should I bother staying at 99? Or go at 101, or even 109?

Anyone tried it all?

Thanks for the input.

Oooooooh boy I just entered a BG.
The stat squish!

Is pvping at 99 with the 800's and artifact still viable?

Depends on the class. My 99 DH is very weak in bgs, but some classes like boomies and such can do very well. Also Artifact traits give a huge edge over other players

But are the items even worth to obtain? Aside from the artifact?
Because of the stat squish?

Well if you don't want to have the slight ilvl advantage nor be able to kick ass in duels, sure.
Granted, 99s are generally easy to twink. You can get the 4 800 quest items, and instead of farming or buying the 746 boes, 690-715 items are fairly easy to obtain thru questing or profession.

Like @Roboartist said, grab any 99, slap (4) iLvL 800 Pillar Quest pcs on it + a Rank 13 Artifact Weapon (any higher is NOT easy) + (3) 715 WoD Crafted + Timewarped for the rest and you've got a pretty cheap 99 Twink without ever having to purchase a Legion BoE... Assuming you can even FIND one to purchase ;)

I took my 99 aff lock (https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/aerie-peak/zêm) into a BG before they made siphon life unobtainable for 99s and I was almost unkillable. I'm sure with the other 2 800 pieces and some better filler items he would still be insane. I have a 99 paladin I started working on but trying to farm the 99 boes is very time consuming.

I used to play 99's alot before moving to the 100-109 bracket. It was fun for a long time, but then I started noticing the que times getting longer, like 20+ minutes sometimes (at least on horde side). Some nights you would have premades queing all night long that made games lopsided and not competitive or fun. I still have a few twinks at 99, but I rarely play them anymore.

For someone that ques solo 95% of the time, I enjoy the 100-109 bracket much better. Games seem to be more competitive, less premades, shorter que times, and everybody can do decent damage if they are skilled. You get a 1% increase in stats for every 10 item levels above 750. At 109 with all 840 epics and quest gear to fill the remaining slots, you can get about 830 item level which equals 8% increase in stats inside a BG. If you don't buy any epics and just use quest gear, you can get about 790, or a 4% increase. Not that much either way so don't expect to just faceroll everybody. If you want to have some fun with gunpowder charges, flag carriers and healers can be killed pretty easily solo, depending on your class/spec.

Obviously, some classes/specs are more OP than others. If all you want to do is instanced PVP and randoms, I say go 109. You can get all your artifact weapons, so you're not locked into one spec. It doesn't take that long to get 12-13 ranks on your off-spec weapons.

I've enjoyed both the same, 99 and 109. But in the long run 109 is more my thing because of better queue times. And why 109 and not 101? Your item level is a little bit higher and being an ipvp char I don't do any artifact power grinding at all besides my class hall. And at 109 you get more ap through that and reaching 2 golden traits isn't a problem.

Both brackets are fun and all classes are doing fine. Obviously, depending on patch, there will always be a class or 2 which performs better than others. But there aren't many twinks and so "your" performance gets better and most people don't use gunpowder charge which is a must, so ...
