Who was the first twink in WoW?



No, I don't want a literal answer, but I thought about that first, and it got me thinking even more. I am about 99.99% sure he/she did not only twink for even low level PvP. I am also 99.99% sure that he/she made their twink to beat the sh!t out of leveling players for fun. And I am also, you guessed it, 99.99% sure that you did not make your very first twink to enjoy evenly matched low level PvP.



Reading so many defensive post against trolls say that most twinks just want to pvp at lower levels, and I just think that is bullshit. Sure, after you started twinking for the first time and it got boring rolling newbies, you wanted a bit of a challenge. Many people don't think that however, many people would still rather 2 shot a lowbie than have a fun, even fight.



Just putting this out there, for the people using it as a defense for twinking. If evenly matched low level pvp is really what we are after, then we do not need a defense. We wouldn't have destroyed lowbies in the first place, and we wouldn't have made our first twinks.



Sure there are some exceptions, and I understand that. I am also not against twinks in any way (well duh). I just find it irritating how some twinks speak for all of them, and when somebody wants to roll lowbies on their twink, hell let them.



Don't say they destroy the twinking community, because they do not. I always see the "let us play with our pixels the way we want" sort of thing, and from the same people "twinks who want to own noobs destroy the community." Always thought that was hypocritical, and just kind of not fair.



I don't expect you to care, really, just writing my thoughts down.



Don't lecture me about how it started in EQ and other games like that, because I know it did, and more than 3/4 of the twinks now never played EQ (I'm guessing).

Not sure what exactly you're trying to say but...twinking exists at all levels in WoW -- especially @ 80. The mindset of creating a twink is no different than one's desire to create a geared-out 80.
 
I don't really know either, I know twinking can be done at any level, in a way, but I was mostly addressing the 19s that I see. Have to admit, we are usually the ones guilty of this sort of thing.
 
It's impossible to know that answer considering how hypothetical it is. I can only speak for my own experience since that is the only truth I know. I did not begin twinking with the goal to bash lowbies. If that was so, my first twink would not have been a priest or paladin. I made it because I wanted to play in a competitive arena in which I didn't have to constantly be upgrading my gear after every content patch. Twinking doesn't have quite the same 'hamster wheel' mentality that end-game PvP does.



In short, the reason for twinking is much more complex than what I think you're giving it credit for. Many twink for the casual emphasis it radiates.
 
Yes, I completely understand that. I was just trying to say that a lot of people still twink to faceroll lowbies, and a lot of people would still like to do that. I know many twinks who are like you, myself included.



It isn't really a question though, I started out thinking I would be asking something, but then I sort of changed it when I finished it.



Basically getting people to think about the fact that there are many more reasons to twink than the reasons they do, and although they may not like it, we are all still a twink community.
 
The first question really can't have a true solid answer.



What would be considered twinking? There have been many stages, even long before we were called twinks, a even smaller minority just said "low level battlegrounders".



If you go by that jurisdiction, then i've been 'twinking' before there was even such an idea.



Slap some armor kits, dual fiery, and decent green/blues on a alt then jump into low level battles.



I know my main reason was because I enjoyed the lower balance lvls of 20-29 (21-30) back in the day, not having to worry about constant premades or raids to keep getting the best gear or work towards rank 14 honor titles.
 
there were low level twinks back before bgs when everyone pvped in hillsbrad so no. also twinks existed in other games before wow sometimes only for dueling so what you saying about how twinks "started" is wrong but prolly correct for a lot of twinks in wow

I started twinking w/ my 49 lock (now my main) and then I picked up my 19 rogue and have kept her since. I started twinking to kill the current twinks who would gang up and farm me. My rogue started over 2 yrs. ago w/ full defias and dual fierys, and now I'm [char=Draka]Crilicilyn[/char] lol. I started for for revenge and kept it up to "be the best" everyone has their own story IK alot of ppl have better more unique reasons too =)
 
Your opinion is without backing or any sort of evidence except for personal speculation. Perhaps you know some people who decided to twink for the shallow pleasure of facerolling noobs, but that does not mean that the majority did the same.



