Also, not sure if anyone's been there but near the Draenai starting zone (in the second area you go to by the shore - I'll get the name later), there is a giant swirling pool of water. I decided to jump into it. You'll be taken to a cinematic and then you'll be in a cave. After killing a mob or two you'll get a quest. Then you leave the area (the cave) and make your way back to the docks and you can turn in the quest.
It's a pretty cool place because it's not marked or anything like that. I literally just decided to jump in and see what happened.

Karazhan crypts are fun the first time you do it. It's also a very fun place if you bring several people. Just beware that there really isn't anything to do down there other than listen to creepy gates when you open them and run around. Watch out for the holes in the floor! The best way to get there is to throw on burgy's hat, go to ZG outside on the back corner of the panther lady building, mount up on a mammoth at the same time as you hit the item equip / DC bug keybind. If you time it right you'll log back in on the mount halfway through the wal (have your friends get on your mount at that time)l and be able to jump to the floor graphic inside the building, Then get on a flyer, fly through the hole in the ground and fly right to the crypts 
Also the smiley under Kara is pretty cool.
The buried Old God in Tirisfal Glades is awesome too. There's a Faerie dragon ceremony that occurs as well.
The whirlpool in darkshore grants an achievement called Demon Hunter for alliance after a brief quest.

Go to The Undercity and turn down music (if it is enabled) and turn up ambience to 100%. Put on headphones. Tab out and watch

then walk in the exact path that Arthas did. you will hear bells near the bell tower, hear people cheering. When you look down below the throne room you will see the rose pedals that citizens dropped on arthas. Go to the throne room and you will hear Arthas and Terenas speaking. Look on the ground in front of the throne and you will see the bloodstain left behind by Tereneas's crown after Arthas chopped off his head.
On the plateau in northwestern mulgore you will see critters running around with army helmets. Bunnies and Squirrels with hatchets and bone masks etc.
On a plateau east of Stormwind overlooking the bridge to the city there is a gnome with explosive sheep. Kill one and he gets pissed. Watch out! The sheep can explode and blow you off the ledge.
You can find the remains of Yogg-Saron in icecrown
The Sweeney Todd reference in the stormwind barber shop. Visit the top floor and look under the floor boards!
You can blink through the rocks in Orgrimmar and go under the city. There you can go to the fallen dev-team member's tomb or just fly around under the earth. Be warned through that liquids are not affected by terrain. What I mean is if you fly under a river, you will STILL BE UNDERWATER because the water goes straight through the world. This goes for lava as well. If you become dismounted for some reason, your best bet is to slowfall to the nearest body of water and mount up while swimming hundreds of feet below the world. You can also get into the underground loot room in the org bank through the world or merely stick your head up through the ground, say hello and then go back under
these are just a few of my favorites!

Its probably a whole hell of alot more than half. They work on future updates inside the game, tucked away from prying eyes. I dont think thats whats making you lag though. The partical effects and textures have steadly increased with each expac, If you're on an old comp consider upgrading. You can pick up a new one for like 200-300$ at wal mart that will play wow just fine, and other games.
