Ok I wanted to make a post about this because everyone on fb is jumping on this "kony 2012" bandwagon, blindly, without looking at the real facts which is worrying.
For starters, do not donate anything-not your time, not your money, not a click of your mouse-to this 'movement'. Don't be fooled by clever movie editing; the U.S government are conning you nicely. This is all a ploy to get a military base in Uganda. Research AFRICOM (there's loads on YouTube about it) it's the US and other western countries way of worming their military into Africa with a camouflage of 'protecting the African people'. What they're really doing is using their imperial power to exploit the resources and materials of the continent. This is to be in competition with China who has good relations with Africa.
AFRICOM has been aware of the oil in Uganda for a long time:

So by using "kony2012" as an excuse, the U.S will do to Africa what they've done to the middle east.
On top of all of this, Kony has not even been in Uganda for the last 6 years. Since the video was made ( 2003) Uganda has stopped experiencing the magnitude of violence shown by the LRA. Kony and his troops have been forced into the Congo and pushed into the Garamba National Rainforest there. He's weak because the Uganda People's Defense Force have defeated him and he's now sitting in a forest starving to death. Ever since march of 2002, the UPDF have been carrying out raids on the LRA and have freed many child soldiers and sex slaves and brought them home to their families. Of course, there hasn't been complete peace as the LRA fought back, but since 2004 the Ugandan government (as corrupt as it is) has been beating and slowly defeating the LRA.
So basically this Kony2012 vid is years old, with information in it that's not current. People will still argue though "why you hatin they're collecting money for the Ugandans". Nope. The CEO's of the charity admitted themselves that only 31%of all the funds they receive actually go towards helping anyone in Uganda. In fact, they use the money to pay for their flights to Africa and for their fancy filming. Last year alone the 3 CEO's of this movement spent over $1 million on their travel expenses. On top of this, they refuse to let their financials be independently audited, which is dodgy for an 'honest' humanitarian cause. So overall, this faux activist movement is more of a social experiment and distraction 1. From the massacres happening in the middle east, and 2. A justification for having more American military in Africa.
Still, this doesn't mean that the conflict and suffering in Uganda is over. The government is still corrupt, there's still people living in fear in IDF camps, the education system is not sufficient and not many get to even go to school. All I'm saying is, the Ugandans need more than a group of young people getting together one night and putting up posters around their city of a man whose sitting in the jungle crying cause he's got no food. There is just no point. It is a distraction and a clever ploy.
If you really wanna help the Ugandans, there are trusted charities that send real aid and help to the people. You can get all the info on them here if you'd really like to donate:
