EU+US fishing contest. WTF?

So I tried it for the first time, kept hearing its easy, you only need to get to top 50. Well I got constantly ganked by hordes, barely got 20 fish, how do you guys do this???

Most did it before 7.2 when the fishing contest had no winner limit. You basicly had to catch 40 fish within 2 hours.
