1. Conditions for participation
To join the championship, you have to comply with the 3 following rules:
- You have to play with a 20 level character whose skills, stuffs, professions and other statistics from the game are the same than starter edition players. You also can participate with a veteran account but only if your character respects the same restrictions.
- You have to create a team of 3 players (you + 2 other players) ; they can be your friends or anyone, as long as the precedent rules are complied.
- You have to be available in the night from Friday, 26th August to Wednesday, 31th August.
2. Tournament progress
The Burning League is a tournament which works on war games principle. To join the final, the different teams fight each other in 3v3 via the tool which allows to launch arenas in game.
The characters who fight have to be identified in the list of participants in order both teams may know who they will fight. The D day, after arbitrator had checked the compliance with the rules, teams fight each other in a serie of rounds if there had equality since the two first. According to the planning given by the league table, the principle acts like one until they be eliminated by a new team or manage to reach the final.
2.1. Teams
(Example of the way to constitute a team)
- Servers
- Classes
- Combinations
Indeed, each class has its anti-class and its favorite class; for instance, if you are a outlaw rogue, it goes without saying that you will have the advantage on a survival hunter, but that on the other hand, you will be easily beaten by a restauration drood. Well, if we would authorize just one combination, you guess how the arena wargames' results would be known in advance.
2.2. League table
The league table that leads the official organization of the tournament is managed by the arbitrors. It takes an inventory of each team listed for the championship; it will be updated day per day by the arbitrors. The league table is formed by 4 phases:
- Phase 1: pools
Thing important to know: each game won (I call game a match made by 3 rounds if there had equality before or just 2 if there hadn't equality) brings one point to the winning team. On the other hand, each game lost gives no point to the losing team. In case of equality, the rounds go on, until the next one be won by one of both teams.
Both teams which earn the most points are qualified for the quarterfinals.
- Phase 2: quarterfinals
Unlike the first phase, the second one omits the pool's system. The quarterfinals use like this way the system of a simple game: 3 rounds if there had equality in the two first one, but only 2 rounds if one of both teams has won twice times since the start. The losing team qualifies meanwhile for the phase 3-2, that acts like a compensatory session.
- Phase 2: "the last chance"
There again, unlike the first phase, the last chance one doesn't use again the pool's system. Both teams will have to do like if they made a simple match: so, they fight together, and do 3 rounds if there had equality for the two first, but only 2 if one of them won two on a row.
The winning team wins meanwhile a place for the phase 3-2, where it will face the losing teams of the first and second quarterfinal. However, the losing team of the last chance is definitively eliminated.
- Phase 3: semifinals
For example, the first semifinal constitutes the phase 3-1. Unlike its neighbor the phase 3-2, it keeps the system of game in 3 rounds; the team which wins is this way the one which wins the 3 first rounds first (or 2 if there had'nt equality).
The second semifinal takes back meanwhile the pool's system. It enables to the losing team of the last chance to face both losing teams of the quarterfinals to get a place in final.
Indeed, the first teams which wins the most points deserves the right to fight the one which won the phase 3-1 (the first semifinal). The team which comes secondly in the pool of the phase 3-2 is automatically elected as the third best team of the table, since it comes just behind the two future teams which will face in final.
- Phase 4: final
Once the teams gathered, they'll wait the arbitrators' signal to start the fight (the signal will be given by a whistle). Each of them will take position on the edges of the arena, and, once the whistle given, they will enter in the cercle to face.
Unlike the precedent matchs, there will not be a system of 2 or 3 rounds, but 3 different games, whose the total will decide betwen the teams who will win. Like this, if the three or two first rounds have been won by the first team but that the following rounds have been won by the second team, the third game could select the winner.
Please understand that this system will not be based on the total of the rounds, but on the total of the games (reminder: a game is made by 3 rounds (or 2 rounds if there hadn't equality)). For example, it could be possible that a team wins more rounds than his concurrent, but wins despite this, since it has won more games than the ennemy).
Last, in the case were a high level or else would come to trouble the match / stir up trouble, the finalist teams will use the tool Arena wargames to avoid to be disturbed, but also to don't deform the score.
2.3. Arenas
To win the championship, each team will have to face another team in arena wargames. Here is the list of each arena:
- Arena 1: Nagrand Arena
This arena is located in Nagrand, in Outland. It's the simplest of all. Gathered in a cylindrical space, it is structured by four poles, which constitue the only way to avoid attacks. Inside it you could find crystals which enable to see the enemy, located in the segments of the wall.
