Ret actually uses crit more than strength, and people put int on prot for more mana meaning more healing, meaning more survivability. Prot has amazing utility, if you want to do damage then just go ret. Your whole concept is wrong, and you should fix that.

So putting in strength on a protadin is "damage" and stacking intellect is non damage? All im saying is maybe make your gear hybrid (int, stam and strength) works best.

You guys are great! I feel so welcome here already!
Cheesestring, I do recognise your name, it's very original and something i haven't forgotten! Best of luck to you when I see you in one of our premades! (I LOVE premading...)
Jsu8, I looked at your protadin and I've gotta say it looks pretty good! You already have AGM, which is something I've decided not to get due to recent Vashj level 85 activity *frowny face*. Not to condescend, but if you don't want to farm for the foreman's leggings, you could get the mighty chain pants from the blacksmith in Ashenvale as a solid placeholder. Oh! and I recognised his name too! Is it inspired from DragonQuest?
Last but not least, R Prime, I looked up the MoP changes just the other night and I noticed the same thing! Naturally, I'm starting to consider the sword again.
If anyone could show anyone else they know this thread and ask them about their preferences on the weapon and if worrying about MoP is a big deal yet, I would really appreciate it! I've appreciated everything thus far! Thanks again!

The parry from the sword is nice but the spell power from the hammer is better. Oh and I chose thaed's greaves because of the stam and crit.

As a protadin you would want strength and stam. Don't take Int gear unless they have good stam. Avencgers shield scales with attack power, which is obtained through strength. But the aurstone mace is better than skullforge reaver because the spell power is useful.

Useful as in your avengers shield, exorcism, and judgement scale with spell power. Going prot 60% of your strength is turned into spellpower where strength only increases the damage you do with crusader strike. It will make those words of glory and off heals stronger too so the aura stone hammer is def the best choice.

So the more strength you get the more spell power you get. Thanks for proving my point.

Proving your point? The reason to have intellect on a protadin is for a larger mana pool, meaning more healing (aka utility). Having more strength on a prot paladin isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be, you're not going to be performing a damage role anyway.

I'm not saying stack intellect in every slot, I'm saying that having int is better in several slots because of the bigger increase to spell power than just stacking strength and the larger mana pool.

Aren't you supposed to let the healer heal you while you crusader them like a truck? And yes im using a protadin hybrid build like you said.

Hmm...I am not looking to be a damage role. I rolled this toon for survivability. So then, the only thing I'm really missing is some int. The only things I can get right now with int are rings (Deep Fathom and Lorekeeper's). I guess I'll get those for a start. Any other int ideas are welcome.
A new quick question: is farming for the Silver Linked Footguards worth the 20 health?

In terms of intellect gear, I wouldn't worry too much about the rings. Stick with the two that you have already, since Deep Fathom and Lorekeeper's sacrifice stamina and add spirit (which is useless for prot, without holy's +combat regen baseline talents). Just play with what you have right now, and when you save up JP/Honor again after getting your weapon, start trying out the intellect BoAs (Pristine Lightforge Spaulders - Item - World of Warcraft, Mystical Vest of Elements - Item - World of Warcraft).

Silver Linked Footguards would be an upgrade, IMO. I can run you through the quick chest farming route I took for awhile on my shaman if you're interested in going for them.

im sure the SP gives more bonus then the str, depending on what str wep. i'd say go for mace

Go for the SP mace for sure. Spellpower is very useful for a prot pally, as the majority of the time in combat you're either healing or exo spamming, not really using your weapon with its tiny dps.

Looking at the op's paladin I'm now suggesting him to get skullforge reaver since he pretty much has all strength and stam gear. No point stacking int. Just let the healer heal you. And the melee with your weapon isnt bad at all. I often crit over 200 crusader strikes. Just go holy if you want to stack intellect gear. You should not go oom when you spam judgement. Like I said you already chose the evil presence shield instead of the leggings so why use int now?

I don't know what warsong you're playing, but pocket heals are not always a guarantee. Sure, you can spam judgement to gain back ~10 mana per second, but any 1v1 against a decent hunter will make you oom fast with only having 700ish mana.

Actually on my blood ef prot pally he was full strength and stam which gave him 106 strength unbuffed and 650 ish mana. It seemed to work against melee but not hunters. Yeah probally go holy if you want to beat hunters 1v1. All the prot paladin guides say to use strength and stam.

Im' definetly getting the hammer next. I'll follow it up with the inherited insignia > Pristine Lightforge Spaulders and Bloodsoaked Skullforge Reaver (since i may or may not use it for MoP, but I'll end up getting a lot of looms anyway).
Has anyone here heard of the quest Matis the Cruel? Any ideas on how to start it?

there is no point of getting the hammer. One can do fine with any intel/stam stick like mace of the order .What you need to get is skill...such as these games..did you know that if a paladin heals you ..you can also heal him back when he is OOM instead of hitting people with a 50 damage sword? You have 10k hks and played 243 BGs...and still havent figured out what a prot pally is for? but i understand using a brain in WoW is a very hard thing to do.

Why must it be two people carrying a worthless team every dam game i go into...its annoying to heal..and not recieve heals when there are 2x fail paladins standing in your LoS with full mana. Please spec your paladin to look somewhat like mine.

and..its a draenei quest.Google it.

Doesn't seem like you were healing pretty much anybody but yourself, which is kinda typical for you. Nobody asked you to grace them with your holy presence and carry them to the golden gates of Valhalla. If you don't like carrying them then there's the exit, Joe.

To be honest, I'd rather you not carry anybody at all.. because I'd rather you not play at all. But, hey, UNFORTUNATELY it's not up to me.

Btw, I couldn't help but notice the part where you coolly told the guy he had the ''IQ of a bick''. I assume that you meant brick. But there's only one problem, bricks don't have IQs. It would've worked if you said he had the IQ of a mouse, but it doesn't work when you tell him he has the IQ of a brick. Your insult is like everything else about you, half-assed.

im not looking to insult anyone. The point is in this game it doesnt take a genius to realize how its mechanics work.It doesnt take more than 1 click of a mouse to heal someone.
Its like i can take a 2vs10.Thats fine..the rest of the 8 morons can go for the flag. But when the others keep respawning and sending infinite reinfocements while my team is sipping cofee i go OOM shit gets hairy and it just pisses me off.

it doesnt take more than a minute to grab that flag and actually assist the two people holding off the whole team

Hmm...so, other than healing more, is there anything else I can do to benefit my team? And looking at your paladin, I can tell there is some gear that I just can't get anymore, but I'll definetly get what I can (Ghamoo-Ra's Band, Gold-Flecked Gloves etc). Can I ask how long it took you to get LFH, Magician's Mantle, and the Silver-Liked Footguards? Finally, it will be near impossible to even get one AGM with the 85 activity at guru lately. None of the usual 85's on the addon are available to come and handle the (opposing, level 85) hordies or the allies who just want 10 achievement points.
Oh, I have tried googling the quest I'm looking for already, but haven't had any luck on how to start it. I found that it was a drop from mobs in that area, and with a nice drop chance, but here I am, two days later, without that item. I don't think I'll stress out over that now that I've got some gear to grind for.
Only thing I can say is: there's no need to be so rude. I won't react to it. Your help is appreciated though!
