Entertaining but certainly not my style. Doesn't have the same energy/spirituality.
Although I must say Soul Khan put far more effort in his writings than the other fool.
Nope, true...period
You don't hold any weight in this topic. Especially if you're trying to argue rap or hiphop culture with me of all people.
considering you have has much weight in the naming as i do...and people that were there from the 80s and originated it called it hip hop, well i guess we see who is right. then it evolved to rap and now the two are pretty much synonymous. yeah, you can definitely call it either. just like you could refer to the culture as rap, especially lately.

I've hated the transition over the years to primarily written round by round battles rather than freestyle...But once I adapted it was fairly enjoyable. I have to say, it does make for entertaining bars.
The battle doesn't do QP justice, he has some really amazing material. But yo, don't stop at the battles! Soul khan makes AMAZING music:

Granted, Hip Hop in its original and true context is the culture of breaking, Djing, Mcing, and tagging among minorities. In particular African-Americans and Hispanics. And yes due to the homogenization of Ceo Moguls the difference between hip hop and Mcing has been blurred to think the hip hop is solely mcing. But when artist refer to rapping as Hip Hop i belieive they are trying to say that their rap is the embodiment of hip hop so it is beyond just rap.
But yes the shift from freestyling to writings is definately evident. Rap battles now-a-days are certainly flashy but lack the same energy. (And let's not mention their wordplay.)
But so you guys get a sense of what I'm talking about... here's Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme. Kind of long but it's worth the watch.
LMAO RAP DIDN'T ORIGINATE IN THE 80S MORON.
yea it did. in the 70s n such it was far too experimental and new, too undefined. 80s are when it took shape and got it going to what we have now