- Arena 2: Blade's Edge Arena
Always located in Outland but this time in Blade's Edge Mountains, the circle of Blood arena is characterized by a bridge-like structure, that can as well as be joined by the ramps located in the corners than the middle ones. It has the advantage of being so an arena with two floors, that can help players to avoid the enemy by jumping from the bridge to the floor. In the same way as for the precedent arena, the Blade's Edge one has two cristals that appear on the sides.
- Arena 3: Ruins of Lordaeron
As the name suggests, the Ruins of Lordaeron are the rests of the old capital of the human realm of Lordaeron. The souls of the deads hunt the left side of the arena (showed by a cemetery), while a chancre lake located on the right side reminds the presence of the Forsaken. The presence of a grave in the middle of the area constitues the only way to take advantage of the altitude to avoid the ennemy attacks.
- Arena 4: Dalaran Sewers
Located in the Dalaran city, the town's sewers make interessant this arena, due to the waterfalls that come interacting with the players. Indeed, these ones may arrive in any moment in the middle of the area, and so projecting all players in every corner of the arena. In addition to this, the presence of crates on the sides of the platform enables to hide from the opponent.
- Arena 5: Gurubashi arena
Located in the Stranglethorn Vale in the Eastern Kingdoms, the Gurubashi arena will serve to make fight both teams which will be qualifed for the final. At the end of the struggle, the players from other teams could then come in the circle to fight each other, before recuperating and joining Norfendre for the final raid. Notice that in the case where teams would not manage to meet in inter-servers, the Gurubashi arena would be then used to allow the fight.
2.4. Planning
Now you have understood the basis of the setting of the tournament, here is a little preview on what you should do to candidate.
- Step 1: Submission of candidatures
In a first time, each team which desires to join the championship must to submit its candidature by publishing a message (on this topic) in which it announces the name and server of its members (each team can choose a team name if it wants). The last date to candidate is Thursday, 25 August at noon. After, the inscriptions are closed.
- Step 2: Follow-up of the availabilities
Once the team registered, arbitrators decide of the meeting by publishing in the after-noon of the 25th August the name or numero of the opponent team that it will have to face. The choice of meetings being calculated thanks to a random numbers generator, arbitrators could not cheat, don't worry). A date and an hour for the meeting will be then communicated on the topic "League table"; both teams will have to answer if they could be available at this time. If yes, they start to get ready by beginning to organize themselves; if not, they say they couldn't be available for the date or hour indicated and ask a new one, in which case arbitrators will answer. In any case, the teams have to communicate their answer very quickly because it's the only way to guarantee their place in the competition (by 26 August, tournament will start).
- Step3: Choice of the combination
Then, the teams must communicate the choice of their combination for the D Day. For example: "we, the team number one, we declare choising the combination n°1 of our group if the opponent team want to come with his second combination. But if, on the contrary, it wants to choice the first combi, we'll choose the second one of our group." If however both teams cannot come to any agreement with their opponent, the arbitrators will take a decision by using the random numbers generator (if the generator gives an even number, the first team will earn its request, but if it's an uneven number, it will be the 2nd one).
- Step4: Day of the meeting
The day of the meeting, the arbitrators group on their P2P characters the players lvl 20 who have to face. If one of the players is missing but has accepted to be remplaced by X player, this one takes his place. The teams choose then the arena in which they want to fight (reminder : either Nagrand Arena, Dalaran Sewers, Blade's Edge Arena or Ruins of Lordaeron). If teams fail to be agree, the arbitrators will decide by using once again the random numbers generator. Once the 3 rounds realized (or 2 if there hadn't equality), the 1rst point is given to the winning team. The first team that reachs 3 points wins the game (so you have to do 6 rounds minimum to win the game).
3. Rules
Here's a list of the rules you have to comply with when you will fight in arenas. Some of them have been already said above, but it's important you may have a complate summary in a little paragraph (I suggest you to look at this each time before you fight).

4. After the tournament
It is obvious that a lot of players, among the loosers, will be disappointed for not having won the competition. To avoid that, a big battle will be realized at Gurubashi arena in order to may offer what is a big passion for all the players of WoW: the fight. Once the battle (and the group photo that goes with) made, a raid will be launched in Norfendre.
4.1. Big fight
The big fight will start once both finalist teams would have ended their battle. Just before, a group photo will be proposed in order to keep a nice memory of the journey. Then, the arbitrators will try to make the most groups possible, in order everyone may see everyone (we will use Rashgarroth as group server; but in case of trouble, we'll group all the teams on italian servers (italian servers are the smaller populated of WoW).
