F2P Name Change - A Guide

F2P - How to name change in 10 minutes!

Disclaimer: This is considered an exploit and abuse of in game mechanics. It is not, however, GM fraud, like many of my other exploits tend to be. It has been tested many times in succession and has never failed to get a rename in 10 minutes. Don't abuse it or it will be fixed very quickly. This method is only revealed because we do not have the option to get a paid name change. Tell Blizzard we want the option! Use this only as a last resort!

Step 1 - Delete your character.
Seriously, delete your character. I promise you that it will come back, with a name change.

Step 2 - Use a P2P account and make a character of the same name. Using a P2P account is important here. In the past it worked with F2P accounts, but now there is a high chance that GMs will instead flag the new character for a name change instead of your deleted one. It will not, however, EVER work if you create the character on the same account. You NEED access to 2 accounts.

Step 3 - Using your F2P account, open a ticket asking for the character to be restored. Use the word "stuck" at least once in the ticket. The word "stuck" forces tickets to get pushed in the front of the queue and answered within 10 minutes. There is a separate, nearly "instant" queue for players who get stuck and cannot be unstuck with the automated systems. Don't be obvious about it. Sneak it in there ("I don't want to be stuck rerolling a new toon!"). Unless you have used the stuck trick many times before, GMs won't bat an eyelash over it. If you have, they'll warn you. I've been warned against using it all the time, but never have I actually gotten any form of email or punishment for it. It works. In addition, remember that the GM will never decline a character restore. If you've played WoW for any decent amount of time you already know this.

Step 4 - Wait about 5 minutes. Your ticket should almost instantly go from x Days in queue to "Your ticket will be serviced soon." Get ready to talk to the GM. Remember, you are simply restoring a character. If you need to give details (which they never ask for), just tell them it was an accident and you meant to delete an alt on a different account or realm.

Step 5 - Get back on your F2P and rename your character. Once the conversation is over, and the GM is gone, hop back over to your F2P account. Your character will be restored and upon clicking him it will pop up a box asking for a new name. Voila! After renaming, feel free to delete the other character that you created on the P2P.

Nice guide, altho I would still consider this a GM exploit. I was wondering if perhaps you could trigger automatic rename by reporting players for name in-game (right-click player portrait and select: Report Player For: Name). You could create a bunch of trials and have them all report the same player in-game. I'm not sure if a real person reviews the name reports (probably not), or if this would even work, but could be interesting to try. I'm sure you could also auto-suspend (72hr) players to by mass reporting them for cheating!

Out of curiosity what does this term "GM exploit" that is being thrown around alot mean, and what are the consequences if you get caught doing a "GM exploit"?

It's simply socially engineering a GM into breaking the rules to do what you want. It's what I thrive on with my F2P character. I've done it dozens of times, and the only punishment I've EVER had was an informal warning (not a "Warning" email, just the GM face-to-face telling me to cut the shit), and the item that I exploited to get removed. If there's any proof that GM exploits are safe it would be me fucking with GMs on a daily basis and still having my account. But I still believe the risk is there so I advertise said risk.

I have not tested that since it's fairly new. It's worth a shot. I'm 90% sure the latter (auto-suspension) doesn't exist, and that each case is reviewed separately.

My friend used to have shaman naed negroshaman. He got reported and the name changed but he didn't choose it himself. They name it something similiar to the old name and in this case they named it necrolic.

That's really interesting. I have only heard of someone's name being changed automatically one time in my entire WoW career, and this was a few years ago.

Yeah a buddy of mine made a paladin called 'Powerass' about 4 years ago and one day he logged in and the name was changed to "Laugha", which to me is still one of the more amazing wow names in any case.

A couple things to remember with this, you have to delete all your BoAs first, but they are easy to get back with auto item restore, or a ticket if that's on CD. I tried it with a new character on a separate unlinked free account, and it did NOT work, so the P2P may be the key there. Just ask someone on your server, it can't be that hard to find someone, even if you only know how to communicate with the F2P addon. Another thing, you can only delete a character with empty mail. That means no brew of the month mail, no quest mail, no NPC mail from getting 50 pets etc. No annoying P2P morons that don't understand that you can't read their mail.

Personally, I would advise NOT to use the stuck thing. These undelete my character tickets always get answered in ten minutes anyway. If you want your BoAs back in a hurry though, and auto restore is on CD, feel free to use it for that.

i have tried to have my name flaged on a toon for rename but i dont believe the system is automatic. In a bg i was in on that tooon i asked everyone to flag my name i did this a few times in diff bgs and a total of about 20 people said they reported me .

bottom line the deleting method is probably the best.

hmm... I remember this one thread where someone had got the spectral wyvern transferred from a p2p to an f2p account, only to have a separate GM look into the matter later, and transfer the mount back to the p2p. It was briefly mentioned, in said thread, that the GM might actually read the forums here.

Better be careful when espousing how untouchable you've been lol.

That was my thread and that was me. That was also the only time anything of mine was ever removed after exploiting. That was the "worst case scenario" i discussed.

Deleted F2P character, created a lv 1 character with same name on same realm, went back to F2P account and made a ticket on my pally saying I accidently deleted my hunter when I was trying to delete my shammy and specifically said I didnt want to be stuck re-earning all my achieves I got on Lillhunter, 4 hours into ticket time and I get a random dc then when I log back in, Lillhunter (trial is back) and so I log on to my P2P and Lillhunter (lv 1 is gone) and never even got my ticket replied.

Idk if this is a fluke or smart GM or if this name change trick has already been learned about but did not work for me :/

Sounds like a Fluke to me. Try it again.

This works on P2P account as well.
P2P account does exact same thing F2P does in your guide, then you get a friend to reserve your old name on that server (on a P2P account), brothers/sisters won't work because they have the same last name.
I've done this a few times, automatic name changes are generally only after the same character of yours gets reported a few times (like, force name > another force name change > forced name change > blizz chooses).

Oh and, authenticators aren't required ;~)
