My 2 cents: Holy Paladin is the best F2P class to solo!
Let me break it down for you.
- Heavy Plate Armor: As one of only two healer classes capable of equipping heavy plate armor (the other being the Death Knight), this characteristic affords Holy Paladins superior protection compared to lighter armor types such as cloth, leather, or mail. In solo play, we often have to face multiple enemies or tougher opponents without support, the extra durability granted by plate armor can be a lifesaver. This allows us to withstand enemy assaults more effectively while questing or exploring solo, giving us time we need to heal and turn the tide of battle in our favor. As a Holy Paladin, I choose to wield a shield personally, prioritizing heightened defense and survivability in my endeavors (plus I get to use Shield of the Righteous).
- Unbelievable Mana Regeneration: Mana regeneration is crucial for any healing class, and Holy Paladins excel in this area. Our mana regeneration capabilities ensure that we can continuously cast spells without running out of resources quickly. This trait is particularly beneficial in extended fights in solo play (which is the case usually, as our damage outputs are relatively low) where running out of mana could mean a swift defeat. Our efficient mana management means we can keep healing ourselves and dealing damage without worrying about downtime, making solo adventures much smoother and more sustainable.
- Healing Utilities & Spells: Holy Paladins, even at mere level 20, boast a comprehensive arsenal of healing spells and utilities (such as Cleanse to remove all Poison, Disease, and Magic effects) that makes us a highly self-sufficient and formidable solo class. Pairing up spells that generate Holy Power (Judgement, Crusader Strike, Holy Shock, Hammer of Wrath) and spells that utilize Holy Power (Word of Glory, Shield of the Righteous) together with our rapid mana regeneration, ensure that we as Holy Paladins can ensure long fights and survive against odds that would otherwise overwhelm other classes. The skill rotation of the aforementioned spells is refreshingly simple and straightforward, and I rarely find myself needing to monitor my mana bar for extended periods.
- Emergency Life-Saving Spells: In dire situations, Holy Paladins have access to powerful emergency life-saving "Oh shit!" spells that can prevent us from falling in combat. Spells like Lay on Hands can instantly restore a significant portion of our health, acting as a last-minute lifeline during critical moments. Furthermore, Divine Shield grant temporary invulnerability, providing valuable seconds to reassess the situation or escape from danger if necessary. These spells come with long cooldowns (10mins and 5mins respectively) but knowing when and how to use these life-saving abilities strategically can make the difference between victory and defeat, especially in solo encounters where every decision counts.
- Emergency Run-Away Spell: Sometimes, the best strategy is to live to fight another day. Holy Paladins have an effective escape mechanism in the form of Divine Steed (2 charges available!), which allows us to quickly retreat to safety or reposition ourselves during intense encounters, ensuring we can survive even the most challenging scenarios. By combining Divine Steed with Divine Shield, which grants temporary immunity to all damage and harmful effects, this window of invulnerability enables us to swiftly escape danger, recover, and prepare to face the next challenge. This combination is invaluable when I find myself overwhelmed by enemies or in situations where retreat is the only viable option.
Overall, Holy Paladins possess a diverse toolkit of defensive, healing, and utility abilities that make us exceptionally well-suited for solo F2P gameplay. These traits ensure that we can enjoy a rich and rewarding solo experience, capable of overcoming challenges way above our actual level and thriving in the world of Azeroth with confidence, even within the level 20 cap.
