How to gear a freak 19 Druid (classic edition)

DoByG

The BiS Llama
Yo! I was browsing through the website and just so it happened that I have found one of my old threads from 4 years ago: Doobyg's vet gear freak a.k.a. How to gear a druid. With classic BGs around the corner, I decided its time for a new edition. Again, it will be an Alliance oriented guide, but with not too many horde specific quest items, it won't be hard for a dedicated horde to swap those by himself.

I have learned from my mistake of posting screenshots of sets (that are now expired, which makes the old guide redundant) and spent some time linking all the items + links to complete sets (items AND enchants), at the first line of each set.

Note: Head (LFH, before that Green Tinted Goggles), Neck (Sentinel's Medallion), Trinket 1 (Insignia of the Alliance), Trinket 2 (AGM, before that Minor Recombobulator) all are a must for most of the sets by default. If the slot is skipped, there is no better option.

Let me know if you find something that can be improved on the sets!

I definitely wouldn't get this for a Feral set. You can't proc Glacial Stone while in Bear Form. I would go with Smite's Mighty Hammer with 22 Intellect or 15 Strength.
Are you sure about that? I need to test this (have the weapon on both my druids), but I am sure it used to work in tbc/wotlk. If was different in Vanila, you are right and I should put Smite's in this set.

Also I would get Draftsman Boots instead of Forest Leather Boots.
I cant get Draftsman Boots because they are rewarded from the Engeneer's Cloak quest, and the cloak is bis for FC and Bala, which are a priority for most druids. If you are gearing a feral specific druid tho, definitely go for them!

What's with the Glacial Stone and what is a 'bala' set?
Glacial Stone used to be BiS mele 2h for the proc, but it may not be the case if it is not procing in bear form in Classic. Need some more testing.

Bala set comes from the "Balance" spec playstyle a.k.a. caster DPS, even tho there is no actual difference between the spells you can get as a Bala / Resto speced druid in Classic.

Why do you prefer the scouting pants over darkweave, is the 30-something armor worth losing the int/spirit?

edit- in the balance set, I mean. And is it really "BiS" to use the 8 spirit over the darkweave for the "spirit" set? That's 7 int 4 stam for 2 spirit... im not playing either and appreciate the guide, just trying to learn here. Those just blow my mind.

Yea, no worries man, discussions are a great way to figure stuff out.

- Armour is really underrated stat. If you run a bigger amount of automated tests (what I Like to do), 1 armour is basically equal to around 2,8 - 2,9 hp vs mele (an 0 vs spells). So on avg, you can say each armour stat increases your survivability by 1,5 hp. the 38 armour difference between Scouting and Darkweave, results in 57 HP. You can also add the 10 HP from the 1 lost stamina, getting you close to 70 HP total loss. Because survivability is a key in Classic, I myself prefer the high survivability that 70 HP gives you, over the 30 mana that you can get from the 2 Int more that Darkweave has (especially having in mind the 1200+ mana pool you already have).

- In the Spirit set, I am going for max spirit only. It is not one to be used in actual gameplay, more of a set to max out mana regen in a short period of time. That's why I don't care about other stats there. Again, Spirit is not your best friend in Classic, so focusing on a balanced int and spirit set is not really worth the main stats loss.

Why not Talbar?
Not sure which exact set this comes from, as there are many sets that use the Feral Shoulder Pads, but because Talbar is BiS, it is usually enchanted with your main set's enchant (in most cases, the stam/dodge enchant for FC / survivability). Then, if you want to use the other OP shoulder enchants for max AP/SP/Healing etc, you either have to reenchant each time (I am not that hardcore), or use the second BiS item - Feral Shoulder Pads. Good thing is, they are farmable and you can get a pair of them for each of your sets.

Sorry i didnt read this part.

If druids could proc weapons or enchants in bear every feral would run crusader and it would be awesome. Sorry mate, never was a thing. I will say that it would finally make feral worth playing...

Yep, I have just checked and it looks like it can't proc in Classic. There are multiple threads for enchants and weapon effects working in feral forms in TBC tho, maybe it was added later to the game? Anyway, I will change this item in the sets, thanks for the heads up!

I actually haven't tested this in Classic, but I've heard that "Chance on Hit" means it can only proc from melee-related attacks and "Equip" means it can proc in animal forms. I need to test this though!

Good point!

Buut, Battlehealer's is BiS and pretty guaranteed, whereas Anglin' Boots are a very harsh mistress...

Again, it really depends what are you going for, but I think every druid should have a FC set no matter what, especially in the 19s. Engineer's Cloak is obviously way better for that than Battlehealer's. I personally would take Engineer's over Battlehealer's for a caster set as well (because of the mana and stam), but it depends if you are gearing to kill or to survive, so I can see a point for either. Sticking with the forest leather boots in the feral set for now.

2 spirit 9 healing vs 1 stam 2 int. You don't value healing at all on an FC?