Once the groups made, each (new) team will look at its opponent on the other side of the arena, before coming in the circle and start the show. Obviously, the winning team will be the one which could survive as long as possible (and this, we'll see it when other teams should wait two minutes before to rez). ALL the combinations such as alliances and treasons are authorized, so don't be surprised if your allies kill you after having killed the opponent team
4.2. Norfendre raid
The Norfendre raid will take place after the big fight. If the p2p counts will be there, everyone will be teleported in Dragonblight thanks to them (if they're not, everyone will take the ship in Stormwind or the Zeppelin in Orgrimmar).
- Boss #1: Hulking Jormungar
This NPC is not unique; other monsters like him patrol in the area. However, it is worth seeing, because it is strongest that the other boss we made a year ago (except the Fel Reaver).
- Boss #2: Reanimated Frost Wyrm
There again, a monster wich is not unique. Nevertheless, it patrols around the Jormungars, so it's practical to keep track of each other. A positive point with this NPC is that it is only able to launch one single special attack, while the Hulking Jormungar, not.
- Boss #3: Tukemuth
Unlike the other boss, that giant mammoth is unique, it's to say that we can find it only once in the area. Moreover, it is difficult to find, because it makes big trips. Therefore, we'll need to stay together in order to don't die too often because the proximity of others NPCs.
- Boss #4: Crystal Wyrm
With this 4th boss, needless to say we move into high gear. This one is located just behind the Wrathgate's mountains in the Crystalsong Forest, and is far strongest than the others. Needless to say we'll need to stay cautious.
- Boss #5: Bjorn Halgurdsson
5th and last boss of the evening. This nordic giant is located in eastern Utgarde Keep in Howling Fjord. From the same way for the Crysal Wyrm, players should be cautious, since it's a boss we didn't tried yet.
5. F.A.Q - Frequently Asked Questions
I haven't got the courage to read everything, so, can you make a summary?
Basically, the Burning League, it's a mixt between a tournament, a big fight to the Gurubashi arena and a raid on the Norfendre.
Okay, and in detail, what does that mean?
In detail, it means you have to comply with the rules and follow this topic in order to be included in the tournament.
Ok ok, and about the dates, when it begins?
The date to apply for the tournament starts now until the 26th at noon. Beyond noon, you couldn't more participate. Then, the arbitrators will give on Twitch the meetings panel at 3 P.M. Then, from 3 P.M until Saturday 27th before 5 P.M, teams will have to confirm their availability.
Next, from the 27th until the 31th, the tournament goes on, the 31th being the day of the final, but also the one of the big figth in Gurubashi arena and the Norfendre raid.
About the tournament, if two teams don't manage to see each other, how we do?
Two solutions: either the team leaders tag in Arena wargames until they find the opponent team, or they include a 4th player in their group, in order to see the other team and fight in Gurubashi arena.
What if a P2P comes in the arena to kill everyone during the big bight?
We give up the arena and go to Norfendre to avoid him.
What if the P2P who planned to teleport us in Norfendre are not there the day of the raid?
We take the ships or zeppelins in Stormwind & Orgrimmar and if nobody gets the fly to go until the Dragonblight, we do the journey by foot.
Why choose a pool system for the tournament?
Because thanks to it, the event lasts longer. Put 3 teams together enables thus to increase the time fighting, and so to don't disappoint the first team which will goes out.
By the way, why ban the use of two same class?
Because it enables to avoid a too much imbalance. For instance, a team of 3 different class could nothing do against a 3 rogues team. The goal of this rule is to prevent abuses.
Why the final will be located in Gurubashi arena?
Because in arena wargames, it's impossible to see two teams fighting against each other; we want that everybody may be there for the last one, which will be the big final.
Why choose teams of 3 players only?
Because it enables to make wargames (so it's more practical). Without this, we would have difficulty to make arena games in PvP.
Why choose 3 rounds only for each match?
Because in case of failure in the 1rst round, the 2nd team can still catch up via the two next one. The purpose is to allow both teams to fight longer.
Why prohibit a player to play in two different teams?
Because if his both teams win every time, he should be forced to fight himself one day, what cannot be realized.
What if there are too many teams?
We divide the tournament into two leagues: the two first teams which win fight in a new big final.
A last word, perhaps?
Yes. This project dates 4 years ago. At that time, I was trying with Archezorane@TempleNoir, Imfrenchboy@LesClairvoyants and Bellamor@TempleNoir to build a tournament similar to this one, in order to gather all F2P communities. Unfortunatly, it was abandoned, but thanks to this topic, it reborns today better than before.
So, I hope that people would be interested about this championship, and will try to participate. Also, I apologize if there are mistakes on this page (clearly there must be), I tried to do my best but it's not so easy when English is not our native language.
P.S: A new topic will be added to this one to take an inventory of all candidacy requests.