The idea behind twinking began long before WoW even came out, with its set-level battlegrounds. I learned about the craze in Diablo II, where people made competitive low-level chars for duels. They set up 'arenas' to duel with other 'twinks', and in games like these there wasn't even a way to 'bash noobs' even if you wanted to (unless you were a real loser.)
 
99.99% of you are also missing the point. I'm just saying that the first person who twinked, ever, more likely than not had the idea to beat everyone else. Plain and simple. I just don't like how it is used as a defense for us that we only do it for competitive low level pvp, when the origins of twinking, back in whatever-the-hell game it started, was to beat normal players.



Many players still do that, so saying we enjoy low level pvp is not a defense that covers all of us, because some simply enjoy beating normal players.

I have to take your side in this. many people IRl "twink" to "roll" lesser people, in sports athletes strive to become the best so they (in a metaphoric sense) twink to beat those that did'nt put in the same work they did (I'll just call them noobs to back the metaphore).Same with business...you can say that Wal-Mart, Mc Donalds, and Microsoft are the twinks of the business world, and hell yes they roll the other noobs to stay on top. You play the BG to win not to "evenly battle" the entire game. It does make the game more fun that way to have a more even match. When I decided to make my 1st twink , It was because i was getting my noob ass rolled all over WSG and it drove me nuts, and yes it was by twinks...lots of different twinks. That made me get determined to become the best and I think I did a damn good job at that.
 
Why not change up the %s you use, I mean, you can add more 9s in there and make your points even stronger!

yeah last time i made this argument i got 9000 people jumping on me saying "I PLAEY TWUNK 2 HAEV BALANCD FARE PEEVEPEE"

yeah, complete bullshit.
 
I started twinking after hitting 1800+ in season 2 & 3 as a feral druid, and frankly, find the arena system shit. New gear etc next season? How fucking lame...no ty. Gave up that ages ago. So I "started" twinking with the intention of very rarely upgrading my gear. And it went from there. So I spent pointless hours, on pointless achievements, for my pointless humour - which beats the hell outta stupid gear, which you got for free, the following season.
 
I can't help you get any closer to who or when the first wow twink was made or thought up, but twinking ain't a wow thing, I used to twink back when I played D2 LoD, the only difference was actually that we called it LLDs(low level duellers) I had a 49 orb soso, often raping 99 amazons, who had no pvp skills :] Kiting with orb, max hasted teleport and more dmg than the usual 99 soso, I pwned around in the "pvp" servers. It was a truely a great time. You used d2jsp(d2 lod trading community) to find the most tweaked items for our twinks, and having day-lasting 100man, 1v1,2v2 and 5v5 tourns :) For those who diden't know this, it might be an eye-opener to exactly how big and eternal twink gaming is.



Btw if anyone wanna hear more about what d2 lod 1.11 twinking was about, please don't hesitate to ask.

I like twinking because I think gearing a twink takes more creativity than gearing out a level 80. At the begining I enjoyed having a "finished" twink avoiding the endless grind for more gear that is so common at max level PvE or PvP. But with the introduction of new BoA's each patch almost, I can't avoid grinding for emblems.



I think I agree that the first twink was probably created because someone had the idea of rolling lowbies. Might have started when someone noticed that a particular gear piece or chant gave an advantage over their opponent and then evolved into a hobby or something to do when they got tired of higher level content. Pure speculation of course that applies to any MMO
 
Well the first twink that I can officially remember and that I idolized was a UD rogue named Ronsan on Lightning's Blade server. He was steam rollin us all the time...this was back when they first put in wsg. The only thing I ever wanted to do was beat this guy one on one so I twinked a rogue. Thus my adventure into the world of twinkin began. I will admit at the start i loved to beat down the scrubs but I also enjoyed those 1v1 fights with ronsan...and as tiem went by killing scrubs was less and less enjoyable

The first twink was the first person to level to 60 on the first PVP server. Once at 60, he then went to low level zones and ganked newbies.



People throw around many different reasons as to why we twink but the "core/primal" reason is a desire to "win".
