It might be worth it to try 89. Playing with a ret/dk/rogue/hunter will still be viable.
And keep in mind once the new expansion comes out, there will likely be 88/89 gear available.
That, and the new item scaling system will make a HUGE difference aswell.

This is a great thread, but i still have some questions. Is there a list of all the items that scale up in BGs? Is it better to run BGs at 89? And are secondary stats still the best thing to gem nowadays with all these changes?

I know i'm very late!
But just want to say if you're still wondering which i doubt, it's NOT better to level 89 for ANYTHING now. Not BGs and you can't do arenas at 85+

i'm looking forward to 90 twinking though
as i understand it all gear will have a small chance to be extra powerful so making the best twink will take time which is what i love

Oil of Immolation - Item - World of Warcraft add
has a 30 yd range instead of 20 but you are going to needs lots of goldthorn. Been semi successful using it after a rogue saps but doesn't open up...so only good to find shitters, you wont find the better ones
and Extra pets, stolen from ownedcore
This is a very simple exploit, yet its borderline gamebreaking in pvp:
Get hold of two trinkets which summon combat guardians. For the video below I show you how
to get crate of kidnapped puppies and terracotta fragment. Then:
1) Equip the trinkets.
2) Enter a bg, You'll get an error message when you join.
3) Activate the trinket and summon the guardians.
4) Switch to your main dps trinket. The guardians should despawn, they won't
Have two combat guardian trinkets (major pvp dps boost)

Previously i only had the Terracotta Figurine and the Crate of Kidnapped Puppies.
Martar's Magnifying Glass - Item - World of Warcraft , Dynasty of Steel - Item - World of Warcraft , Seed of Tranquil Growth - Item - World of Warcraft work too.
Also, add Aqua Jewel - Item - World of Warcraft.
I think its superior to Aliskymirror+Etheral oil because you can still mount but still quite difficult to see.
Im trying to find some buffs that persist through zoning. but no luck.
Only one decent buff at 85, Earth Shield - Spell - World of Warcraft cast by Dragonmaw Shaman 6k-10k Heals. Other Earth shields cast by mobs are bugged and heal for 20-30 HP.

a compilation of ''being almost invisible with Aqua Jewel or Ethreal Oil'' , small with noggenfogger and with Spectral guise '' archmage Vargoth staff/totem of spirits'' and a few meatshields all combined and thrown into XP on bgs for a good measure
