Neon's dumb pure f2p questions thread

Hello not sure about the scythe. Yeah I grinded out my bromachs and am grinding the tiered medallion settings rn.
What is the end goal spec for your character? I was planning on making mine balance so I think I’m supposed to go haste vers pretty much everything? Idk how good mastery is these days. I ended up making a new character since I don’t really like the horde cities lol, just rehit 20!

Have you learned tailoring to get a cloth drop bonus? I farmed Lightless Silk for 11 bags in ~3 hours on one of my toons last week with no problems whatsoever, haven't noticed any changes in drop rates.

Yep I have tailoring learned and the bonus learned. I got my bags thankfully but I was farming the lightless silk for about 7 hours! Maybe I’m doing something wrong… I farmed the drust guys in ardenweald.

Well I've no idea how fast/effective farm in Arden, my toons usually stop SL adventures at Bastion :). I'm not a big fan of this particular expansion.. Did it twice, and since there's no way to re-arrange campaign order its too annoying to do for a 3rd time. So its usually Bastion and fallen Kyrians for me.

I'm new to F2P but I've played WoW before, once back in 06-07 and then again for a couple months in around 2014. I just rolled a new toon a few months back and I have some questions. I am a 20 right now and would like to stay that way, but I do plan on in the future subbing for a month to get mats from my higher level toons and open up my warbank. Will this automatically make my 20 a higher level since I never actually turned the XP off and if so, is there any way to avoid that? Also, are there any tips for maximizing that one month of time with a subscription to help out my F2P toons at a later time? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that a locking XP will keep a 20 from leveling even if they have banked XP. Just don't unlock it as long as you have active time. (And probably leave it locked for like a day or two after, since the system might not fully recognize you as unpaid the minute your time is up.)

What's your long term goal? Wanting to make one super twink will require a lot of investment from high level alts and/or the AH, while going for account-wide goodies mostly takes time but will require a lot of grinding to fit into one month. A few things that I'd consider important as someone who looks after account-wide unlocks;
  • Complete the DF campaign, and ideally the Legion and BFA campaigns as well. Adventure mode in DF campaign is a huge bonus. Legion and BFA campaigns only unlock invasion WQs for your 20s, but those can be nice to pick up some rep or resources while they're up.
  • Unlock allied races.
  • Buy anything with a cost over 1k that really appeals to you. Let me strongly recommend a vendor mount here, since they're a huge QoL boost.

If your account/ game license is a pure “starter edition” then you will bank xp, which will be granted whenever you end up subbing for the first time

If your account ever had game time, then it is considered a “veteran edition” and you will not bank that exp and can sub at will

Keep in mind. You cannot queue for PvP instances if you have you do not have game time and have xp disabled. (This prevents starter edition accounts from playing lv 10-19 for pvp)

I'm not sure my long term goal yet but I'm completely decked out in ilvl 96 TW gear and I know that unless I want to grind lots of old dungeons the only way to get the gear more powerful is to buy mats for enchanting, etc. I figure I'd like to be in some of the best gear I can be in and explore content as it comes out, but I also kind of want to create an f2p that I can use to explore as much of the story as possible from the beginning. I also want to build up things in my transmog stash.

If you want to optimize one toon, take a look at the Baseline Guide and the F2P/vet armory. Quality gemmed gear is generally better than TW gear, although TW gear is nice to help you get started on your grind for gear with gem slots. Meanwhile if you want to take advantage of vet status, it might be easier to just buy enchants and gems off the AH.

That said, completing quests and collecting transmog isn't hard, and you can get by with unaugmented TW gear or even unaugmented plain dungeon gear just fine.

I bought gametime and the expansion. Anything specific that I should do on my 80 to aid QoL when I go back to F2P in a month?
Get access to adventure mode if DF for your alts, it'll open all of DF dungeons except 1 and it'll open all locations in DF. All of that become 10-70 afaik, so quests, rares, dungeons, etc.
I'd suggest you to also get a Nazjatar access on your main, so your 20 lvl could use most of the Mechagon island properly, there could be cool rings.
