29 ret soon to be dead?

so this new patch coming out looks like it is going to kill ret.

SOC proc damage is lowered by 40%, but increased rate to 100%. This will increase overall SOC damage if you didnt have the glyph but if u did it will drop. Not only that but by by burst say hello to consistant damage.



worst of all is the significant amount of damage lose to judgment of command.

alos judgments are now treated as melee attacks, dodge, dodge, parry, parry, block. they should have made it a spell.



hand of freedom is already down at its 6 second duration.



and all we get in return is a 1.5 second cast ranged extra melee swing.



hunters are gonna dodge and parry judge of justice and pwn pallys hard, rogues will dominate like they did 3.0





its looking pretty bad guys.
 
To look on the bright side pallys get exorcism back. This of course now comes with a 1.5 sec cast, but it looks like you may be able to bring out a shockadin with it. And hey for pallys there are always CDs.
 
If ret blows I'll just respec my paly to Holy and make it a healer... Along with my disc priest... Which will mean I'll most likely make a dps character again >.<
 
i'll keep playing -- i rolled my pally during 3.0 initially as holy, but respecced to ret when points were refunded for Dual Talents
 
Im hoping these changes don't gimp us to bad.



What im hoping for is a little more damage wih the addition of exorcism.

10% of base mana 30 yd range

1.5 cast 15 sec cooldown

Causes [173 + 0.15 * SPH + 0.15 * AP] to [195 + 0.15 * SPH + 0.15 * AP] Holy damage to a player enemy target. If the target is Undead or Demon, it will always critically hit.



So what im getting from this is a nuke that scales with ap, with a 1.5sec cast, and a 15sec CD.



Now im going off the gear I have on my Pally.

Self buffed ap, just might, no foods, no elixirs, no pots, no kings. Im looking at 442 ap.

I have 0 SPH.

So your looking at .15 * 442 = 66.3

Making Exo 239 - 261



Now Add the talent Sanctity of Battle ( 3points, increases Exo dmg by 15%)

And add the Glyph of Exo (Increases Exo dmg by 20%)

You have just added 35% more damage

Making it: 323 - 352



Now just for shits and giggles, lets add a Crusader proc (if your smart you'll time exo with this proc.)

The 100 STR increases your ap to 542

Making Exo: 254-276 (unglyphed/untalented)

And Talented/Glyphed: 343-378



Now imagine a crit? Not to shabby for a 15 sec CD.



PS. If my math is wrong lemme know, lol its still early.
 
I've played my 29 ret on the ptr and as long as you're not awful, rets are still amazing. They still do a lot of damage but there's just a lot less burst involved.

Have you glyphed and talented into Exo?



What kinda damage is it putting out?
 
I was trying to figure out a cycle for avg damage, but its hard to do given many different variables.



For a rotation if you were to



Concecrate

HoJ

Exo

Judge

Auto Swing



Your looking at quite a bit of damage just in the time of the HoJ

My pally isnt 29 yt, so im dont know what the average judge hits for.

Its pre Exo nerf, hes glyphed and spec'd into Exo.

So following the rot above with about 450 ap:

Concecrate per tick: [8 * (9 + 0.04 * SPH(0) + 0.04 * AP)(450)] = 162.72

Exo: 330

Judge: 250

Single melee: 300

So your looking at: 1368 dmg in 3 seconds if nothing crits.



Now factor in maybe an extra melee and 1-2 more seconds in Consecrate just to get out of it. Your lookin at another 625 dmg. Putting you at about 1993 dmg in 4-5 seconds total.
 
i guess i will have to see for myself, but i wonder how much damage loss there is when they say significant SOC judgment damage reduction.



plus you have to consider that your judgments are now basiclly inneffective vs rogues and if you get one that is dodged or parried by a hunter....just one, then your dead.



a 1.5 second cast also really hurts cause that is 1.5 seconds the other guy has to get out of melee range.



the shit better hit like a truck or you will not beat decent hunters, rogues, warriors, shamans.
 
In the video above it was hitting for nearly 700. I think his highest was 681.



The thing about rog is he as to be on you to do damage. And while he can evasion, you can consecrate, hoj, exo, freedom and kite till Evasion is off. If u have Pursuit of justice he cant catch you. If HoJ Misses, your prolly in trouble. If it does just duke it out, cause u wont out run him with poison on you. Or Free Action Potion =)



A hunter is the same thing. Freedom and hope u can catch him before it runs off. Save HoJ for disengage. But with wing clip, freeze trap, frost trap, and most likely a pet snare/root. Your pretty much borked if you dont kill him during hoj. =/

Again, a free action pot makes hunters pretty easy.

I hear pallies have this cool new ability that lets them cure poisons. Backstrafe + cleanse = no more rogue.



Faps basically win against anyone though. They're usually frowned upon in most bgs.



Edit: i do actually agree with you though, it hits like a truck, and is by far a BUFF TO RET PALLIES NOT A NERF. Ret pallies were already op, and this will make them even more op.
 
i have my 29 ret on PTR now....one thing mentioned in the 39 forum, not mentioned here is the Glyph of SoC has been changed. it nows restores 8% of your base mana everytime you seal/judge. depending on your gear, you will get more mana back than used.
 
Gear takes no part into how much mana you get back. It's BASE mana so you'll always get 54 mana back regardless of your gear.
 
Retadins are definitely still good, we just won't be able to WTFPWN people quite as quickly. I remember killing non-twink and glass cannon hunters and locks on my 29 retadin stupidly fast. Grenade/bomb, judge crit, white swing, SoC proc. Dead lmao.



I'm alright with the changes I suppose. Might play my warrior more often.
 
You're all crazy, rets are going to be MUCH BETTER. They are getting ranged burst, and with their new glyph they're basically getting inf mana. Did I mention RANGED BURST? They can deal with a slight melee dps nerf when they get a shiny new truck to fling at you from 30 yards away.

Mana's not a problem for me normally anyway. Keep in mind what's being done to Vindication, as well. I, too, am excited about Exorcism, though I see it mostly as a finisher for when hunters finally manage to get some distance from me. Combined with grenades, who knows how powerful rets might truly become.

According to everyone I talked to who has a ret pally on the ptr, they're far more powerful than they were.



In fact in all the arenas so far the best combo by far has been hunter ret. (the 2 best classes suprise suprise.
