Help deciding on a class that is NOT a hunter?

Hey all,

Apologies if this post breaks any rules, the stickied discord link seemed kinda inactive. So I thought I'd make an account and ask the folks here!

I was bored at work when I remembered I had an old account linked to my main b.net that was used to get some RAF rewards with some of my IRL friends. That account is probably considered a "vet" account?

That aside, I wanted to start working on a 20 twink as a sort of a side project to do on the weekends and in between raid days. The guides that are stickied didn't seem to really touch on how classes & specs stack up against each other in BGs or arena. There's that one guy and his "undisputable" tier list but I get the sense that's not really a reliable person to take stock in. So I'd like some help deciding on the base I'll be using to dive into the world of 20s.

Just to get this out of the way - hunters are out. I don't wanna be *that* guy in random lowbie BGs playing hunter. It'll probably be just me doing solo random BGs with the occasional world pvp. Entirely solo. No premades or anything. Maybe something with some self sustain. Or at least kills people before they kill me.

The couple options I was considering were either shadow priest or a ret pally. Don't really know how they hold up in BGs, though. There's also warrior or mage but.. Again, I dunno what's strong and what's not so strong.

I'm open to ideas or suggestions. Thoughts? Experiences to share?

Sorry about the wall o' text - I got carried away there with my train of thought.

shadow priest
Very strong, a good option for dealing damage but can also support with shields and healing + fear. Deals great damage and is def one of the better specs.

Warlock is another one with good sustain and good damage with some useful utility.

Although at the end of the day I would pick what ever I think is the coolest instead of how strong they are.

Warrior or mage youre gonna rely on your team alot if you dont have a healer friend. Youre mainly gonna struggle with survival. Ret and Spriest are both better for that, the main problem gonna be the lack of mobility which isnt a big deal on some maps and on others it can be a bit annoying.

Play what you want to play, for solo queue I'd recommend a hybrid, Im biased for ranged classes because theyre better in every way and melee players are wrong. If you think Shadow priest is the coolest of those go shadow priest theyre very good.

Haha, great post! I must have missed this when I went looking for helpful stuff outside of the stickied stuff.

I already play a warlock at 60 so I was kind of looking for something a little different, but you raise a good point.

Yeah, you're right. I knew survival might be an issue with mages & warriors but I hadn't thought about the lack of mobility in spriest or ret pally. That's going to be annoying. But I guess that's what self heals are for.

shaman, specifically Rsham.

tons of utility. you can be really self-reliant as a soloq. Can do good damage if you prefer a more aggressive playstyle, but also a super capable healer. underrepresented imo

he lack of mobility in spriest or ret pally

Yeah ret is def faster then spriest with the charger ability they have, But I also think spriest makes up for it with the large amount of utility and damage they bring to the table.

This is a decent point as well, resto is pretty versatile. Could also go holy priest which can do some big damage as well.

Wether you play NA or EU, wether you play Horde or Alliance, you must know one thing, premades are a cancer, you can't let it spread.
As a solo player it is your responsibility to play something that can help fight this cancer. You don't want to play a hunter because they're frowned upon? Fine. But you must know that most of the ppl whining about hunters are either 1) premades who hate hunters bacause they ruin plans to stomp pickups, 2) disc/pallies who are basically just as OP as hunters but wont admit it, 3) hunters themselves who hate competition.
My advice is this, if you're good, play DISC, you can really make a difference, and if you're not good, well it doesn't matter.

You can get a lot deeper too. My ret is a Zandalari with the +5% movement speed passive. That with https://www.wowhead.com/item=13505/runeblade-of-baron-rivendare and the boot enchants and I'm zooming at a constant 125% movement speed. Pop on a https://www.wowhead.com/item=9394/horned-viking-helmet and you really don't feel too immobile imo. Same thing on my DK.

For what it's worth, elemental shaman and rogue are the most fun classes I've played this xpac.

I have a Twink of every class with some classes having gear for multiple specs. I've had the most fun on my Shadow Priest for a while now. I tried it randomly one night and had a blast and that was my new "main" twink. Really any of the other classes/specs are fun, but in the end pick what you have the most fun with.

If you play on NA and make a toon on Bleeding Hollow I can help hook you up with some gear and other mats you'll need

I can recommend windwalker, people sleep on that spec. Especially for solo content. Its true that your constant dps is average but your burst is out of this world, combine with stun you get guaranteed kill on a squishy target. And you get 2 rolls in case you misposition yourself/want to chase/just want to go in, kill, go out. In addition to that you have expel harm heal that if combined with pvp talent can heal you to full hp, chi wave that is a nice dmg/heal filler. Oh oh and... And... You can argue that vers is monk's best stat anyway so they dont suffer the dps lose of stacking it like some other classes would making them both tanky and bursty

This just sounds wrong.
I know that every class likes vers, but some classes do more than others. Dh gets more dmg from mastery/haste, but vers is needed to get some tankiness. Its a matter of a REALLY small numbers but its still there. I'm just trying to justify picking monk lol

I have been enjoying my DH a lot lately. As a solo queue player the mobility to be able to get to the right position across map is sick. I imagine I will enjoy it even more the more practice that I get at FCing.

Yea, I'm on NA. I may take you up on that offer - what faction? That wasn't mentioned.
Crap my bad, I thought I put that, but I'm Horde on Bleeding Hollow. If you have any gold on BH and are Alliance I could buy stuff and list it a very low (but specific) price and give you my AH toons name so that you'll know it's from me. But if you're Horde I can mail or trade
