5.4 enchancement scaling = damage reduction?

many of you may have seen this in other brackets, some may see this as a blessing as i did at first, but now i'm thinking that it will be a huge nerf.

it all comes down to what the scaling in and out of BGs they implement and how it will affect WOTLK gems, enchants, leg armors, etc that we use.

we may get scaled back to BC stats on our gear enchancements?

- All permanent item enhancements provided by Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring, and various vendors and quests are now able to be applied to items of any level. This means all enchantments can now be applied to heirloom items.

-- High level enhancements applied to items equipped by low level players have their power scaled down to be similar to enhancements intended for that level range.
-- Low level enhancements applied to items equipped by high level players do not grow further in power beyond their intended level range.

They don't mention anything about gems, so I don't think they'll downscale our WotLK gems at all.
As for enchants, the enchants that we use at level 70 require level 60, so I'm guessing our enchants won't get downscaled either.
I do think this will affect engineering tinkers (yay), tailoring enchants and leatherworking enchants. Possibly the ring enchants from enchanting as well.
But we'll have to wait and see. I'm not worried though.

Gems? Doubtful, given like the previous poster said; it isn't worded on the notes.

Enchantments I could see being 'nerfed'. Sure, we meet the requirements to enchant our gear with Wrath enchants; doesn't mean it was intended for those below 80 to use. So don't be surprised should you see your 10 stats to chest become 4 stats.

in BC we had +6 stats to chest, wotlk gave us 8 and 10, we could get rolled forward and back?

this new system may work like scaling in BGs where we are 74's we get let's say +8 stats and out of the BG we go to +6? so cheaping a higher enchant may still be best way to go.

yep now we can say its a hugh nerf

all enchantments and gems values have halved.

I believe my level just became cheaper, if being 71+ really does scale all of these up. Perhaps it won't be too bad in BGs considering everyone gets scaled to 74.

Looks like some things (including the tbc expertise enchants...) scaled down, other stuff didn't (10 stats is still 10 stats, 18 stam is still 18 stam). I still seem to have less stats (meaning secondaries) than I did before on some characters, despite them having doubled on the ptr from live...

That said, the damage 70s deal isn't massively related to gear anyway.

all though all players 70-74 are supposedly scaled to 74, on this patch they may consider 71+ as the threshold in WOTLK and may not half their gems/enchants, staying 70 will be hard

Stats on ptr are static at the moment. Even when i took gear off it did not change.

i test somethings on ptr and leveled my mage up to 71.

Tazik dmg doubled on 71 from 1k to 2k. I guess on lvl 74 you have the normal dmg value, same with synapssprings.

its hard to say whats true whats wrong, there are many tooltip bugs. The enchants on Staff, chest, legs, gloves and so on doubled after dinged to 71. But i got only 100 spellpower more and only 3% more crit. I wondering i got over 7% more haste, but i have no haste gems or enchants.

on lvl 70 the crit gems shows a value of 20 after dinged to 71 it shows 40. I guess its a bug normaly 10 and 20. Same thing with other gems.

One other new thing, PvP Power and Resi gems/enchants dont work anymore. Not on lvl 70 and not on lvl 71. Only values from gear works.

I checked some high lvl enchants for lvl 70, most of them are useless.

No, you don't.

Tinkers like synapse and tazik are Cataclysm, not Wrath; so they will not scale to their full number unless one levels to 81 and above. Same goes with any of Cata tinker you use down here at 70-74.

As for the 'bug' you mention, there is nothing wrong. This scaling isn't sophisticated, as soon as you hit 71, or get scaled to 74 in a Battleground i.e. Your enchants, gems, leg armours will scale right up to Wrath once more. And not to mention gems & enchants are currently bugged on PTR, so that should answer why your PvP Power or Resilience gems aren't working, same for your lack of spell-power gain.

PTR isn't giving any benefit from gems or enchants as far as I can see. Might've changed since I logged yesterday, but atm the gems aren't showing any stat changes on my character pane.

im not sure i guess with lvl 75 you get the full tinker stats. With lvl 75 you can skill proffessions to 525 (cata). Same with Tailor enchant on lvl 70 its a wotlk enchant but i get the full stats, because i have the full wotlk skill.

i guess enchants with professional depends scale with the professional skill (steping BC, Wotlk, Cata). And under the Border they scaling with level.

No, 20 is the right value. Gems scale down too on the PTR. 80 secondaries scale up (20 crit becomes 40 crit at 80, but at 70 is still 20)
