Chops
Soccer Dad
Hey guys, I wanted to drop in and give you an update on what we’re currently thinking in regards to the tournament. I think we’ve got enough stuff hammered out that I can give everyone a rough template on what to expect.
This isnt a final draft or anything, so if we change something in the future dont be coming back to this thread like “but but but you said…”
Prize: $1000 to first place. We’re working out second and third place. But it might be like, a 6 pack of pbr and a few moldy pop tarts, so dont get excited.
Date/time: It’s gonna be on a weekend in late Feb, probably the 23rd. Given the spread of time zones we have in this bracket it’ll likely be 6-midnight CT on a saturday night (thats sunday morning in australia)
This should give people PLENTY of time to build a toon, gear and practice while not having to rush during the holidays. It also gives you plenty of time to request off work, get out of school, whatever.
It also gives us a solid amount of time to figure out how broadcast this shit without a whole lot of hiccups, so people can actually watch it. Hey, on that note, if you're experienced with streaming, broadcasting, shout casting, etc... get the fuck at me. We need your talent and time.
Registration: We’re gonna open registration after the new year. Depending on response, we may choose to cap registration at like, 20 teams. If we do decide to put a cap in place, registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Composition rules: Limit 1 per class, one heal spec per comp. Outside of that, roll whatever comp you like. You must maintain your registered comp throughout the tournament. You can register an alternate player but the same comp must be maintained through the tourney.
Still havent decided on switching specs within the comp. We’ll probably allow it.
Gear rules: No grandfathered gear (Omarions, Tidal Charm, etc), no loss of control gear procs (green whelp, freezing bands) otherwise gear however you like. Be grateful I talked myself out of banning all proc gear, weapons included. Scepters are stupid. No weapon swapping on any class for any reason.
Tournament format: Gonna start with a round robin group stage and then move into a single elimination bracket (think world cup). If a high number of teams register, the group stage will serve to eliminate a bulk of the teams while also seeding the bracket. If a low number of teams register, then the group play will simply allow us to seed the bracket.
Dont worry, every “match” will be a best of three games and every team will get to play at least three matches in group play. So even in the very worst case scenario, youll play 6 games.
Should there be ties in group play (there will be) they’ll be broken by number of total games played (less is better) and failing that, total time on the field (again, less is better). Display dominance, get rewarded.
Finals will be best of 5.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Lets go! This is a community tournament, lets get some community input. Im open to ideas. Convince me that you should be allowed to run resto druid/balance. Tell me why we shouldnt allow people to switch specs within their comp. Make your case for a double elimination bracket instead of group stage -> single elimination. Got a better tie breaker idea? Lets hear it.
