Mindthrust Bracers...almost

Dropped today while I was running my RaF partner through SFK on a lowbie MW Monk alt, but a hunter won them after my RaF partner didn't roll at all. I then proceeded to tell him what they're worth so he wouldn't vendor them or something, which is what he told me he would have done...then it later occurred to me that I'm a healer and it would have been perfectly fine to ask him for them before he knew what they were worth D: I know I'll never see them again in my lifetime, sadface.

Honestly MTBs are farmable. Loot chests and all mobs. Nearly every mob in the instance has a chance to drop them.

Mindthrust Bracers
Equip level: 16
ilevel: 21

Shadowfang however, has an equip level of 19 with an ilevel of 24. Shadowfang can only be dropped by mobs that are level 21 and higher which there are only 5 of in the instance (counting the rare spawn)

Keep trying. Every time you see a Black Malice, Face Smasher, Guillotine Axe or a Witching Stave you had an equal chance to get a pair of Mindthrusts instead.

The loot system isn't biased based on the name of an item. The only thing that matters is the ilevel of the item and the level of the mob.

As long as you kill a mob that is level 18-21 and is in the Shadowfang Keep Zone:

RNG has a 1/n chance for dropping a blue zone drop with an equip level 16 ilevel 21 off of every mob that is levels 18-21 and is in SFK.

Then also think of it as a 1/5 chance at that drop being MTB instead of the other similar blue zone drops.

This is all combined into one "roll"

n = unknown unless Blizzard specifically announces the numbers that their rng system uses to determine the outcome of the loot system in this particular case. (which will never be known)

RNG is random. You could never see them but that would be very unlikely. Usually RNG pays off in the long run and you'll eventually get what you were trying to get. Every kill is independent of the last kill / chance at the item but again it would be very unlikely to farm every day for a month straight / opening all chests etc and not see a few pairs of them. On average I estimate based on my own findings that about .67 blue zone drops will be looted per run (about 1 drop for every 2 runs). The really annoying part is hoping for MTB over another Witching Stave. This is just based on my own findings and nothing concrete but WoWhead will give you a better idea of how often a blue zone drop will drop.

Just a little bit of inspiration that the odds are actually in your favor as long as you keep trying for them...

It's unlikely that someone will obtain them without them binding but it's still worth a shot checking the AH as much as possible / in between instance lockouts.

Chests have "mob levels" just like normal mobs do. You will not see a chest drop an level 21 blue in the same chest as an ilevel 24 blue. Every chest has the chance to be a low enough level to accommodate for an ilevel 21 zone drop but some chests may contain higher ilevel items resulting in the chest "mob level" being too high for an ilevel 21 zone drop.

Mocha

Or you just buy them for 10k from the AH lel. Screw farming them xD Farming the gold will go much, muuuuch quicker.

I did on my f2p Rogue 760 full runs SFK, and ~ 250 runs, only killing first 3 bosses + rare one, i didnt kill any trashmobs any run
Baron Silverlaine Commander Springvale + Deathsworn Captain are bosses pre shattering and only those bosses can drop random zone items!
Baron Ashbury Lord Walden Lord Godfrey have no confirmed random drop ( no greys, whites, greens, blues)

i got ~ 3 randoms from killing bosses only, got my AB from Commander Springvale

Randoms droping with 1/10 000 , so for Baron and Commander are these 8 possbile random zone drops!

so you have a chance of 0,1% to get 1/8 rardrops from thoose 2(3) bosses

Ah I wasn't sure if this was the case.. If anyone has seen a witching staff or anything else of that sort drop off another boss then that would drastically change your approach.

The other thing is you will be missing out on chests and locked chests which as a F2P doesn't matter as much since you have no way of opening them.

Good thoughts and way to think outside of the box. The two fangs that my guildies had drop back in cata in the same week were both from Springvale which supports your findings.

Way to go with the further development of the drop rate of Shadowfang. I had not considered the possibility that it would not be in the loot table of the other bosses!

if you click the links on the bossnames you will see that they didnt drop any randoms in 5000 kills, i m loggin my loot also on wowdb, its only a klick to activate it if you re using curse-client!
i have also seen here only confirmed screenshots of shadowfang droping from those 2 bosses!

i m boosting my f2p on my 70 rogue, so could open all chests, but didnt know that zonedrops can be in chests too? can anyone confirm this?

From the last time I farmed sfk (been a few years so it may not be viable information) I have seen several zone drops from chests.

Since the chests haven't been changed if I'm correct then I believe it should still work out.

So the same thing goes for Assassin's Blade right? I did a lot of research but i'm still confused about that particular item...
Assassin's Blade doesn't show up as much on the AH and there is no data for it on wowhead...

Tears..

Can anyone tell/confirm that Assassin's Blade still drops from trash?

Cheers

assassin's blade still drops from trash

so anytime there were mindthrust bracers or any other rare SFK world drop it''could'' have been a assassin's blade instead
i personally seen one drop from trash

now sfangs itemlvl is too high for trash to drop

This information is accurate.

Assassin's blade is as common as mindthrusts which are as common as the other zone drops with the exception of Searing Blade and Night Reaver.

The Availability On The Auction House Explained:

Mindthrust Bracers:
You won't see Mindthrusts show up on the AH very often because any leveling toon who has int (which is 4 classes out of the 6 most popularly played classes in the game) is going to need on them and bind them in sfk. They are far superior to any other set of bracers that a leveler may have come across in the process.

In order for them to hit the AH it would require:

a) A random dungeon where everybody passed on them (highly unlikely) or where everybody chose greed on them (again very unlikely)

or

b) Someone who was running sfk solo and decides to AH them. Honestly if someone is running SFK they are either looking for MTB, AB or Shadowfang. Bottom line they will know their worth.

Assassin's Blade:
I'm not surprised we aren't seeing it as often. Guillotine axe has almost the same listings on the undermine journal as Assassin's blade with the exception of people still knowing about how valuable they can still run for nostalgia purposes / transmog, which explains why there is a slightly more amount of guillotine axes on the ah than AB. Also keep in mind Rogues are one of the most popular classes in lower levels which use both items, monks can also use Guillotine Axe as well.

Other Zone Drops:
The other zone drops are useless to levelers and/or SFK farmers which is why you see them all over the AH… BOA > Witching Stave, BOA > Black Malice, nearly any 1hander with str > Face Smasher.

Only a prot pally, a prot warr, or a fury warr would have a use for Face Smasher. Chances are if you're playing prot you're pretty much BOA'd out and power leveling and nobody really levels as a fury warr.

Are you Medi, undeae rogue from EU? I have a AB on my f2p rdruid after 27 runs and I honestly don't understand all this how it can drop and chances stuff. I'm pretty positive no AB is just as rare as MTB in our current expac.
