I was under the impression the PoD's at 1ppm but I haven't been able to find any really verifiable source for this, besides from playing around with them on 3.3 pservers.
You might want to do some testing yourself here (or rather, have a 39s do it for you).
What I do remember however is that the proc is scaling with your crit, and I remember reading that from a somewhat credible source.

The proc is a big part of it aswell, say on a warr u charge white hit crit + proc crit that's like 1k-1.2k done in the first second, even more so with pallies and shammies with WF and SoC, imagine if everything lined up for a shammy, auto hit x2 WFs and some procs your looking at 2k+ in 1 swing with some crits, not to mention PoD can double proc on 1 attack, seen in myself multiple times on my warrs back in the day. Can't deny PoD is hands down the best 2hder at 39

Came across this thread and thought some of the discussion was a little funny.
Just want to point that AP doesn´t scale "better" for slow weapons. Sure, if the weapon speed is twice as long, you will get double the benefit of attack power for 1 hit, but keep in mind that in that time, you will have hit 2 times with the faster weapon, so it equates to exactly the same increase in dps.

Its just useful for initial burst, jousting, and instants. Not that this should be underestimated, its extremely powerful

Unless you are out of range. Burst is generally more desirable for the simple fact that 6 yards = zero melee DPS.

So if you are only guaranteed in range for 1 attack, the strongest attack possible is "best". Speaking of speed/dmg.

Point being that only each individual attack is guaranteed, never the next or one after that.... two attacks split over time are easier healed thru than one attack of the same damage in an instant. 1 big crit is more dangerous than 2 small ones.

    Um.... no?

(edit- you seem to be stuck in the same rut as many that DPS matters... DPS is a PvE statistic. DAMAGE DONE matters, not damage potentially done. Understand the difference? Saying that if you have a weapon that attacks every 4 seconds for 400 and another that's every 2 seconds for 200, they are not "the same" in terms of value. PvP isn't 100% uptime.)

edit2- ok, I see what you seem to be saying. But the way you said it seems more to suggest the opposite than to agree...

It's not the same increase in DPS unless you can actually DO it - so yes, it does scale better for slow weapons, actually. More AP is more burst regardless of speed, and slower weapons offer more burst than faster weapons of equal "DPS".

No, i very much prefer slower weapons for exactly that, i just was pointing out that from a pure dps point hitting a standing target, AP isn´t better for slower weapons. I remember having trouble explaining this to my RL friend

Yeah, I think Strokes was operating under a mistaken impression for a while re. how instant attack damage was calculated pre-normalization (when weapon speed did, in fact, contribute to the damage formula).

This was exacerbated by the fact that I forgot Classic was on a normalized weapon speed patch when I first made the OP and had to edit it.
