LifeStealing for f2p

Is it possible for pure f2p to get this by unlocking and farming old Scholomance?

I've read this guide https://www.wowhead.com/news/how-to-enter-old-scholomance-farm-once-removed-transmog-items-333981 and it seems that the only obstacle to pure f2p is the Heroic dungeon for https://www.wowhead.com/item=88566/krastinovs-bag-of-horrors

But i also note that the guide says "You do not need to have the toy yourself, but you must have someone with you who has the toy in order to start the secret.". So does it mean I just need help from someone who also have this from the Heroic dungeon?

I'm EU & would really appreciate some help if the offer is an open one. It's been frustrating me how I could achieve it without a month long sub I won't have time to make the most of - I have a heavy workload IRL right now, but I can be pretty flexible on time for a week or so.

Happy to fit in with others' schedule given a little notice, to make it less onerous for everyone.

If we could make a full group it would be easier for me than doing it over and over again but if no one else wants to do it it's not a big deal we'll do it anyways since you want it.

Just to unlock the Old Scholomance, after that f2ps can run the old dungeon themselves - the old dungeon with the NPC that drops Lifestealing.

And the helper only needs to do a few simple steps, though I never tried this before, so can't tell for sure. Nevertheless, from the guide I have read, I think the helper just needs to:
1. group up with the f2ps,
2. let them clear the dungeon first,
3. go inside the dungeon to the room near the final boss, and use the toy to summon the NPC, and let it offers the trinket for the group.

Just to say that thanks to help from the awesome CroyeTchor, who already had, Krastinov's Bag of Horrors, today we unlocked Old Scholomance for me & I now have Lifestealing on my enchanting alt as Formula: Enchant Weapon - Lifestealing dropped on my first run through.

We followed the instructions here as above.

While I couldn't place Krastinov's Bag of Horrors, as I don't have it, I could do everything else & in hindsight could probably have done so on my own if necessary, once we'd done the first clear & placed the bag on the bones.

Top Tips:
  • I made sure I had 3 Dark Rune Dark Rune and 5 Essence of Undeath Essence of Undeath ready to go before we grouped up in game. (That took longer than the actual run.)
  • CroyeTchor was high enough level to clear the dungeon for me in very quick time.
  • While I was chasing around after other items & candles, CroyeTchor cleared live Stratholme for me, up to where the Undelivered Shipment of Smokes was located, so I could just run in.
  • While I was reading the instructions towards the end, CroyeTchor handily marked some of the NPCs I needed to find.
  • For clarity, at the final stage, where the last but one paragraph of instructions say "...the top right room in the building..." that is actually on the Ground Floor, (First Floor for US readers), so no stairs involved. It's the Northeast corner of the building at 69.78, 71.81.
All done in about the 45 minutes we had free, most of which was me flying (slowly) around or running through corridors. Could have been quicker if we'd identified the room with the bones sooner (before, helpfully, I ran off - oops). It's actually close to the final boss. Also if First Floor didn't mean different things in English & American - would have saved my running.

For clarity, I'm currently an un-subbed vet, but my support was subbed, so could help me on a higher level alt.

Hope that gives someone confidence to try it out.

Now to be fair i don't think being subbed was a real necessity at any point -it admitedly sped up the process- and the only requirement that cannot be met by f2p is https://www.wowhead.com/item=88566/krastinovs-bag-of-horrors which can be used by a level 20 if in the collection anyways. The group part is much easier with a sub but asking nicely to people near Chromie can be a solution if nobody has a sub (albeit much less reliable/convenient/fast).

We took perhaps a bit longer than needed, the two of us not being too familiar with the process (or being long-forgotten for me haha) but flying makes this so much faster it's trivial.

So while a sub helps, I'm quasi-positive we can make it work fairly reliably without one as long as somebody has the toy. Just make sure you have the required components (@FiveSpice explained everything) and it's more or less smooth sailing from here.

I'm perfectly willing to lend some help (on EU servers) if someone were to need the unlock, it doesn't take that long and it makes for a pretty fun run ^^

All I can say is that I had them in my bags at the start & as far as I remember when I'd finished they had gone.

Obviously I need several Essence of Undeath for Enchant Weapon - Lifestealing & I'm having to farm more - I have none at present.
 
