This invasion has me on my knees. I can't even count the hours and chests at this point. It joys me to know junk-warforges have been fixed, and anyone who has at least put in effort will be rewarded. But for me, it's not enough.
My paladin, Ecopal, has been around since mid MoP. Now that may not seem like a while, but it dates back before that. You see, this paladin was a concept. An idea that resonates through all tinks alike. The strive for "Best in Slot". In late Cata, when I was getting the hang of f2p tinking, I made a prot paladin called Flores. I'd like to think I was somewhat recognizable in my bracket. I queued many times, and ran many flags. And I spent countless hours and nights trying to have the best gear available within my restrictions. I wanted to prove, along with many other f2p, that we could stand our ground against those who abused their privileges and gearing capability. I think it's obvious I am talking of the "p2p" (24s). It was a righteous crusade. A time in wow that played a pivotal factor in my tinking career. But at one point, I had realized my faults in gearing choices. So I gave up my beloved f2p, and forged a new character. This new toon was to imitate f2p. I had subscribed, and have stayed subscribed ever since. But I knew I did not want to sacrifice the same amount of time as I did with restrictions. So I used p2p privileges to accelerate my gearing process, and this time it was inflawed. Band of the skull crusher? Check! Precious Ribbon? Check! Then Wod came along, and to my surprise, I had made all the right choices.
Now we all know that things change. The f2p era was crumbling, and players had to adapt. Some stayed, but many had sacrificed their pride to continue having a good time in the bracket. Many say the veteran system fractured the f2p community. And I agree. But it was a path I took, so I embraced it. I still managed to stray from the temptation of creating a 29 (changed from 24). I saw vets as a middle ground. A mixture of p2p gear, and f2p ability availability (yikes, what a mouthful). I didn't want to have spells that a f2p didn't have access to, because a part of me had stayed in that community, and it still is.
My favored spec had later shifted from Protection (or frisbee-tosser as I would call it) to Retribution. This was a forced change, but I didn't mind it so much. And my gear was without a doubt, perfect. A few things here and there to pick up along the way, but it was smooth sailing. That is until the pre patch hit. It seemed fairly simple at first. Grab a set of invasion gear, and replace what you can later with BG container blues. I was optimistic, that is until the hotfix came in the middle of this month. I'm now panicking, and have laid down every waking hour to gear my characters. I am now focusing all of my effort and time on this one paladin.
You see, I tell myself I'm over-reacting, and it isn't that big of a deal if my weapon is 5ilvls below my goal. But a part of me cries out in desperation as the clock's second-hand ticks. This is because my paladin still embodies that ideal. And if I have spent all this time, just to have my efforts tarnished by a stroke of bad luck and waning time, the dream will have died. Sure, there is always a chance we may have access to better gear, but that does not deter my willingness to put in the work and prepare.
If the date is due, and I have not obtained "bis", my paladin will likely lie dormant until a new opportunity arises... If it ever arises...
I type this on behalf of all the stress many of you may have during these final hours, and wish you all good luck.
