Official Game of Thrones Thread - Books and Show

Next episode will most likely be horribly paced. They will squish all these scenes in. I'm not expecting much next week. The whole season has really been a disaster to say myself.

This.

Altho I haven't read the books I've been told and read some of the spoilers of whats to come, and I must say it feels like they will have to leave out a lot of stuff or squize in way to much in the last episode before the season ends =/

Like can anyone explain me what ever happend to Brann and Hodor? I mean it's been 3-4? episodes or so since we saw them escape from Craster's keep and leave behind Jon to case / find a fucking 3 eyed raven or a tree with a face ><

Concerning your point, why would it be stupid for him to come in ep 9? We had plenty of time to fit in the Mance conversation in. Stannis would attack at the end of the episode and then it would cut after 2 minutes of fighting. Then the next episode we would have him at the wall and the Jon v Winterfell scene. Now that won't be shown till next season. The bigger point here is ep 9 had no climax. Jon going to find Mance at the end was just too low leash. The fight would have gone as a perfect parallel to Blackwater when the Tyrells came at the end. Like I said before D and D hate Stannis and will never let him have his moment. They will completely foreshadow him with the Tywin death scene and Lady Stoneheart. Do you think people will care when they see what comes after. ''Cool, Stannis killed the wildlings...O WTF CATELYN IS ALIVE''. Last ep was the perfect time for Stannis to get his due.

it would have been "stupid" for stannis to show up at the end because ep 9 was ALL about the wall, and the watch. and it would have been a big emotional let down after building up both for the season, only to be saved by mannis in the last 2 minutes. also would have missed out on jon/mance talk and all that. the episode was a tad short, but rather than undercut the emotions and risk shoe horning in mannis, they should have just let tormound talk about his bear fucking and the size of his member...or added a scene or 2 during the battle. the climax was winning the battle (as well as the cool visuals, battles - holding the gate, sam head shot, jon awesomness), but now having to face the dread that it was just the wildlings testing the wall, and they still outnumber them 1000 to 1. stannis coming out of nowhere like the tyrells wouldnt be a climax, it wouldve been at the end of the battle anyways, and just taken away from the struggle of the watch (ie the falling action, post climax).

i totally disagree the episode was horribly paced. any more stuff, especially about stannis who show watchers arent as up on as book readers, would have been shoe horned and distracting. and people are freaking out as if everything should have been wrapped up with a bow this season....there is no way to have stannis come, LC vote, garrison the other castles + settle the gift, burn "rattleshirt", jon v winterfell, stannis leaving, etc etc etc. there is SO much stuff left for the next seasons there was no way to neatly wrap it up other than stannis coming in e10 and then starting off in s5. people seem to freak out that the show is about to pass the books, but you have to realize how much material is left before that happens.

if LSH even shows up, im sure they will execute it well and in such a way it doesnt overshadow arya going to braavos, mannis showing up to save the wall, tyrion killing and running, or any of the other plot lines. and thats even if she shows up...people on r/asoiaf seem to think its a given, but i could see her not showing up till epilogue next season, much like how WW and oathkeeper were forged. would that disappoint some people? sure...but its their faults for getting so excited over tin foil in the first place. you cant build your own expectations up then get pissed when D&D dont play it out exactly how you wanted...i think theyve done enough to get more than the benefit of the doubt concerning pacing and adaptation.
which leads to my next point, there is no way D&D HATE any character, especially one that grows as important as stannis in the coming books/seasons. D&D know his role, GRRM sat down and outlined how he wants the books to progress/end, and theyre not going to irrationally hate a fictional character; especially one that is actually important. they have shown how great they are at adapting pretty much all the characters and bringing them to life from the books.

if you already think next episode will suck, then it most likely will. youre making a self fulfilling prophecy by expecting things to happen that have not been confirmed man. imo just chill out and enjoy the show...when have D&D led us astray? they have enough equity w/ me at least. not to mention reddits been saying e10 will be 65min long, so it should be paced a lot better, nothing should be squished or shoe horned in. if something is left out, then it will undoubtedly be saved for coming seasons to not short change the viewers (as well as the book readers).

they really dont have to leave anything out or squeeze it in EXCEPT if they were trying to tie up the wall/stannis plot with a bow this season. which would be damn near impossible considering everything that happens there. D&D know what has to happen, and how to put it out, if that means saving it till next season then so be it imo. if you dont care about spoilers then browse r/asoiaf or read the wikis to see just how much stuff is left at the wall and beyond

bran and hodor (as well as jojen and myra) have just been treking beyond the wall since leaving crastors. in the books the only reason to follow them is a new "person" introduced known as coldhands - well and some cool stories like the knight of laughing tree - but CHs was cut out of the show. between crastors (which was added for the show) and the tree, theres really no action up til this episode where they get to the weirwood tree /cave and find the 3 eyed raven. and you'll find out all aboot dat. hopefully meet some children of the forest too

so ya, was right about LSH not showing up, but id expect it next season...dont see any reason or possibility they'd cut her.

the changes to tyrion/tywin dialogue didnt bother me *too* much. i mean i like when it stays as close to the book as possible, but i dont really mind no tysha.

cercie was annoying tho. from her threats to tywin to then banging jamie, could have done without both of those things. wish tywin woulda just sent her packing to casterly rock right then for saying shed kill the king and or opening his eyes to the twincest.

and i wish arya got more screen time leading up to braavos and more dialogue with the captain and crew, but hopefully itll flesh that out a bit before she disembarks and finds the temple.

overall a pretty good ending imo. r/asoiaf went sort of bananas cos a lot of them had wanted lsh so bad, but a lot of people are more level headed and can enjoy the show for what it is and understand changes. i know im still looking forward to next season, and the ones after. but i also wish grrm finishes the next books before show surpasses adwd

Well said falkor, ive read and listened to the books and i'm absolutely obsessed with them but the makers of GoT have done an incredible job, in my opinion, of not putting off book readers with changes. For example, the scene with Breanne Vs the Hound was awesome, and incredibly well done, it did not bother me one bit that it was not how events took place outside of the show. I was a little annoyed that we never got the "Where do whores go?" motto going but I'll get over that. There's no way they could cut out Stoneheart

Alot of people's opinions about LSH is that she is in fact a cuttable character....more of a side story and a cool filler but doesnt play a huge part in the grand scheme of things. imo I hope they dont cut her

she could have a larger role in WoW and on if grrm has blackfish and/or howland reed have connections with her/BWB in the riverlands. if shes sort of a one hit wonder, they could definitely cut her.

i think she would be sweet to see on screen, and either as a finish for last season, or an intro for this season it'd be creepy/intriguing and draw people in again imo...but obviously she wasnt in s4 and with s5 going to be focusing so much on dorne/iron islands she might not be involved at all...at least not before s6. i think book fans need to start tempering their expectations and see how D&D play it out. even with all the changes in the finale of s4 i still liked the entire seasons arc(s) and have no problems enjoying the show for what it is, while also loving the books.

eh...we don't know what LSH future is inside the books least of all the show, what we do know, is that she is one of the few known instances of magic, powerful magic from the red god, strong enough to bring someone back from the dead 7ish times, but then something went wrong, i'd say with the other magic that we know wasn't just a cheap gimmick, that's pretty significant, keeping in mind her relation to the BWB and their...longevity in the series, and hers, i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss her as "cuttable", and then there's always the last scene we've seen from her in the books.

I'd say they will introduce her next season, also...I've heard rumors of possibly cutting Val...anyone else heard about this? I would be pissed.
