I'm not saying holy can't be played, but for pugs disc is just more useful is a high quantity of situations. Perhaps for offense in a premade, I'd like a holy priest. I think disc would be superior of D though. Perhaps dependent on comp, but 90% of the time

I agree with most of what you say, but I will play the devil's advocate and suggest that disc -can- be viable on offense.There is not always a lot of need for heals and the penance CD + Holy fire and mind blast can be used to add a little extra oomph during downtime. This would of course be at the sacrifice of chastise which has its own different uses. (Separating healers when efc is moving, interrupts, survivability etc)

That being said, I haven't premaded in a long time and that is potentially an unviable / riskier strategy if there is any heavy dps left on defense. It may be better to have a dedicated healer.



Disc is better for pugs, holy is probably better in a balanced comp/premade.



Anyway you look at it, You can make either spec -work- as it is largely dependent on your playstyle.

Secondly, while Disc is viable, that's it. Its only viable, Holy gives you more tools and thusly more utility at nearly no cost. Chastise is an amazing spell to be given to the priest class, as posted above, BE silence, Fear, Chast, is locks enemy casters out for quite a while, and just might be enough to prolong your life on D to get a cap.



Its almost as if hunters had the option between some sort of Arcane Missiles shot and Scatter. Oh and Scatter also comes with a 30% heal on a 2 min CD.



Which one would you chose?

  • Sorry, but on D if you're relying on chastise to provide your cc and your priest isn't using its full healing potential you're playing wrong.
  • Comparing the absolutely insane utility hunters can dish out while providing and maintaining God-like dps to a priest, who actually sacrifices a valuable trait to take up holy as talent is retarded.

Reflexes does hate me from the inside out; perhaps he'll come around one day. ^.^



I have to respectfully disagree with you suggesting that holy is definitively better than discipline.. Holy does have : Increased healing, desperate prayer AND chastise.. However I play better as disc for a reason and I don't think the specs are non-comparable in how effective they are.
 
Disc- Penance, shorter bubble cds, stronger bubbles, larger mana pool, more spell power.

Holy- superior flash heal, superior renew, three second stun, Desperate Prayer



Disc priests can do more burst damage than Arcane mages. Be smart, go Disc.
