I thought the same about people (like myself) getting knocked out then waiting for a while. But if we did it like that there would be 50 rounds, and 20 rounds took 2 hours so... and multiple duels at once could be ok but could get very confusing

Are you suggesting round robin format? That's a lot more time consuming than double elimination bracket.

We had 12 players which resulted in 22 total matches with our format. If you played round robin (everyone plays against everyone) with 12 players you get 66 total matches.
