Hello
Is it possible for f2p to steal these? Cause I tried to steal the Undercity one for several times and it keeps killing me while trying to loot (in log: Flame of the Undercity Cleansing Flames hit You for.. something like 5k dmg). Am I doing something wrong?
Is the only way to loot it using paladin's bubble and would that even help at all?

Its possible i did it as horde its the guards that are killing you thats why its hard to loot.

get an f2p friend or seccond account for taunting and keep aggroing the guards, good timed in most event cases the way to go
 
Oh, so the combat log is giving false info about the cause of death?!

Ok, just to inform everyone, it is the flame itself that kills low lvls, happens to everyone these days. It does something like 5-10k dmg so you need a big hp pool or some kind of shield to absorb that amount of dmg.

The person on the official forum used prismatic barrier while looting and that saved him. This is only the case in the Undercity, probably because there are no guards around so this is the only safety measure, or bug ofc. The other city flames are looted without issues.

Conclusion: the only way for alliance f2p to get this achievement is by using paladin's bubble while looting Undercity.
Ofc, if anyone has some different idea please insight me.

That amount sounds suspiciously like the "unscaled" damage that occasionally sneaks-into special events (holiday bosses, city invaders, etc.)... you might want to report it as a bug, and just hope it gets hotfixed in time.

  • If your goal is to earn it #UltraSoloF2P style, then you're probably out-of-luck (unless you've just returned after a 9-year-absense and still have an old Light of Elune in your bank). :p
  • If you can get high-level assistance, then all sorts of things like Power Word: Shield or Cauldron of Major Fire Protection become options. :cool:
  • If you just want the King of the Fire Festival achievement, you could simply level a paladin in a couple hours and nobody would have to know. ;)

I vaguely remember players getting damaged by it... but certainly not killing (nor, um, "coal-blocking") them.

EDIT: My curiosity got the better of me... so in the spirit of "SCIENCE!" I created a dwarf and ran it to the Undercity (and only died 5 times!). Can confirm: Huge unavoidable damage, and no prize for your trouble. I also attempted it from maximum distance/elevation/etc. (even got on top of the lamppost)... no dice.

I wasn't able to quite catch it in the screenshot, but the spell-effect looked identical to this video from a decade ago... so I suspect it was always there, just not this obscene. :rolleyes:

(f2p) Had the same problem (2020) of massive flame damage (and death, which is inconvenient) when looting the flame at Undercity. Lots of swearing, repeat, more swearing, look on line.

Could loot with a paladin (an alt) in a protective bubble, but this alt has no access (got through Blingtron teleport then locking hearthstone) to Outland, so can't get other parts of the meta achievement. Reported to Blizzard as a bug (or they should just flag it as impossible for lowbies), but not holding my breath for it to change quickly. Even a potion of major fire protection (don't have and couldn't use) would be nowhere near enough.

Any solutions welcome! Please post here.

as you've rightly noted, the only way to get this is with a pally bubble. It is, as best we can tell, a bug. But if you can get a summon or teleport to outland from a friendly mage or lock, you should be able to get it done. Best of luck to you.

Thanks; currently grinding Outland on one of my main chars, and hunting Blingtrons. Going to see if I can physically exit the midsummer Ahune dungeon, as that is (under) Zangarmarsh.
And still have to work out how to get to Deepholme. Going to see if I can swim to the Maelstrom via Broken Isles, but apparently at the Maelstrom a) there is a barrier to stop people getting out to fish, etc. (probably also stop you getting in) and b) some kind of auto-ressurect, so you can't even die and resurrect at a graveyard inside.
We'll see!
