The gold from Garrisons can pay your subs easily. They just have a long long ramp up time to have a proper set up.
In making gold in WoW there are several approaches. I almost never farm for mats or gear. I pay others to that for me. I don't have time for that nonsense. I just mark it up and post in the AH.
I use the tried and true stack 'em deep and sell 'em cheap method on my home server. I general post 1000's of auctions up day, twice a day. As opposed to posting a few very very expensive items every few days and praying for a sale. Over time, all that gold tricking in piles up. It takes me longer to empty my mail box than it does to actually post my auctions with TSM. And sometimes I will have all of my accounts emptying mail at the same time!!
