70 twink gear could become "grandfathered" in Shadowlands

Still early days with the beta so this could all change.

If you check Wowhead, the level requirement for TBC items is changing to 27, so it's safe to assume level 70s will become level 27 after the squish. However, the level requirement to enter the TBC raids has been changed to level 30. That means you will need to be equivalent of level 80 (30) to get the TBC raid gear but you can still equip it on a level 70 (27) if you already have it.

So unless they fix this, make sure to get all the gear you might need if you plan to keep at twink at level 27 The same applies to level 60 (25) and 85 (32) twinks.

Ilvl 100 will be ilvl 35.

You won’t be able to wear it any of the stuff you’re talking about if they notice and decide to bump it up to the level required to enter.


In this post there’s a pic of a 9 with unequippable Wailing Caverns gear. But the gear is 10 req already on beta.

Of course if they don’t decide to fix, then yeah it would be a full GFd raid toon set.
You’d probably consider leveling to 39 from 37, once SL drops.



another alternative if you want an easy GFd toon, You farm BG crates and satchel gear on a 19, just throwing out there

The difference there is the character is lower level than the new gear requirement. According to Wowhead, the 70 gear will still be the appropriate level for a 70 to equip (27), you just won't be able to obtain it since you can't enter the level 30 raid.

I feel like this is an oversight. That would be absolutely outrageous and silly to make 70s 27 and then make raids require ~80 in SL

its not the ilvl that will be important .. many of the stats on the gear itself is changing in an unpredictable way, their reduction can be more or it can be less .. ultimately if the stats still retain a decent amount, then ignore the ilvl. i just went through some simple calculation on the 101 forum .. i prob have to change how i am collecting gears for all brackets in the next few months before SL goes live

Unless something changed, 80 raid gear was lowered to 30, which implies 79 goes to 29.

I level matters currently for instanced pve, so some of the Ilvl 100 pieces for 70 are currently some of the best in slot for raids and heroic dungeon encounters.

can someone bring the current lvl70 ilvl100 gears into SL beta ? cos Winterly brought some lvl101 boe gears into SL and it produces some interesting figures .. i am still waiting for my pass to get into beta

Definitely. But something as outrageous as this is might just slide by blizzard without them even caring unfortunately.

Yes, they are quite common, it’s basically the 7.3.5+ scaled versions of original epics. I have found many of them, and most of them are super useful and good