@Lethys Good catch. I missed that one.
Still wondering if it's true though? Could also be that whoever posted the above had the reagents in their reagent bank tab and it was pulled from there without them noticing.
 
I also had the required mats vanish from my bag. I don't know whether you need to fix the spectral essence trinket before you can loot the femur and the book, or if you can grab those and only worry about the trinket later when you want to interact with the ghosts. The latter saves hassle if you complete the dungeon but forgot the mats.

My run through Scholo did involve queuing the dungeon and Eva still showed up. That's an option if you either go in with another vet or if you want to try your luck queuing and asking if any of the other folks in the dungeon have the toy and wouldn't mind giving you a hand.
 
Sounds to me like the stars really must align for queuing scholo to work. Between having to chromie time into waiting for the queue to pop + someone in the group must have the toy + the guy who has the toy must be not too apathetic to use the toy + guy and rest of team must be patient enough to figure the event out with you. Overall just seems unlikely.

Essence of undeath is a fairly common drop in strat, which I've run many times now, including with TW. Dark runes seem to have a pretty high drop chance from some mobs in the Eastern Plaguelands. As for forgetting the mats - not gonna happen. I've been using crusader enchants on agi characters for a while just to give them a boost in survivability in solo content, and as a pure f2p player I had pretty much ruled out lifestealing entirely. It might be part of the puzzle to unlocking rogue solo without cheesy trinkets. If anything I'd farm twice the amount of mats just on the off-chance something was to go wrong during the entire process. If someone can help with the event at some point it would be greatly appreciated, as it would likely save a 2 digited amount of hours.

Maybe, since materials for some uses (but not all, e.g. Simple Flour for Darkmoon Faire's Putting the Crunch in the Frog etc.) can be either in your Bank, Reagent Bank or Warband Bank, rather than on your person, people maybe just haven't noticed they had/used them.

That said, I am having a real problem with materials in general for this whole Lifestealing shenanigans:

Dark Rune - Relatively plentiful, so not a problem. (However weirdly I never noticed they existed until this.)

Essence of Undeath - Slow but doable. Need them for the whole process, plus the enchant once it's dropped.

Living Essence - For the actual enchant only. If I didn't have one in my bag (possibly from a recent Dire Maul run) I'd swear it doesn't actually exist outside the auction house, which obviously sans-sub I can't currently see. I've farmed lots of ways following Wowhead advice, but not one has dropped when I've actually tried to farm it.

Any up to date tips, before I try more out of date Wowhead advice in the hope something's back to being current?

(BTW If anyone wants several hundred Inert Elemental Grain I can spare some. ;))
 
using DH or monk 10s. been getting alot of https://www.wowhead.com/item=12808/essence-of-undeath and https://www.wowhead.com/item=12803/living-essence off the DM captial gardens portion dung that is up during TW. also getting https://www.wowhead.com/item=12803/living-essence from the other part that is up for TW the warpwood quarter

i would recommend running all the TW dungeons for ivl 56 gear and filling holes with ilvl 51 vendor gear. once you are geared you can grab some enchants from your warband. hopefully you have a ench alt with WOTLK ench, and also a BS for some sharpening stones. once that is done which is quick, do the random TW ques, when you get DM capital gardens and finish it with a group. log out or Alt F4, wait 30 minutes and farm the 3/4 group clusters of tree mobs and farm undeath also from the Eldreth type named mobs in area where https://www.wowhead.com/npc=11487/magister-kalendris is

prior to this TW event, i used a f2P 20 hunter and a druid to get enchanting to 300 and farm mats. they both have ooze trink which made it a breeze. a 20 DEing will get higher level DE mats than a 10, however on my 10s still use them to DE, the mats will get a alt to the 100 = ish range, 10s though do get large brilliant shards off the 56 blues which is need to go 300 for LS or crusader (good time to get righteous orbs also during event)


add on: if you are horde there is a https://www.wowhead.com/npc=42028/kromgar-quartermaster vendor in stonetalon mountains, that sells greens cheap that DE into mats mats needed for like 175 to 300. you have to unlock the zone which starts at this quest https://www.wowhead.com/quest=25945/were-here-to-do-one-thing-maybe-two. using warband bank you can funnel mats to all your players that need it

just checked my warband bank. i have 53 living and 36 undeath along with 172 large brilliant shards that are all from DM, which were not intentionally farmed and they are from doing the TW event
