49 shadow priest, crit stacking?

so using arena wristguards, the AB belt, noxious shooter, and kindling staff. coupled with base crit, the 4% crit talent increase, and crit gained from intell, im guessing around a 15-18% chance to crit for shadow spells.

would this be worth a try or just stick with SP stacking?

I didn't do the maths but as you only get crits by stacking crit (as opposed to a boomkin which also gets haste and returned mana from crit) i don't think stacking *lots* of crit at the expense of SP would be a good idea.

But judge for yourself:

[item=20165]Defiler's Cloth Girdle[/item] instead of [item=17755]Satyrmane Sash[/item]

[item=10769]Glowing Eye of Mordresh[/item] instead of [item=4743]Pulsating Crystalline Shard[/item]

[item=10762]Robes of the Lich[/item] instead of [item=9415]Grimlok's Tribal Vestments[/item] [item=10021]Dreamweave Vest[/item]

[item=11750]Kindling Stave[/item] instead of [item=812]Glowing Brightwood Staff[/item]

Enchant Gloves - Blasting - Spell - World of Warcraft instead of Enchant Gloves - Major Spellpower - Spell - World of Warcraft

The [item=18709]Arena Wristguards[/item] in any case are inferior to [item=19597]Dryad's Wrist Bindings[/item]

I have thought about going for crit too, because critting dots and Mind Flay are sexy but it seems like a lot of sacrifice for about 5% more crit.

ya i was armory searching and found a guy using lich robes, ab belt, noxious wand, kindling staff, mordish eye and everything else normal stat/SP stacked and he had 10.2% crit, so with talents your mind blast and fray are at 14% and dots ticks are at 16%. Sacrificing other pieces would be to much of a stat loss i think. But im going to shoot for that, because dots ticking every couple of seconds and mindflay crit potential happens at every tick, your bound to get in a few crits per fight.

I'd take kindling over brightwood any day, regardless of crit stacking or not, it's definitely superior for shadow spec... You pose an interesting thought with the crit stacking, but I'd have to agree with the fact that all you're getting out of it is crits rather then returned mana or haste that other classes benefit from in their talents. If that weren't the case then I'd say it would be a more viable gear set. I guess just test both out and see how it works. From what I've heard from raiding priests, stactic SP > crit any day, but that's only in raiding. In a pvp situation I don't know how much it would differ. My friend had a 49 priest and as shadow he always SP stacked, he could do a ton of damage, but always went oom like a leaky faucet. I don't see how crit stacking would change that though.

I think survival right now is the key for the 49 bracket... except for maybe rogues, the glass cannon style of play is slowly getting factored out for longevity. I would find a nice balance of spellpower and stamina (for you probably around 3.0-3.5k health with fort).

For casters in this bracket, crit is just a bonus, we don't really have enough pieces to be able to really "stack" crit for it to be effective.

You won't have time to crit when I 3-shot you with my warr.

i just finished my priest and went to shadow yesterday, 2.9k health, 4k mana and 305 SP, with 12% crit on mindblast and 14% crit for dots/mind flay.

Im tearing things up, very fun. Using the AB crit belt and robes of lich then everything else is spellpower or stat based.

with zerg buff i got my mind flay ticks to crit for 500, its almost insta death.

niiice. sounds pretty awesome

Naw, 50% MS crit is pretty often.

agreeeeeed.

not like overpower doesnt crit just as high if not higher.

the year of the warrior is here!

Okay, I wanted to put this together for a holy crit build. I realize that the major loss in stats is pretty glaring. 70 mana regen lol.

chardev.org v6 ~ a World of Warcraft character planner

19% crit with mindblast, 21% w/dots huge loss in stats.

w/holy

the stats are so diminished I don't see this viable either though 20% crit does sound nice.

I picked stuff down to level 30 so a few item switches and you might come away with decent stats and crit but most the choices seem to par pretty bad with the crit alternatives.

well it looks pretty cool. but what about change two points from improved shadowform into focused mind?

is dmg from shadow tree bigger than holy or disco?

Disc and holy dps is pretty good but shadow is better i think, at least at 49.

And Focused Mind is nice and all but i think you'll want the pushback reduction more then some saved mana. The snare/root removal is really good, too.

I wouldnt take improved vampiric embrace over focussed mind.

Vampiric Embrace doesnt heal that much and your biggest issue as Shadow is mana, not heal or defensive.

And regarding spirit tab, i dont know, you need to get the killing blow. As twink that isnt so much the problem, but after you kill something you often will have to move or wait so you can sit down and drink anyway.

And i dont know how clever healer are at 49, but when priests or paladins spam dispelll your sw:p shadow affinity can also be very good.

This gear set is almost identical to what I build for my druid last night.

I am doing fine with about 4000 mana and i do get enough killing blows. But that's what talents are there for, to form your char to your liking and needs. I am only doing pug battlegrounds so maybe that explains it.
