40-49 q&a

Like Useabandage in the 39 bracket, if you have any questions for the 49 bracket, I will check back regularly to answer.

My 49 warlock: [char=Moonrunner]Taitiiya[/char]

I'm keeping her at 48 because I know the mining fix is coming soon, so I'd like some spare XP to be able to run around and mine. I also have a Drakestone of Shadow Wrath to farm, but it took me over 500 runs to get the Fiery Wrath one, so I may not have the XP to see that one to completion.

Yea, I ghosted my Timbermaw Rep grind to honored. I'm one of those guys who really likes to farm efficiently (I can get to Morphaz/Hazzas in 1 pull with my mage, makes for lightning fast 5 minute runs of ST). Although it takes approx. 3 minutes to run back from dying at ST (I've accidentally done that... a lot) so I guess 10ish minutes per ST run isn't too bad.

I'm having too much fun pvping anyway at 48, and I have the Drakestone of Healing (only a 4-5 damage difference), so it's not at the top of my priority list.

Sweet twink, I can't believe you got those pants, did you farm them?

And timbermaw exalted, how many hours of playtime did that take you?

I actually bought the pants (10,000g), Timbermaw Exalted wasn't too bad. I got about 3000 rep per half hour until honored... then I grinding about 300 feathers at level 45 to turn in for exalted, which including all of the quests wasn't bad at all, took about three hours until then. So honestly, if you're dedicated and don't mind doing it all in one sitting, it would take less than a day :)

I'd take my lock and save the 10k from the Spellshock Leggings. Wow, I feel so much better I don't have those now that I see our 49's are so similar in health/shadow DMG.

Honestly I would not build a Soulfire/destro lock for 49's.

It's awfully tempting to put up some big fat crit numbers that come from them but that's a 6 second cast time you're dealing with. A shammy will WTFPWN you inside of 4 seconds.

If you really want to build one find a 49 fire mage guide. That has to be easier to locate than a Soulfire build.

It's a 4 second cast time with destro talents. If you're free to just sit and nuke, the spec is amazing. Otherwise it's not. If you don't have a healer, you don't have enough CC to survive even two twinks hitting you. For gear, I can get over 400 fire damage unbuffed, although I'm still sitting at 48.

At 49 I calculate that I'll have 411 shadow damage and around that in fire as well. I'll log off in my fire gear sometime once I hit 49 (which may be a while, I'm still working on a lot of projects, and I want to make sure that I'll get there before the patch hits though)

Honestly the difference is very minute when you compare leggings. For me it was for perfection's sake.

As a 29 Survivalist Hunter, I prefer running interference. Unfortunately, with my lvl 29 Hunter "Sokolniki" on Blackwater Raiders I found out that this results in /tar macros and focus fire. When I fixed that problem with stamina, I was instead assaulted by mana draining... so I went with decent intellect and, oddly enough, stacked some spirit. This did the job well enough, living long enough under focus fire to get off a frost trap where I wanted to and landing a few wing clips on the sides. 3.0 changes only improved this, and Viper Aspect should allow me to put some emphasis back on dps away from int again.

Now, I want to extend this approach to the 49's bracket, and plan on grabbing Wyvern Sting and Resourcefulness rather than going into MM for Aimed Shot. I imagine that this approach will... again, result in focus fire if I'm at average bracket HP, and mana drains if I'm substantially higher than the average HP.

Any idea about what I should grab as far as gear is concerned to find a similar a similar balance between survivability, damage and manapool?

As of current, BM is arguably the strongest spec in this bracket. I am currently toying with a MM/Suv build with LnL and Aimshot on my 46 hunter, but BM thus far is the strongest spec (albeit the easiest one to play as well). If you can control your pet, you're pretty much good to go.

As for gear, most will come with some int. If you happen to need extra int, I'd recommend investing in a couple of Ribsplitters and placing 30 int on those. You probably won't need it however, Aspect of the Viper is very good, and a few shots will put you back at half mana in no time flat. I'll link some armories tonight, or you can take a gander at Loompah under "My twinks". She's not 49 and incomplete as of current.

Well, I am up for a challenge. I didn't achieve "Non-Huntard" status at 29 by taking any easy spec to play. I do miss autoshot not triggering the auto swing timer though.

you would not believe how much control/interference 3 pets with intimidation has on me :(

I think the biggest issue with Wyvern Sting is that it breaks on damage. Your pugs will break it time and time again... and it will piss you off royally. In a custom that may be different of course.

Intimidation does not break on damage. However its CC duration is not as long, but I feel that it's usually long enough to achieve whatever you need.
